Acadia It seems 7 am is the wake up time. There was a decent breeze and the air smelled of fresh salt water. The tide is out so rocks are exposed with seaweed draping over them. A contrast of mustard yellow and black. After some morning chores Oscar was content to just lay in bed so I took my chair, coffee and binoculars and resumed my pose of last night. No peace this morning though. I was watching a sea gull walking over the rocks in search of breakfast. He was very protective of his territory and I witnessed one very violent encounter. Then he resumed his food hunt and went into a tidal pool, looking around. He seemed to be doing a little dance then looking down in the water. It finally dawned on me ... read more

Unity, Maine I woke to the sound of pitter patter on the roof and knew it was a good day to travel. I am told this is typical Maine weather, can be socked in for days. They promise clearing this afternoon, rain tonight and sunny Sunday afternoon. We’ll see. I showered, dressed, walked Oscar and broke camp and was able to leave at 8:45. As we traveled north on 95 there was a sign that said, “Look for moose on roadway”. If there is a moose on the road, don’t think you’d miss it. I am heading north to Unity to go to the Common Ground Fair. It is billed as the organic gardener’s heaven and all newest and latest technologies will be available. Thought it might be like a small county fair and I could ... read more

Moody Beach, Maine It’s 8 pm and I’m exhausted! Oscar is already buried somewhere in the blankets. We started out slowly, the weather was overcast and in the 40’s so who wants to go to the beach and freeze. We did the big loop in the campground, leisurely had breakfast , then secured Pennelope and took off for the visitors center that I had spotted yesterday. They had a couple of nature walks that I couldn’t pass up but first Oscar had to have a run on the beach. We went to Wells Beach that allows dogs this time of year and we found it very inviting. Parking was easy (picture). I got between the lines and only took 2 place. We walked for over an hour than I got a cup of coffee and my ... read more

When September arrives there seems to be a yearning to wonder. I didn’t follow the birds this year, I did the opposite. The coast of Maine and Nova Scotia has been calling me for a few years now so this is the year that it will happen, or not. My niece, Margie, was able to join me in the 3rd week of Sept so that determined the date of departure. I left Sept 20 at 9:15 am and headed for I 84. I continued on 84 into Mass. Then 495 connecting to 95. The roads were all interstates and in fine condition and I even lucked out with the lack of hectic traffic. I must digress a bit. When I left home, there were some trees just starting to change from green to a gray rust ... read more

This is a test entry. I'm leaving tomorrow for Maine and hope to get to Nova Scotia. I plan to stop where the spirit moves me and just explore, not a planned trip. More tomorrow.... read more

The morning was again cloudy but the “accurate” weatherman assured us all that it would be a beautiful day. He was right! I had a very relaxing morning, coffee outside and Oscar laying in the grass. John drove up with all the necessary equipment to give Penelope a bath, boy did she need it. He had special stuff to get the bugs off the front and I washed with a big long brush while he hosed it down. In no time we were done, only getting a little wet, and we sat and admired our handy work. We had a nice chat then John went back home and I took Oscar for his walk. He seems to be dragging, maybe he’s hot. I spent the afternoon on the beach here at the campground reading my book ... read more

Blog 3-1 What a great sleep, didn’t wake up til 8:30. It is overcast outside but promises to be a beautiful day with 70 degree temps. It is a lazy start to a relaxing day. I went shopping with John later in the morning to get some things at the rv store so while we were there we had to look at their inventory. You just never know when something fabulous comes in and you missed buying it. We looked at some trailers and their stock of Roadtrek motor homes. Roadtrek makes a camper similar to mine but a different company. Nothing worth buying so we went on to Walmart and Subway for lunch. Back at the campground it was time for my afternoon nap, short, walk the dog then sit outside and play on the ... read more

Blog 2-29 Sadie Hawkins Day It was set the alarm so I wake up early day. My hair has become an issue for me as the color has faded and the roots are long, time to fix it. I found a salon in Marianna, FL that uses the products my hair is used to so I made an appointment for 9:30. It is an hour and half drive so I have to leave by 7:45. I am heading to Jacksonville tonight so Marianna is on the way. It was sad saying good-bye to St Andrews in the sun, it is just a beautiful stretch of beach, I felt like I was in the islands. I headed north with the address in the gps on a 4 lane road that was 55 to 65 mph speed. It ... read more

North America » United States » Florida » Panama City Beach February 28th 2012

It was up early this morning as the wind has changed and it really is going to clear. Shower and coffee, grab breakfast and head for the dock. We have been wanting to go to Shell Island since we got here but the excursion boats only run on Tues and Thurs in the afternoon and since Dedie flies out today we have to do it in the morning. There is a rental right at the dock in the campground and we decided to brave it and rent a pontoon boat and drive ourselves to shell island, how hard can it be? We got to the dock at 9 and received our instructions on how to start the boat, how to pull the motor up in shallow water, how to navigate, and where to dock at the ... read more

2-26 and 2-27 The days are running together. This area has been under a cloud since Dee arrived on the 21st. All she wanted was a little sun on the beach but it is not to be. So we have been touring the area and getting to know Panama Beach real well. We visited the pier with all it’s beautiful shops, not the same old thing as home but unique ones. We have had wonderful meals at some restaurants along the way and seen beautiful sights. Dee had raw oysters and said they were the best she ever had. Then last night we found an Italian place whose owner was from Jersey and she had shrimp scampi and said it was the best she ever had. I had veal parmesan and it was one of the ... read more
