South America » Chile » Santiago Region April 5th 2013

I was so lucky, that one of my best freinds from home, who now studies in Buenos Aires, came to visit me here in Chile. This led to us spending the weekend in Santiago with her friend Kati, where Helena and Pia went to the Lollapalooza festival. We arrived Friday afternoon, at the bus terminal. At first sight, from the bus, the city looked very boring and not like a big city at all, but it turned out later that this was only because we were in the outskirts in the city. We arrived at the hostel that we had booked on beforehand, since everything is booked the weekend of Lollapalooza. When we arrived they told us that hostelbookers.com had overbooked the hostel and our room wasn’t available. At first I got really annoyed, but the ... read more

15/2-2013: Ee got up at 10 and packed and had some breakfast before getting on the bus. The bustrip took 18 hours but went by surprisingly fast. We saw three movies with spanish voiceover and subtitles and then we slept. 16/2-2013: Ee had a hard time finding a room in La Senera but in the end we found a room at Hostal Croata, a little expensive at 30.000 pesos but including breakfast. We went to the beach even though it was very cloudy. A long walk but we found it and saw some horses used for tourist riding - we ended up speaking with the owner for a long time. Then we went to find some lunch and afterwards the sun came out so we decided to relax on the beach and ended up sleeping so ... read more

10/2-13: After a quite long flight for such a short distance due to bac connections we finally arrived in Antofagasta, which was a really oldschool airport with only one baggage belt which was inside a tent. When we arrived we felt like we had landed on the moon, a breathtaking landscape, all grey-brown dessert and the mountains in the background. We found a minivan to the bus terminal which cost 5.000 pesos but there were nowhere to exhange money and the only ATM in the airport had no money in it. A nice local man asked us in German where we were going and he lend us money to the minivan and helped us at the busterminal. He had been an exchange student in Germany and knew how it was to be a bit lost. There ... read more

6/2-13: after a flight on around 30 hours with a very sick and sleepy Helena as my travel buddy and a stop on 9 hours just to wait for a 1 hour flight in Sao Paolo, we finally arrived in Rio around 18:15. We got our backpakcs and avoided the taxi jokers outside the airport and got a public taxi right away. A bit expensive but a long drive with a lot of traffick jams so it was okay. We had booked the hostel online and chosen the cheapest one, although it had some bad reviews, but everything was quite expensive during carnaval. Our expectacions were really low, but when we arrived they gave ud a small carnaval gift and there were no one else living in our dorm yet ... read more

Asia » Thailand » Central Thailand » Bangkok December 28th 2012

We got up at 8 and packed everything and had breakfast. It was a bit hard, I really wanted to stay - going to Bangkok means going home soon. We found a taxi and luckily the boat was leaving 10 minutes after we arrived at the pier, without any planning from our side. At the mainland we found a minibus for 300 bath to bangkok. We arrived at our hotel around six in the evening and had a shower. Then we went for dinner and afterwards we booked a tour to Ayuttaya temples for two days later. We met up with Pé and one of his friends and had some beers. When he had closed his shop we went to the club "under" Kao Sahn street in a basement - good music but super loud and ... read more

Asia » Thailand » Eastern Thailand » Koh Chang December 16th 2012

We arrived at the pier at around 7 and found a taxi. First we had planned to go to White Sand Beach but it turned out that there were not many bungalows there, mostly hotels and too many tourists. We would have stayed if it wasn't for our taxi driver who told us we couldn't get a room for under 2000 bath there, which of course turned out not to be true. So we continued to Lonely beach which had also been recommended to us by our friend in BKK. We got some bungalows at Siam Hut for 380 bath, which was okay but there were no towels, soap, toilet paper and so on... On the other hand we were right on the beach. We went to the beach to catch up on our sleep after ... read more

We arrived in the airport after a good flight, this time it didn't feel as long as usual. We wanted to take a taxi from the airport but because my father brought his bike in a big box, no one wanted to drive us with taxi meter from the stands at the airport, everyone wanted 800 bath which is far too much. We tried to see if there were any busses for Kao Sahn but without luck. But we were lucky enough to meet one taxi by the parking house and he agreed to take us for 400 bath. It was not easy getting the bike secured in the trunk and sitting with all our backpacks in the taxi but we managed. We arrived at the hotel that my father had booked from home very cheap, ... read more

We got up early and had some breakfast before taking the 8 o clock boat back to Ranong. Here we took a bus at 10:30 to Bangkok. We got some really good seats in front of the bus with a lot of space for our long legs. We arrived around 10 in the evening. We ended up driving with a really nice taxi driver back to Kao Sahn, he 'saved' us from som other taxi drivers who tried to take overprice. We couldnt get a room at our old hotel, so we booked it for the next night and stayed at budget guesthouse for the night, for 400 bath. We went out for a beer and met some guys Pé and A who had a t-shirt shop next to the bar, and we ended up drinking ... read more

Asia » Thailand » South-West Thailand » Ranong April 25th 2011

We got up at 8 and took the boat to the mainland and thereafter we went by bus to Ranong. Unfortunately we had to spend a night there because the last boat for Koh Chang had already left, a bit of a shame since we didnt have many days left. In Ranong we searched for the night market, but after walking around for ages we guessed that it was closed. Instead we had thai food at a local restaurant where there was live music and later we watched 'grimlings' on TV there. The next morning we got up at 8 and had som breakfast at Pons Place. After that we got on a minibus and down to the harbour where we got on the longtail boat to Koh Chang. Unfortunately the boat broke down after 20 ... read more

Asia » Thailand » South-West Thailand » Ko Tao April 19th 2011

We got up at 7 in the morning and got ready to leave, Stefanie and I were heading for Koh Tao and Frank for Bangkok and Denmark - poor him. We arrived at Koh Tao and I tried looking for the bungalows I had lived in earlier, but I couldnt find them at first so we found another place where we could stay for the night. The island had been flooded a couple of weeks before we arrived and you could see that the resort had taken damages, but other than that there were not many damages to see. We found the place I had stayed at earlier (S.B.C) and decided to move there the next day. We went to Coffee Boat for some lunch, which is a small local restaurant I keep coming back to. ... read more
