Geo: 42.5459, -83.2155I have been spending the last couple of months planning, finalizing, searching and booking the last of the hotels, sites and activities we will be doing on our trip out west. I really enjoy searching for the perfect location to stay that fits the place and mood we are looking for. It's a challenge for me. Recently, I booked our white water rafting and horse back riding trip in Yellowstone. Doesn't that sound perfect in Yellowstone? We will be there for 5 days. I have been using Roadtrippers app to find unique sites to see along our route. Omaha and Iowa are at the end of our trip. I have no idea what to do in those states. I do know there is going to be a lot of driving for sure. Movie marathon? ... read more

Geo: 41.0782, -80.7997 On our final drive home, Paul and I had a debriefing to decide what worked, what didn't and what we would and wouldn't do next time. I think that is very important for successful journeys. We pretty much agreed in the same areas. I had created books for the kids with each state and activities about each state. It worked great. I made multiple activity pages for each state just in case but realized they liked 2 or 3 in particular. Next time I will just make those. When they finished with mapping activities and learning more about the state using their books, I let them watch the movie about that state. Those were great. 20/25 minutes about each state. It is called The States by The History Channel. The kids enjoyed them ... read more

Geo: 40.4384, -79.9976Weather 73 cloudyWe are on our way home. We have spent the last couple of days of our trip with some peeps we love, the Ghilanis. Nice place to relax, play and laugh. I love listening to Pat, Barb and Paul talk. They crack me up. We spent two nights there. A couple of days ago, we went to Hershey. PA. It was a smart move to go early on Friday instead of Thursday, our first plan. We got there around 9:30 AM. Not too crowded. We saw the 4D movie first. It was cute. The Hershey kiss in the movie actually communicates with the audience including wishing me a Happy Birthday. She asked where I was in the audience and wouldn't continue until I acknowledged her. Pretty cute. Obviously someone is able to ... read more

Geo: 40.2598, -76.8822Weather 77 and glorious again! Today we traveled from MD to Harrisburg. We were warned that Hershey gets really crowded and there was no way to get there in a reasonable time being that it was an hour and a half away. We decided that Friday morning would be easier. Instead, we detoured through Lancaster, PA to see some Amish country. We stopped at the visitor center to find out how to go about seeing how the Amish live. It is rather strange to be pointing out people just because of their beliefs and how they dress and do things. It interests me. I watch some of the Amish shows on tv and find it interesting that they are trying to keep their beliefs and lifestyle going amidst the "English" culture that is truly ... read more

Geo: 39.2926, -76.7421Weather 75 and sunny Not too thrilled with Philly. I don't know if we just went a few blocks the wrong way or what but quite frankly, it's not my fave. We stayed in a very nice hotel and it has some nice sites but it's not comfortable walking around to far in different directions. Lots of homeless and riff-raff. Our waiter told us there are pockets of not too safe. It was more of a drive-by for us before someone did a drive-by to us. Exaggerating. By suggestion from some girls in New York, we went to Reading Terminal Market for breakfast. Really cool market. paul and i love Pike Street Market in Seattle. its kind of like that. we had crepes (dessert) for breakfast. We bought some fruit for the road and ... read more

Geo: 40.7571, -73.9702Battery Park to Central ParkWeather 81 spotty rain in AM and warm and sunny PM We took the subway downtown to the Statue of Liberty ferries. We got a later start than we thought and decided the trip on the ferry would interfere with the 911 memorial reservation we had. We decided to maybe do the Liberty ferry on the NJ side tomorrow. We walked over to the Memorial. On the way we saw a movie being filmed but still don't know what it was. We didn't see anyone famous. The Memorial was beautiful. Highly recommend getting an online reservation or you have to stand in a long line to get tickets. There is a lot of construction still going on around the site. It was still moving to know what happened there. I ... read more

Geo: 40.7528, -73.9853Weather 81 sunny, warm and breezy Somehow we figured out how to hop a train from Stamford, CT to New York City. It took a couple of circles around the station to figure out where to go. Bought our tickets and hopped on the train. Pretty easy. It dropped us at Grand Central Station which was a few of blocks from our hotel. We are staying at the Courtyard Marriott Manhattan. I really like Marriott. They are clean and comfortable. We happen to be Gold members because Paul racked up points during his travels with Ernst and Young and now I keep up the levels by spending money on our Marriott Visa. Must go shopping. Gold gives us concierge breakfast, happy hours and today it got us in our room earlier than we were ... read more

Geo: 41.0516, -73.5423Weather 80s and sunny We left the great city of Boston today with plenty of sunshine. We set off for Plymouth and Cape Cod only to realize it is Saturday. Everyone appears to go to Cape Cod on a sunny weekend. We decided against it since it would be more than an hour off of our route already. We rerouted to Rhode Island, specifically New Port to the Cliff Walk. We were taking a chance on a suggestion from one of Paul's clients. It was an hour to the coast off-route to Connecticut but that is ok because we just have the road ahead of us. We stopped at the Capital of RI first. Took a peek and on our way.New Port is at the bottom of RI across two bridges and is the ... read more

Geo: 42.3585, -71.0596Weather 100% rain but warm Day started out rainy and continued to be rainy all day. It was warm though. So we put on our rain coats and enjoyed Bahston like all the other Bahstonians. Worked out great because we still had our second day on trolleys. Kept us dry and took us all over Boston. We had some interesting Trolley drivers today. One of them was an older gentleman. Not sure about the gentleman part. He was irritated when people in the back were talking in the back (which wasn't offensive to me) and asked them to stop 3 times and followed up with, "maybe the next war they will be on our side." (which was offensive) They were Middle Eastern. The next one was an odd guy who seemed distracted when talking ... read more
