Oceans and Seas » Atlantic November 5th 2015

Time change again last night, woke up early to clear skies and the sun beginning to rise on the horizon, yayy! Vibe club opens at 8am so I was there on the dot choosing our beds and enjoying the early morning warm breeze.Met Alex at the garden cafe for breakfast, health kick this morning, fruit for him, cereal for me.Spent the morning lazing in the sun with the ocean drifting by, my idea of heaven. The usual suspects from last year were also up there and the atmosphere was good with the bar staff singing and cracking jokes. Enjoyed a couple of virgin pina coladas (don't do daytime drinking) and read some magazines.Miss German 'titty' from the sauna yesterday appeared, blagged some bloke into moving her sunbed for her then proceeded to get the puppies out ... read more

Oceans and Seas November 4th 2015

Another cloudy day so went for early breakfast and headed to the spa. Found a couple of beds by the front looking out to sea and settled down to relax. Itchy feet Alex was straight in the pool enjoying the waves and the massage sprayer. While I was quite happy to relax and read a magazine he dragged me off to the sauna which wasn't too busy and was quite relaxing. Then in came a scowly looking German dude who managed to close the door so aggressively he ripped the seals off the side of the frame, thus negating any sauna effect and in fact locking us in the room. Thankfully another man manged to open the door and call the maintenance man who swiftly fixed it.All was calm until a weird looking German bird sauntered in, ... read more

Still cloudy! Went for breafast and then decided to ask for refunds on our Vibe passes as we had heard quite a few people had done this due to the weather. Guest services lady very obliging, in fact later that day we received a note to say all vibe passengers had been refunded but were still welcome to use the facility should the weather improve. Took the vibe refund money and some of Alex's casino winnings and booked day passes for the spa for the rest of the cruise, a really luxurious facility with amazing views from the comfy recliners, saunas, steam rooms, pool, hot tubs and a snow room! Now on a couple of ocassions people have mistaken Alex for someone else, during this cruise. I am beginning to think he is leading some kind ... read more

Oceans and Seas » Atlantic » Sargasso Sea November 2nd 2015

So far the weather has been pretty poor, grey days with wind and rain on some days, so have't been able to make use of our vibe passes. Today started a little brighter, we were rather confused with time changes so totally missed breakfast (not necessarily a bad thing). Had a game of basketball (i won again) the dec ded to brave the ropes course, now this is hard to explain, you have to actually see it but it is a huge intricate network of ropes, ladders, tightropes, balance beams, zip lines and allsorts of apparatus including a 'plank' which you walk out on over the sea, as well as a zipline which whizzes you out over the ocean. You are of course strapped into a harness for all of this but it is still pretty ... read more

Europe November 1st 2015

Starting to get a bit fooded out so had a light breakfast of cereal, while Alex went for his usual eggs benedict. Worked off breakfast with half hour shooting noops on the basketball court, I beat Alex 5-4 so was pleased about that! Wandered down to the future cruise desk to see what offers were on for next year (getting to be a habit!) With exercise on the agenda today we booked ourselves into the NCL fight klub class, a boxercise class this afternoon. Jake, the trainer put us through our paces and we followed up the class with a second class, this time a stretch class to hopefully avert any aching muscles tomorrow. We had an early show booked, El Gaucho, so were ready early to get to the theatre. The show was an amusing ... read more

Europe October 31st 2015

After another amazing night's sleep being rocked by the waves, woke up an turned on the navigation channel on the tv and was overwhelmed by a feeling of deja vus! The route was showing we were well off course and headed towards the Spanish mainland. Now coincidentally the same thing happened on our last cruise on the actual same day of the cruise, we diverted back towards Madeira for a sick passenger to be airlifted off the ship by the Portuguese navy. An alert came up on the tv this time to tell us that we would be joined by a Spanish navy helicopter to lift a sick person off the ship. We went up on the highest deck we could access to see the procedure. The conditions were very poor, it was raining heavily and ... read more

Europe October 30th 2015

As we headed out past the bay of Biscay, the seas became quite rough and there was a lot of movement on the ship. Our cabin is quite close to the front so we could feel every wave and swell. At times a little unnerving as we could hear all sorts of unusual noises from the ship, last year's transatlantic crossing was as smooth as crossing a lake so this was quite a new experience. Laying down in bed I felt fine but when I started to move around the cabin to get ready a wave of seasickness hit me. Severe turbulence on an aircraft doesn't bother me in the slightest in fact I actually enjoy it but passenger seat or back seat of car or coach and I am not the best traveller, people who ... read more

Europe » United Kingdom » England » Hampshire » Southampton October 29th 2015

Morning arrived at long last, up before the alarm, repacking done and taxi awaiting at 08.15. Now I know embarkation doesn't start until 12 noon and yes I know the hotel is a two minute taxi ride, but I've been waiting for this trip for a year and I am ready to go! Of course we were the first ones there and the folk who had been on the one night cruise had yet to disemabrk, so we sat patiently watching the departing passengers leave, quietly coveting their NCL Escape goodie bags. A few more people arrived, including Bruce, an American guy who Alex met in the elevator at the notel, so chatted to him and an older single gentleman who lived in the Bahamas. Eventually our cases were checked in and we were in group ... read more

Quite a few things on the agenda today so headed to the mall first thing, grabbed breakfast in M&S before heading off to Chichester to visit with Alex's 90-odd year old Grandad in his nursing home. Ron was delighted to see Alex and we wheeled him into a sunny spot in the garden and let them have a good catch up, it was an emotional moment as time goes by so quickly and we don't get over to the UK to visit so often, so it was a nice hour spent. After saying our goodbyes we headed back to Southampton and after some last minute purchases, grabbed some food to go and drove across to the dock and said hello to the beautiful Norwegian Escape, sat on the pier opposite and stared in awe of the ... read more

Up with the larks for last minute checking and packing and m re checking and packing. Our ride to the Airport arrived, in the form of gather in law Barry, big kisses ans hugs for the dogs and off we went. As is the norm, Alex was selected for a random security check while I was left to retrieve the numerous trays of coats shoes, bags and electronic devices! Flight to Madrid was on time and Alex was delighted to find a priest sitting over the aisle from us. Due more (I think) to the skills of the pilot rather than divine intervention we arrived in Madrid safely where we had an hour to kill the n the duty free shop before boarding our flight to London. Arrived on time at Heathrow and thankfully so did ... read more
