Geo: 40.7528, -73.9853So where were we? Oh that's right, I was talking about my trip to New York.So to continue the second part of this story...insert flash back moment here...I think it was a few days earlier when we were talking with Ross, a friend of Matt's, who was talking about going to a game, we asked him what game he was going to and it was a NBA Basketball game at Madison Square Garden, the New York Knicks vs Indiana Pacers. He told us that we might be able to get tickets, and if not there will be scalpers around. We thought it was very interesting opportunity to go and experience, so we did.We took our time in the morning as the game wasn't starting till 1pm. So we did a little research on little ... read more

Geo: 40.7528, -73.9853"Flight 890 to New York has been cancelled", I race to the United service desk with 100 other people behind me, only to be told about minutes later that no one was going to be on a flight to New York for the rest of today and that we should call the United call center and go back to where were staying. Well f**k, most of us have just endured a 13hr flight from Sydney, how does that work. In my case add an extra 8 hrs as I flew in from New Zealand. So with 1 hr sleep in 40 hours, a canceled flight to New York because of the huge snow storm, no accommodation and the fact I was meant to be meeting Anna and I had no way of contacting her, it ... read more

Geo: -45.0311, 168.663New Zealand for Christmas, not a bad place to be at this time of the year, although in saying that after one day at the parent's place in Christchurh we wanted to get out and about. Naturally Queenstown was the first option. We all flew in to Christchurch at different flights but on the same day, the prevoius week had been spent in Melbourne, catching up with some friends and attending my brothers graduation. It seems to be the way now where I visit Melbourne for 4 or 5 days and then I'm off again, off on another adventure, not to return for another 4 months, then the whole cycle repeats itself. It was the first time we got to see the new house in Christchurch, perched on the hills behind the city, beautufl views to the ... read more

Geo: 51.2365, -0.570305After an action packed 3 weeks of travel it was time to slow the pace down and settle into life as a university student. Well....kind of.I'm staying in the student accommodation here on campus at the University of Surrey in Guildford, just south of London. This is where Anna has to be for her course. We arrived here on the Saturday from Wimereux where we had to catch a ferry across the channel then a bus to London and another bus to Guildford. We settled in with nothing much than a bag full of clothes and two sleeping bags zipped together. Anna's stuff was to come the following week. So we had to borrow most kitchen utensils from her flat mates.Battersea court, Rich house, Level One, Room 10. Accompanied by 13 other students on ... read more

Geo: 51.2094, 3.22523"Ok then, just off to another country for the day, I'll be back in time for dinner". A phrase rarely uttered by an Australian. But in this case just going to Brugge (Or England) for the day is second nature for the Nord pas de Calais people. We left the rolling green hills of France to the flat, farmed countryside of Belgium, with only a small sign to confirm the change of country. No checkpoint, so no stamp on the passport. The language changes from the language of love to the harder toned and spoken Flemish, so we were both out of our depths. It was only a 1.5 hour trip and before we knew it we were standing in front of a statue with no map wondering which direction to take. Just head towards the ... read more

Geo: 50.7697, 1.6116I now find myself in the small town of Wimereux/Wimille, nestled along the north coast, I didn't realise how much history there is for this small town. But firstly I shouldn't forget about Lille. From our amazing three days in Paris we caught the train to Lille, close to the Belgium border. Anna's best friend Lucie came and met us at the train station and we walked to her apartment where we were going to be staying for three nights. We were pretty tired from a constant rate of travelling, so we were looking forward to relaxing for a few days. The first night we crammed in 5 people in to the tiny apartment with only two beds. The other three went out, but Anna and I were too tired. The following day we visited the main ... read more

Geo: 48.8566, 2.35097As I lay here on the grass just below the Eiffel Tower, blue sky with 5 or so jet streams constantly painting the sky, I can't help being so amazed at how beautiful Paris is.Three days was a good time to explore this wonderful city although we still didn't manage to see it all. Where to begin?Well we caught the Eurostar from London to Paris in the morning, it only took 2 hours and we found ourselves standing in front of a confusing map of the Paris Metro at the Gare Du Nord Train station.London and Paris underground metro's are quite similar. Paris metro has 25 different train lines to take you just about anywhere, labelled from A-E, 1-14 and some others chucked in the mix, it really isn't that confusing. Although in saying ... read more

Geo: 54.1509, -4.47928"So where are you from?", Australia I replied. “Wow, that's a long way to come to visit the Isle of Man, what made you come here?”. I explained my reason to an elderly man who is working at the Peel Castle. His reply; “So this is the kings royal table cloth”, pointing at the cleaverly constructed replica as if he hadn't payed any attention to what I was saying.Feeling rejected and unheard we proceeded to listen to him explain the use of the rest of the room as he repeated a few jokes. Later on we laughed at the situation while waiting for the main bus back to Douglas.Well if you haven't caught on, we are on the small island of the Isle of Man. Geo: 54.3568, -3.03676The Lake District is quite beautiful. The grass is so green, the air is fresh and for us the weather was perfect. We arrived to Windermere by train from Manchester. We only just managed to make the train with only a minute to spare due missing our original bus, the replacement bus into Manchester left us no margin for error. We caught a cab to our accommodation, the Compston House American style bed and breakfast. We were greeted kindly with many repeats of our names, probably to helpremember. The funny thing is I wouldn't know their names and it's been two days.Sue and Jerry (I finally remembered their names) make you feel comfortable, until you have breakfast where you walk out with your pants unzipped and barely able to move from the share quantity of ... read more

Geo: 51.5002, -0.126236I'm only 2 days into my trip and I am standing on the banks of the river Thames taking photos of Big Ben. It feels so surreal, but after an amazing day of seeing at the usual tourist spots, I can't stop being so amazed at what a fantastic city London is.It's almost 8 am as I passed through the gates at Heathrow looking a little worse for wear and with the knowledge of having to stay awake for the day. We caught the train and bus to Anna's aunties place. We grabbed a small selection of things for lunch and took a walk along the banks of the Thames from the outer suburbs perspective. It felt weird being in the UK from the beginning but felt great. I had passed out by 6pm and ... read more
