Geo: -34.4259, 150.9Yeah, Still in Wollongong, but about to leave, I've been in this area since the start of June but it feels so much longer. Staying at the Kieraleigh Backpackers has had it's ups and downs, but it's been great. It's a nice area. After checking out most of the area, I wanted to check out more of what the South Coast had to offer, although this blog only includes a little bit.Work plodded along nicely and I enjoyed the silent school grounds and empty classrooms for the two splendid weeks that are the school holidays. Luckily I only had to endure one day after school resumed before I found myself on the plane to Melbourne for the week to come.I flew to Melbourne for a much needed break, to surprise a friend on his birthday, ... read more

Geo: -34.4259, 150.9Well this has to be one of my favorite areas with some amazing lookouts everywhere you look.I don't think this area gets enough credit.I had never been to this area until now and had no idea what the landscape held and I love it.Wollongong, best described as a mini Newcastle, but I guess you have to spend time in and around Newcastle to say that. Both North and South of Sydney seem to be identical, but the south being smaller. After spending another long and extended period in Newcastle, it was time to hit up the next area, Illawarra. It didn't start off the best, sleeping in my car in the parking lot of the visitors centre for the first night, very cold and very uncomfortable! But I put it behind me and enjoyed the fresh highland ... read more

Geo: -32.9264, 151.781Well, I have been back for almost three months, So what have I been up to since?Well, after and amazing trip to India and Nepal and a week in Adelaide, it was time to hit the road again for work. I would return to Newcastle where I had spent 6 weeks previous to my overseas trip.I stayed in Newcastle for 10 days and then had work up north in Moree.Luisa and I drove up over the Easter long weekend and stayed in Port Maquarie, Coffs Harbour and Byron Bay in the back of my car. With no matress, it makes for a uncomfortable nights sleep.Luisa was loving the free coffee and buscuits at the drivier reviver stops. After dropping Luisa off in Byron Bay, I then enjoyed a 6hr drive west, inland to Moree to ... read more

Geo: -34.9258, 138.6I had only just been in Melbourne for two days after almost 4 months in India and Nepal and I had already arranged to go for a road trip to Adelaide. Accompanied by my close friend Ricarda who I met in Newcastle and Luisa who was working with Ricarda but had quit. Ricarda was going to be working at the Clipsal 500 set in the Adelaide City streets at her sausage selling job for four days, thus being the reason for the trip.We set off on the Tuesday around midday and planned to visit and stay at the Grampians. The weather was cloudy and rainy and after three hours we arrived into Halls Gap.We parked my car in one of the many available spots in the local caravan park with the intention to sleep in ... read more

Geo: 26.9847, 78.1019Naoki and myself woke at about 5:15am and went to the rooftop to view the sunrise for about an hour, it was a nice sunrise and we could see all of the boats on the river. I went back to sleep afterward and somehow managed to wake up at 9am to some loud music blaring throughout the whole guesthouse, but i was unsure of where it was coming from. Naoki was out of the room, so i got dressed and sussed out the situation. I went on to the roof top where i saw a whole bunch of people on the bottom level and the top level covered in colours and having a water fight while listening to loud Indian music. I had some good clothing on to start with and didn't want anything ... read more

Geo: 28.2636, 83.9724On the previous day, Radek had bought a small cooker. We used it in the morning to cook our own oats and boiled eggs. Despite Radeks intense travels he was still up for some mountain biking. So we hired two bikes, which weren't really proper mountain bikes but they had gears. We planned to do a mountain bike trail that was mentioned in the Lonely Planet which was a 60km round trip, up to Sarangkot hill, along the side of the hills and then 30km downhill back to Pokhara. The start was intense straight away, we had to climb to the top and I hopped off the bike quite a few times to push, where as Radek pushed himself. It turned out i wasn't on the lowest gear from the start so it became ... read more

Geo: 25.282, 82.9563I re-entered India through the Sonuli border. Chaos ensued as always. I got took a share jeep for the 2 and a half hour trip to Ghorakpur where i had to catch the train that night for Varanasi. As usual i was crammed in the back which can only really fit four people in but of course they had to squeeze 7 in. It was another uncomfortable trip. Some lady vomited out the side. We stopped for a bite to eat along the way which was good, my legs needed a stretch and my bum was becoming numb. Finally we reached the train station of Ghorakpur, but it was only 2pm and i had to wait till 11.15pm for my train, so i had some time to kill. One guy from my share taxi was a ... read more

Geo: 28.2636, 83.9724After the splendor that was Everest Base Camp, we still had to return to the big cities. Leaving behind clean fresh air, beautiful scenery and calm and soothing silence.I awoke at 5:30 and got some breakfast before making our way to the airport. We waited for the incoming flights from Kathmandu where we would catch the same planes on the return trip. There was a noticeable difference in the amount of people that hopped off the planes into Lukla. It seemed at least twice as many people. I knew what they were about to get themselves into. The flight back was nice, again beautiful views of the mountains and the valleys. The plane slowly descended into the mist of Kathmandu and soon the views and mountains were out of sight. I waited for the others who ... read more

Geo: 28.1204, 85.4626I woke up at 6:30, packed my bags and headed for breakfast. This was the final day. 7 Hours to Lukla from Namche. The day was perfect and Dustin was feeling good and full of energy. After breakfast we set off downhill for about an hour, laughing and joking, all in high spirits as we looked forward to getting to Lukla. We passed many other trekkers along the way who were heading up, testament to the weather and season changing into peak season. There were quite a few Koreans that do the trek but usually in a big group and decked head to toe in all the best gear. We stopped to sign away from the Sargarmatha National Park where they keep a tally of the months tourist figures and it was about 700ish for January ... read more

Geo: 28.1107, 85.6824During the night the snow had cleared, so it was good to know that we wouldn't be stuck in Tengbouche for the day. But again the night was cold. For some reason they put me in a room with three beds and there was a total of 15 trekkers plus the porters, guides and owners. It was a Saturday, but when you trek for a extended time, the day doesn't matter, it's all the same. I realized also that it was exactly 3 weeks till my flight home from Delhi and i kept thinking about my last week in India by going to Varanasi and Agra (Taj Mahal). What a way to end my massive trip.I got up, ate, semi cleaned myself and we were ready to hit the trail once again by 8am. Heading ... read more
