As in yesterday’s blog, I got up an hour earlier than I had to to get to the rv repair place. I guess I need a caretaker. We did get to have leisurely coffee but no breakfast, disconnected the electric, secured everything and headed out to repair the antenna wire. With the help of the gps we found the place and Oscar was allowed to come in and wait inside the showroom where it was warm. It was really chilly this morning. The guy got a ladder, got up to the roof, screwed the parts back together and we were in business. So now we can watch shows tonight and Dedie can watch the Oscars tomorrow night. Yeh! Then we found a McDonalds for breakfast because they have wifi. We got breakfast and an internet connection ... read more

The weather has become the major factor in what we do. It started out warm today but cloudy so we went for a walk to the dock, the gator lake and the beach. Dogs are not allowed on the beach so we took turns looking. The wind was really blowing and the surfers were out in force. Lots of waves but not much to ride. We walked back and poor Oscar was pooped. His ears were red dots on the underside and he just laid in the sand at the camper. After a while he was fine, but enjoyed being in his bed, he was really hot. Dee and I drove to the beach in the afternoon because we had a cooler and chairs and didn’t want to carry them that far. It was really windy ... read more

Blog 2-22 and 2-23 We were very lay back Tues 22rd, had coffee then went to check out the manatees and much to our surprise we saw 5 off the end dock. They didn’t come into the channel to the spring but they just hung out for quite a while. The vultures were extra bold and were entirely too close for our comfort. Don’t hold still too long! They are standing in the trees with their wings spread out, maybe trying to get all the sun they can as it is a little cool this morning. In the afternoon we went for a walk on the north trail and were very surprised by a family of wild pigs. There were black ones and red ones all squealing for their lives about 7 of them. It turned ... read more

I woke to a text message signal and thought it was from Dedie with a message she missed the plane. But it turned out to be a picture from Dave to show me the naked attic in their new -old house. They had a demolition party over the long weekend and got everything accomplished. Yeh crew!! After the usual coffee and meditation I was walking Oscar when someone told me there was a manatee and her baby in the spring. Well the poor dog got ushered back to the camper, I had my camera complete with telephoto and hurriedly made for the spring. She was just on her way out so I had to run to get a little ahead to get to the platform where I could capture their image. The current is very strong, ... read more

The temp was 52 inside the camper when I opened my eyes and Oscar was already in bed. That’s why I was so warm. What a great temp to sleep by. Same routine at a leisurely pace. Oscar and I walked in the woods for a while then headed back because it was a have-to day. I had to get the oil changed in the camper. Unhooking didn’t take long then it was stow all the stuff that would fly. We were on the road for town by 10:30. I found Walmart and after a little time passed we got registered for the necessary maintenance. I had to lock Oscar in the bathroom so he didn’t eat the guy driving the van into the service area. I went shopping and bought flip-flops, water, milk and nail ... read more

Despite the fact that I went to bed at 9:30 last night I slept til 7 this morning almost non-stop. Lots of hiking, that’s the key. No television or internet or friends so I have had to adjust. I laid in bed with my coffee reading my book of awakening and really listening to the lesson of the day. I have missed this introspective time. Oscar and I were out the door after breakfast to hike to the sink hole. It turns out to be several sink holes and a study in different elevations and the effect on the vegetation. In the swampy areas there are cypress trees with all their knees, dripping in Spanish moss. Then just an elevation change of 10 feet and there is a whole new world. There are live oaks, hickory, ... read more

Blog 02-18 A Tribute to George I must have been anticipating my trip today because I woke up at 5:30 and decided it was time to get the coffee going and have a shower. All that was accomplished by 8 am. You know how some days just go like a dream and others it seems like nothing works? Today was a struggle. On my walk with Oscar I went to Ginny’s and the vet had called her to say that George was worse and he took an x-ray and there was a large tumor. There was no choice but to end his suffering. I said good-bys to Ginny and Kat, they left to go to the vets. Most of my stuff was stowed by then, just had to unhook. The sewer line gave me fits. I ... read more

The weather was very warm so I was restless off and on all night. I finally got up at 7 had great coffee, read my book of awakening and showered by 8:30. While walking Oscar I stopped at Ginny’s and while I was there she got the morning report from the Dr about George. He is holding his own but no increase in red blood cells. This is the 4th or 5th Dr he has been to and they are all stumped. They have lots of ideas but nothing shows up on the tests. He is still in the hospital as I am writing this, hopefully there will be some good news tomorrow. One good thing, he did smile for the Dr. You haven’t lived til you see a Doberman grin at you and not mean ... read more

The days go by so quickly, I can’t remember what I did. Update on George. The transfusion helped but he is still in the hospital, 3rd day now. The DR doesn’t know what is causing his internal bleeding. So again we wait. I took Oscar on a long nature walk this morning before it got too hot. (sorry you northerners) . It was about 1 ½ miles through the jungle / woods. There were signs along the way as to what we were seeing, trees, snakes and plants. There was a beautiful snake on the path that Oscar missed completely which was good. It was light brown with 2 black strips from head to tail, about 2 ½ ft long. I asked somebody and they said it was a garter snake. This is wild country so ... read more

I slept like a log again last night. I keep mentioning it because I haven’t slept well since I broke my collar bone in Nov. The collar bone feels almost normal now, so it must be almost completely healed. No kayaking yet though. After walking Oscar briefly, I went to the office where they have wi-fi service. I wanted to get there before the crowd and slow service. I had so many e-mails it took me 2 hrs to go through them and then I posted my blog from the 13th and 14th. When I was leaving the office I found out that my friend Ginny was having trouble with George again and was going to the vet again, 2nd time in 2 days. So Kat went with her and I am staying to take care ... read more
