How did it get to be October?! It was a good night and I woke rested and eager for the day, the sun was coming out. I showered, walked the dog, disposed of garbage, etc. Left at 9:15 am. Off we went to Corby’s to get propane. It is the only place to get propane on this side of the park so I was really lucky it ran out yesterday. I filled up on gas too and the bill was $119.67. Stuff is REALLY expensive here. Headed north toward Meat Cove. It is the farthest point north and east in Nova Scotia and they had camping on a first come first served basis. It is 45 min on a dirt road so it was definitely an adventure. They didn‘t tell me the road was a mess. ... read more

Moose Day It was a dreary morning and so was my mood. If I have another rainy day I will scream! If that’s all that’s troubling me, how good life is. It was 9:25am before Oscar and I had our breakfast and took care of essentials. Then it was unplug, gather water in my containers and get on the road. Today we are heading for Cape Breton Island and yeh, the sun is coming out! We are on the Trans Canadian Hwy and it is 2 lanes cut as straight as it could be, the speed limit is 100 km, that’s about 65. Then I saw him, a huge, majestic, shinny black moose. He was just standing there about 50 yards off the road watching the crazy lady in the big white bus stop, back up, ... read more

Alma to Nova Scotia The rain was at it again this morning so we slept in a bit as it was so dark outside. Marg got her shower in first while I went and got a fresh cup of coffee courtesy of the campground. Pennelope is parked at Bay View Campground, one of two spots they have for travelers. The other 6 spots are seasonal so the campers stay there until the middle of October. There is also a 4 room motel and 4 chalets up the hill, they have the bay view. They provided us with firewood if we wanted a fire, cds or vcrs for movies and free coffee, tea or hot chocolate. They are a really nice couple and have a fairly simple operation. Breakfast was at the Octopus Garden (right Marg?) which ... read more

Rainy day The pitter patter of rain on the roof was soothing and we slept in til 8 am. I jumped up and said “It’s high tide, we have to go to town”. Then I checked the tide schedule and high tide was 12:08pm so we had lots of time for coffee/tea. There was a little break in the showers so Oscar went out very quickly. We listened to music, had coffee, played on the computer and plotted our day as it promised to get worse. The showers indoors got a very good rating this morning. We had breakfast in town then walked down to see the condition of the fishing fleet. It was ½ hour from high tide and the water was really high already. WE woke to a brilliant pink sky. Sunrise wasn’t for a while yet but the sky was anticipating it’s arrival. Marg and I both showered in the exceptional showers and were home for the sun rise . We didn’t have the Oh God sunrise of yesterday but it was wonderful. We broke camp, had breakfast and headed out for Alma by 8:55 am. Yesterday we met a woman from St.John’s who said how wonderful it was so we had to see it. Well, it was a full fledged city! We drove around a little then decided to head for Alma. An hour later we were there and marveling at the small, quaint, sea town. We checked into the rv park, left the van and headed for Cape Enrage. It was a beautiful drive over a mt ... read more

What a night! Marg woke with a start thinking there was a bear right outside her window. Then she thought someone was stealing our chairs. It turned out to be her pesky bunk mate trying to get a chair to star gaze. I woke early and just glanced out the window and saw sparkling diamonds everywhere. The moon had set and the clouds had parted leaving the stars in an incredibly dark sky. How could you just go back to bed! I was just about to get Marg when she came out saying “I want to experience it all”. We sat there for ½ an hour or so trying to identify some constellations, even seeing 4 shooting stars one of which lasted a long time and had a red firey tail. Both of us gasped at ... read more

Travel day I slept in! Can’t believe it but when I woke it was after 8am. It was very windy out but warm. Marg jumped up and went right to the showers because she had a cold one yesterday. Thought if she got there early it would be warm. It was great so she came back energized and ready to lend a hand. We prepared some things then decided to have our 2nd coffee/tea watching the wind and water and the seagulls fly by. Our last hoorah for this great Bar Harbor experience. We were off by 10:45. We traveled north and then east ending up on highway 9. The terrain changed to rolling hills then more elevation and the trees were changing more and some places were outstanding. We reached the border to Canada at ... read more

I woke this morning early after a fairly good night’s sleep, made coffee and put a warm fleece on to have my coffee outside. Marg and Oscar were still sleeping so I didn’t want to make too much noise. It was beautiful out, the sun had just risen so there was that magic light everywhere. We had a busy morning planned so I showered, got dressed and started moving things to our new site which was just the next one down. Marg and Oscar got up and helped and in no time we were moved and settled. Marg made us oatmeal for breakfast and we sat outside eating it enjoying the view. We left at 8:30 for a wagon ride near Jordon Pond which was about 45 min away. Oscar wasn’t too happy with the horses ... read more

Sunrise and Sunset It’s still dark but we’re going. Yes, sunrise on Cadillac Mt. Apparently when one is in Acadia you must do sunrise on the mt. We just dressed and were on the road by 5:45 A. M. The sky was getting brighter as we traveled along, would we make it! When we reached the summit the parking lot was almost full, it must be the thing to do. I took a picture of the people waiting to witness this every day event but somehow it felt special. There was a reverence about the crowd, an anticipation, of something special. And special it was. Many pictures. At 6:30am it was all over and we all went back to our everyday lives. We drove home to have a hearty oatmeal and walnut pancake breakfast then it ... read more
