Wash Day There was breakfast with the group this morning then a business meeting of the Florida Mid Lows. With all persons attending it was a formal meeting and they covered lots of topics. I put my $10 in to join the group so I know when the meetings are in the winter so I can join them whenever possible. This is a lively bunch and fun to be with. After breakfast Kat asked me what I was going to do for the rest of the morning and since I didn’t have anything planned she asked if I wanted to do wash. Well it so happened that I did have a big bag full so we loaded our stuff in the car and went across the street to the Laundromat. We each took 2 washers, got ... read more

Taking Flight Breakfast this morning at 8:30 so the least I could do is be there on time. Kat made a delicious casserole with bacon, eggs and cheese and all 25 of us really enjoyed it. I was signed up to go on a trip to a state park not far from here but I didn’t have a great night’s sleep and I have been tired so I thought I’d stay home, clean the inside of the camper and just take it easy. The day was hot and sunny so I put up the awning for shade and was inside when all of a sudden there was a gust of wind and the awning was flopping around like crazy. I went out and knew something was wrong. It turned out that the wind had bent the ... read more

Discovering Mt Dora The group was meeting for breakfast at 8 am, why I couldn’t tell you. So Oscar had an early walk, I had one cup and coffee and took my 2nd to the meeting room. There were all kinds of goodies, banana nut bread, bagels, coffee cake and buns. We all talked some more and I got more ideas for places to visit. I took Oscar for a longer walk and by then Kat and I were ready to go to see what Mt Dora had to offer. It was about a 20 min ride and we found a parking place on the street and starting exploring. There were blocks of little shops, some with home made crafts, some with antiques, little wall hanging and all kinds of interesting things. We walked all around ... read more

Flight Home The day was gorgeous but the mood was glum. Not quite that bad but sad anyway. Dee was going home today and I was going to miss my camping buddy and Oscar was going to be depressed for days. We tried to beat the cleaning people in the bathhouse but didn’t make it. So we puttered around camp a little, starting to pack up then when we saw the cart leave we bolted for the showers. And a glorious shower it was. We took Oscar for a walk and Dee did the dishes and packed while I put the outside things away, disconnected the water and closed the outside doors. We saw some people we met and said our good-byes to them. The next stop was the dump station where all went well and ... read more

Chill out day We rose about 7:45 and had wonderful coffee and GMA. It’s Tuesday and we have to move today to another campsite, same campground just another site. I booked this campground late and was lucky to find 2 nights in 1 site and one in another. The people that occupied the site didn’t leave, supposed to be out by 11 so Dee and I went to the beach with both vehicles. We did the dog beach so Oscar could come with us and the weather was wonderful so we donned our bathing suits, got water and chairs and settled on the dog beach. People here just let their dogs run all over, including your spot, towel, food and all. Some are rather rude, it’s a real free for all. So we settled at the ... read more

Chill out day When I opened my eyes this morning I looked out the big back window and saw the sunlight coming up over the water. It was an amazing sight. Picture We enjoyed coffee outside watching the birds and the changing light. This is a great campground, lots of wildlife, privacy, quiet and stars. Did I mention the restrooms? I had the best shower of my camping career this morning, hot, lot of water pressure and clean environment. Simple pleasures of life. Breakfast was my favorite food, especially camping, oatmeal, walnut pancakes. They were exceptionally good this time and filled us for the better part of the day. I asked Dee what she wanted to do and she said read my book for a little while. We got our chairs in the sun, bottle of ... read more

Ft Desoto County Park We woke to the alarm at 7:03 am, had coffee and proceeded to pack up the camper. I have been here for 2 weeks so there are things all over that need stowing. It wasn’t too long before the chairs were inside, the rug swept and snug in the bottom compartment. Some larger items found a home in the car and I was ready to start unplugging and saying good-bye. There were hugs for Ginnie, Joanne and Kat who were all leaving today also, everyone going someplace different. Dee and I are headed for Fort DeSoto County Park near St Petersburg. It is about a 2 hour drive through orange groves again then into the hustle and bustle of the big city. We left about 10:15 with no hassle hooking up the ... read more

Groundhog Day Phil predicted an early spring, I’m really lucky, I’ve got summer now. Temps in the 70’s. We were up bright and early today to attend the practice session of the Lipizzaner Stallions. I went last year so it made me eager to see them again. We drove 45 min through orange groves and cattle ranches to the farm in the middle of nowhere. They have 30 horses on the farm, a couple of rescues, but mostly stallions and breeding stock. They have no babies this year because of the economy and enough show stock. Maybe in a year or 2 they will start breeding again. It was a wonderful show, we all enjoyed. Our friend Joanne arrived on Fri for a visit and is staying with Ginnie for week. So there were 5 of ... read more

Company! My sister Denise came for a visit! I drove my little car to the Tampa airport yesterday and picked her up right on schedule. It was a beautiful trip through “old” Florida, cattle ranches, orange groves and phosphate mines. Dee loved seeing the sunshine and we rode most of the way home with the top down. The smells were incredible as they were picking some of the orange trees and others were in blossom. We made it back in time to have lunch, take Oscar for a quick walk and get to the meeting place for a tour of an animal sanctuary just across the highway from our campground. We were greeted by a black cat that acted as our tour guide and went with us on the whole trip. They have an elevated boardwalk ... read more

Can’t believe I haven’t posted for several days. They have just gone by so fast, just nice relaxing lazy days. I have walked in the campground, taken some pictures, and kept an eye on the river for native critters. Today I was rewarded with my first sighting of “Old Stumpy”. They kept saying there were 2 alligators in the river that sun themselves in the afternoon but I haven’t seen them, maybe it wasn’t warm enough. Today it reached 82 (sorry all you northerners) so I collected camera, lenses, tripod, sunglasses and hat and dragged Oscar to the river to see if we could get lucky. We did . Old Stumpy was on the opposite bank and it took me several minutes to spot him he was so well blended in to his surroundings. He even ... read more
