Geo: 31.1394, -7.92458If you had no Idea, to confirm there are mountains in Morocco, not just desert. The Atlas mountains pretty much spans the country from north to south. Jbel Toubkal is the highest peak in Northen Africa at roughly 4100m and it is possible to trek to the summit in two days.To get there you need a taxi. We got to the grand taxi station just after 7am and thought we were able to catch a share taxi, but an official said it was not possible and if we wanted to go straight away we had to pay 420 Dirhams which is like $45, as we need to get there early we had no option to take it. It seemed overpriced as petrol is very cheap in the country and it was only an hour ... read more

Geo: 31.6334, -7.9996My first step on to the continent of Africa is in the diverse country of Morocco. So close to mainland Europe, but a completely different culture and landscape. Morocco has it all, culture, cities, ocean, mountains, desert and large areas of bare rocky land where the odd town pops up.I was really excited to visiting Morocco, a little more of a challenge than Europe itself, and what a perfect way to end my time with Anna.We landed in Marrakech mid morning after sleeping at Gatwick airport due to a 6am flight. Waiting to go through border control was long and time consuming but soon we were on the bus toward the Medina and Jamaa El Fna. We had a few hotels in mind but they turned out to be pretty expensive so we walked ... read more

Geo: 46.547, 7.89267Yet another clear morning for trekking. This time it was going to be a longer day, so we prepared food and drinks and even borrowed some much needed sunscreen seeing as we were burnt from the previous day. Jeremy donned a pillow case from the hostel as a bandanna to protect his sunburnt forehead and I swapped my shorts for Jeremy's baggy pants as I was burnt on the back of the legs.We set off at 8am with the aim to reach the lake of Oberhornee. We headed down one valley and crossed the river before starting a long hike upwards on the other side for the better part of a few hours through the trees and up the hill past the tree line.On the other side of the valley was a magnificent view ... read more

Geo: 47.3719, 8.54036If you want to find where all that money in the Swiss bank accounts goes to, then Zurich is where it probably is. Zurich is all class and all money. Never have I seen such insane prices for watches just as a window display (120,000 Francs). Business men in their diamond encrusted suits walk the main street while walking past a oddly dressed man shouting obscenities and pulling the finger towards them. Among this is a beautiful city with beautiful buildings and a gorgeous green tinged lake to accompany. So I guess it comes in handy to have a friend who lives there. The unfortunate thing it was only for a night, but better than nothing. We caught the train from Interlaken to Zurich at the punishing time of 7am on a Sunday morning, to maximize ... read more

Geo: 46.547, 7.89267Switzerland is a country I have always wanted to go to and I finally have my chance. I planned to go in March but I didn't want to rush my trip, so I left it out. And now with a chance to see my brother for the second time in 2.5 years, we thought Switzerland was the best place to go for a weeks trip. But I can tell you now that 1 week in Switzerland is only a fraction of what it deserves, although time and definitely money pending. We both flew in to Basel. I flew from Gatwick and Jeremy from Dusseldorf. We were couchsurfing in the suburbs of Basel and seeing as it was late we picked a Mercedes Benz Taxi as it was easier to get to the house and because ... read more

Geo: 49.2764, -0.705529After an amazing week in Nord Pas De Calais, it was time to visit another region of France, A region with a lot of history and events and for some an important memorial site.Normandy!Known for the D-day invasion by American, British and Canadian troops on June 6th 1944, this area was once under German occupation. Another powerful sight that visualization and thought does not tip the scale of what happened here. Before exploring Normandy we went to a kite festival on the sea side town of Berck Sur Mer.Conditions were perfect; sunny and windy, and on a big beach meant for plenty of room and action.Kites littered the sky in all sorts of shapes, sizes and colours. We sat and enjoyed performances from groups, individuals and world champions. There was a competition to cut ... read more

Geo: 50.7697, 1.6116France is definitely one of those countries I love going back to. I love the food, the culture and the landscape. I am here again in Wimereux for a couple of weeks, with the intention of visiting Lille and Normandy. We arrived on the weekend to some nice sunny weather. We took a walk around the back of the town with great views of Wimereux town with the backdrop of the English Channel. Flowers and trees are in full bloom for the spring with the occasional yellow flower field used to make oil and with the unflattering name of "Rape seed" but visually stunning. We departed early for Lille the following day, a few hours on the train and we were greeted by a friend of whom we were staying with. Lille is a beautiful city, ... read more

Geo: 49.2991, 19.949Zakopane and the Tatra Mountains; A hidden little gem in the most southern part of Poland. A name most people might not have known or heard of. I didn't think that there were mountains in Poland until I saw some photos of a friends trip there and was immediately captivated and drawn to it. Upon planning my trip, this was a priority and it was a good thing that it was close to the beautiful city of Krakow and a $7 bus fare.I went on the Wednesday as I wanted to avoid the weekend rush. Although in the low season it probably didn't make too much of a difference. Well except that I had a whole hostel to myself for two days and nights.I stayed at the Stara Polana hostel. Close to the bus ... read more

Geo: 50.0553, 19.9274The horrible name of Auschwitz stirs emotions and reactions from all over the world, none more so than in Europe. It was a matter of debate when it came to doing this blog. I desperately want to respect everything but I also wanted to educate people. Most of the photos were taken outside and the more serious impacting photos were not included. But this blog also includes a lighter side from the Wielizcka Salt mine as this blog also promotes the areas around Krakow in Poland.I decided to join a tour for both of these places. These tours were pretty much the cheapest in town when using the map at the end of the free walking tours for a 10% discount at Cracow City Tours. It was possible to go to Auschwitz on my own but ... read more

Geo: 50.0553, 19.9274To simplify this blog, I can say that Krakow was amazing; A beautiful city, great people and a lovely culture. Done, Posted.Ok Then, I will go in to more detail.A country and a city with so much history, that going there for a few days doesn't do this great city any justice. But not only this city, but the areas around it also. These will be featured in upcoming blogs though. Situated in the Malopolska area lies Krakow, A town that has for the most part survived the war; A city occupied by Germans and where Jews where treated horribly; A town only kilometers away from the body shivering name of Auschwitz. Things have changed though and the city is now a thriving metropolis of students, tourists and beautiful buildings.I took the train from ... read more
