Blog Feb 12th I set the alarm last night but didn’t need it. I slept like a log for the first time in and woke up at 6 am feeling really refreshed and ready for the day. I had a shower and a leisurely coffee while reading my book of awakening. Breakfast was scheduled for 8:30 so after walking the dog I headed for the club house. There was a continental breakfast and lot of talking. We all have name tags and if you forge I set the alarm last night but didn’t need it. I slept like a log for the first time in months t to wear it you are given a hug and charged a quarter. So I paid my money from the day before and got another hug, so it was worth ... read more

Today started out cool (long sleeves for me) but warmed up beautifully. I didn't get out of bed until 8:30, slept right through breakfast. When I took Oscar for a walk I found out the group was going to tour a horse farm. My ears perked up and my feet started moving as I had 10 min to walk the dog, eat breakfast, grab jacket, water and money. We ended up going to a Gypsy Vanner Horse Farm that is world famous. We all know what gypsys are, but vanner had me stumped. Turns out it is the old English word for horse able to pull a wagon. So this is a farm for horses that pull gypsies wagons. The owner Dennis Thompson, researched for over 2 years and finally gained the confidence of the gypsies ... read more

I woke early, had coffee and a shower by 6:30am. The showers here are unbelievable. They have separate rooms with toilet, sink and shower beautifully maintained and cleaned. Great set-up. Oscar and I went for a walk as the sun rose higher increasing the heat. Then it was off to the community room for breakfast of waffles and sausage. It was a feist. At 9:40 we jumped in cars and headed off to the flee market. For the life of me I can't understand what people get all excited about with flee markets but there was great anticipation. I ended up getting produce, strawberries, broccoli, brussel sprouts, cantelope, tomatoes and sweet potatoes. My vegetable level is low. When I got home I cut up a tomato and ate it on the spot. Boy was it good. ... read more

I can't believe it's been a week since I left home. I spent last Fri and Sat night in Laurel, MD with my son and daughter in law. They are busy renovating the Phelps House in downtown Laurel for a B&B but right now it's distruction time. What an adventure! Sunday morning Feb 5th I left MD and drove to South Carolina on I 95. The traffic was light and I made good time and was able to get settled by the time the super bowl came on. The picture wasn't the greatest but the game sure was and my team won.. I arrived in Jacksonville on Monday afternoon and checked into the Flamingo Lake RV resort and met up with my friend John who is spending the winter here. The walk around the lake is ... read more

We had a really peaceful ride through the wilds of Western Pennsylvania. It's wonderful to see so many trees and healthy forests. We visited with Jeremy for a couple of hours then headed home through the worst rain storm I can remember driving through. I was very thankful to be in Pennelope and be higher off the wet roads, able to see better than being in a car. We were truly blessed to make it home safely and all was well with the house. Oscar and I traveled 5470 miles, got 14 mpg, and drove an average of 350 miles a day (about 6 hours). The trip was all I wanted it to be and more, a truly liberating and exhilerating experience. What a start to years of exploring! Next trip is in January 2012 to ... read more

I am in Ohio and 4 hours from Lock Haven where I will meet Jer for a visit tomorrow afternoon. It has been an effortless trip home so far except for rain and wind yesterday that made me struggle to keep Pennelope on the road. Today was just showers now and then and just light wind. It is clear here so Oscar and I got a really good walk in. See you soon..... read more

I am heading home as of yesterday. I dropped Denise off at the Denver Airport and headed home by way of Rt 26 to 80. I will take 80 all the way, with some slight deviations now and again. Should take 3 or 4 days to get there. No pictures today, I can't believe it, but I just drove at 75 mph and had to keep my eyes on the road. I did stop at a prarie museum but it would have taken at least 3 hrs to go through so I will so that on another trip west. I am actually in Shelby, Iowa and lost an hour today so I am a little behind with getting dinner and straightening the camper. Love to all... read more

We had a beautiful night sleep and woke to clear skies and crisp temperatures. We had coffee and a nice breakfast and as I readied the camper for travel, Dee took Oscar for his walk. She came back telling me about some deer close by so I grabbed the camera and off we went. I found 3 mule deer bucks laying down by a campsite and another little buck fighting with a bush. Pictures….. We left the campground and headed toward Bear Lake. There were several trails from this area so it is very popular. We hiked to a falls pictures…. Then took a bus back to the parking lot and went to Mary’s Lake and hiked around that. Pictures…It is so much more enjoyable to get out of the car and smell the air, and ... read more

We’re in the mountains and winter isn’t far away. The temp was 26 during the night and thank goodness we had a site with electric last night, the heater kept us from freezing to death. There is frost everywhere outside, painting a portrait of what is to come. Oscar had breakfast and went back to bed. We had a quick breakfast, packed up and headed off to Rocky Mt. Nat’l Park which was only 3 miles away. There was a stand of aspens begging to be captured with a camera. Pictures….. A side note about aspens; they are called a stand because they share the same roots. That is why they grow in clumps or groups. When there is a forest fire the trees are destroyed but the roots survive and shortly after they shoot up ... read more
