I wanted to do something here in New Mexico that seemed to fit the area. We traveled up into the Carson National Forest mountains and met a man named Stuart with his 7 beautiful Llamas. We had lunch with the Llamas. We hiked up the mountains with the Llamas carrying our stuff. Everyone loved the Llamas. They are so cute. Stuart, the guide, is a pure lover of nature, the outdoors and his Llamas. He saves abandoned and abused Llamas. He is super knowledgable about the mountains and the flora and fauna. We ate all kinds of leaves and berries along the trail. When we got to a river, we let our llamas ... read more

It was so nice to wake up at leisure and have my coffee with quiet mountain views. It rained a little last night. Paul and I stepped outside and there was this amazing smell. I am not sure if its the sage brush or this other plant they say opens it's pores to take in the rain and releases this amazing smell. Imagine stepping into one of those little shops that are filled with lavender and spice only this is a smell all around mixed with a fresh mountain air. It smells so good. You want to bottle it up. This morning we just vegged. Layed like broccoli. ... read more

We boogied out early to go to the Cheyenne zoo on the mountain side. Pretty unique...and tiring. The zoo is built into the side of the mountain so you have to climb hills to get to different vantage points and exhibits. I was still feeling light headed and climbing doesn't help your oxygen intake. Paul's hiccups never came back. This zoo lets you really get up close to the animals. The kids liked it. The giraffe's are always cool and these were super friendly. Or hungry. We love the Battlecreek Zoo for the African Encounter where you can feed the giraffes. This was similar in that you were free to hang ... read more

We decided to be adventurous by driving the scenic route into the mountains. Our only hesitation was time. 1 hour from Denver to Colorado Springs direct route. Scenic drive is a little over 4 hours. Our friends, the Rangel's suggested we drive west into Idaho Springs for pizza at Beau Joes and then drive the scenic route to Colorado Springs. This morning, I said, "we are doing it. I want to see more of Colorado." Everyone agreed and off we went with a John Denver album playing while driving down a "country road...Rocky Mountain High, Colorado."Idaho Springs is about 30 minutes from Denver and the cutest little town. There is a lot of fields and rolling hills in Kansas. Once again we missed some weather that was heading southeast out of colorado. We had nothing but sun and we are ok with that. I drove the majority to Denver so Paul could do a little work and rehearse a little for "This Wonderful Life." Mark your calendars for the day after Thanksgiving. I listened to my playlist for a couple hundred miles and marveled at my ability to sing songs from every genre from rap to folk from my youth to current day and remember all the words. It is an enormously beautiful cathedral. It may have been the longest mass we've been too. Paul looked at Elizabeth and said, " We may have to skip Denver because this mass is so long." It was nice though. I like taking them to different churches so they are comfortable someday going wherever they are if they want to go ... read more

What a great day. St. Louis is a nice city. I didn't know much about it. We saw as much as we could in one day. Whew. We are staying at the Residence Inn Downtown. It's a little better than average Marriott with two rooms and sleeps 6 with a kitchen. We didn't need the kitchen but we need the sleeping space. Free buffet breakfast and best of all a shuttle to anywhere in the city. How bout' that? The location of the hotel is good anyway but to not have to find parking is awesome. Geo: 42.5624, -83.1545Here I sit on the precipice of our third family adventure. Underwear, socks, movies, snacks, Twas the night before travel and all through house not a creature was helping. Not even my spouse (just kidding. it rhymes). .The socks were being laundered with care,In hopes that I finish the laundry in there. The children were nestled all snug in their beds,While visions of travel danced in their heads. And mamma was planning, and dad took a nap.I booked all the hotels and activities and crap. When out on the driveway there arose such a clatter,I ran right outside to see what was the matter.Away to the van I flew like a flash,Opened the garage, what made the crash.I didn't see anything, I still didn't know,I looked all around. Geo: 42.5624, -83.1545I have spent the last year mapping out our next road trip across the US. We are very excited once again. We will be traveling to some south/southwestern states. We will travel for 16 days in our beast, our conversion van. We have enjoyed our van over the past couple of years. It is quite comfortable and room. It is actually very easy to drive. This year, our new states are Tennesee, Arkansas, Oaklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Kansas and Missouri. Some states we will spend the night and have a meal while others we will find some local activities to give us a flavor for the state/city. I use tripadvisor for ideas, tips as well as reviews on activities. It has been very helpful. I also use Roadtrippers app to map our my ... read more
