Last minute loose end tying in the office for Alex, while busied myself finished off the packing and....going to the gym! Kissed and cuddles the dogs, Indie threw up in the garden when she saw the suitcases going in the car, calmed her down and told her Grandma and Grandad would be coming to stay. Frazier was more concerned that he hadn't had any lunch! Decided to grab a snack for the journey, I got a salad and Alex ordered a cheese sandwich. Hit the road with me taking first driving shift. Imagine Alex's horror when he opened his sandwich to find it was Tuna!! Cue a quick stop at a service station bar to keep him happy with a ham and cheese bocadillo! Some heavy traffic en-route and my first shift of driving turned out ... read more

We all enjoyed a decent lie in and I began to tackle some packing as today was our last full day :-(. Packed up some beers, stopped en-route for snacks and spent a few hours out at Fort Myers beach, followed by a bit of shopping for Kat who wanted to buy gifts for the kids.A final stop at Publix for a few more items for dinner, the plan was to eat the remaining food and drink the remaining drink (there was plenty of both!)Stage two of packing didn't go too well and we ended up taking Jon's kind offer to ship a box of our stuff to us later in the week as it would no way all fit into our suitcases!Cooked up all the food and ate as much as we good, finished the ... read more

A beautiful day to go sailing. Up early and straight to the boat office to fill in the paperwork and get all the info, Jon had sailed boats many times so he was our captain for the day!Follwed the lady to the house where the boat was kept, had a walk around checking it over and the sailed along the canal out towards the gulf.Kat and I relaxed in the sun, gazing at the amazing houses which lined the waterways.Passed through the lock and out into the gulf. Headed out towards Sanibel island, Jon opened the throttle and we sped out into the open waters. Dropped anchor just off the island and swam off the boat in the clear, warm waters.Jon and Kat swam to shore while Alex and I cracked open beers and kept charge ... read more

A quiet day planned for today, went online to see if the local Walmart had Gro Pros in stock and ordered one for collection. Reserved a boat for tomorrow to go out for the day with Jon and Kat who were arriving later. Bought more food for the bbq.Jon and Kat arrived around 7pm and Jon was straight onto making Moscow Mules which went down well.Fired up the bbq and cooked a huge amount of steak, salad and salmon for me, a little too much wine was consumed, so had a quick dip in the pool before bed.... read more

A lovely hot sunny day so after breakfast by the pool, decided to go kayaking in the mangroves, don't think I've been in a kayak since I was on an awful adventure holiday with the school when I was 14 but happy to give it a go! Tried to get a Go Pro to film the experience but Target didn't have the model in stock. After lots of assurance by the kayak guy that there were no 'gators in the mangroves, we packed our phones in a dry bag, donned our life jackets and paddled out towards the gulf.We had chosen a tandem kayak so I was in the front and Alex behind. The gulf was fairly calm apart from when boats sped by causing a wake, less concerned for my own safety and more for the ... read more

A bit cloudy first thng so decided to put kayaking off until tomorrow and head to the mall. Had tea by the pool and hit the road for the half hour journey. We had been to the Miromar outlet mall before so knew where we were going. Spent the next few hours buying essentials and non-essentials and a few gifts for friends. Managed to grab a bite of lunch before round two. Some great bargains to be found especially in the Converse store, I could have bought half a dozen pairs but bearing baggage allowance in mind had to settle for two! When asked my name in two stores was treated to renditions of songs by Adele the theme started four hears ago in California and seems to continue each time I visit the US so ... read more

Got up early and enjoyed tea and breakfast by the pool before going out to explore the area. Looked at the suggestions on the sat nav for odeas where to go. First in the list. was a place called Bunche beach so thought we'd give it a try. Stopped into Target to pick up a few things we neded, socks for Alex and new Fitbit bracelet for me, decided to grab a take out lunch to eat on our travels. Bunche beach turned out to be a pretty location with shallow waters way out into the ocean on the edge of a natural park. The beach also had an interesting history as one of the first beaches black people were allowed to use before the days of racial equality. Decided this would be a good place ... read more

Woke at around 5am to the changing sounds of the ship as she slowed down and began the turn into port of Miami. Within minutes I was treated to one of my favourite views in the world, the Miami skyline, I just love it, it takes my breath away. Stood on the balcony gazing at the night time view of the city and watxhed as the ship docked, then went back to bed to try and get another hour of sleep. Managed about an hour then up and at it in the shower, final bits of packing then a last breakfast in the garden cafe, this time overlooking the millionaires houses of Miami south beach area. Disembarking was a bit hectic, one of the gangways was closed so there was a massive line but it actually ... read more

Oceans and Seas » Caribbean November 7th 2015

Hot hot hot, we are definitely in Carribean waters, strong breeze and hot sunshine, perfect for a day at Vibe. Grabbed the beds and grabbed breakfats, Alex had a few jobs to do at guest services etc so I lazed around watching the frequent cargo ships pass by, we are getting very close to land now. Captain said in his daily announcement that we would arrive in Miami around 4am the next morning in order for crew to clear US customs. Skipped lunch but Alex brought me back a bowl of raspberry crumble. Sat in the hot tub overlooking the sea with a great bunch of people, a loud crazy guy originally from Brazil but now runs a bar in Santa Barbara along with a group of girls and guys from Orlando, had a fun time ... read more

Another sunny day so early start at Vibe, grabbed the beds and then met Alex up at Garden Cafe. Spent a lazy day up there drinking cocktails (virgin!) and reading mags. Door still not working so watched the poor maintenance guys puzzling over it most of the day and watched a lady obsessed with keeping non members out and had to keep getting up and closing it. Evening was dress up night so put on our posh gear and headed to the Mojito bar, had good fun with Bong the bar man who cracks jokes continually, sampled more of the menu then went for dinner at Manhattan, scallop gratin to start while Alex had the slaw, then Shimp Permemtier for me and Lamb for Alex, another delicious meal with impeccable service. Ended the evening out at ... read more
