We took a taxi to Haad Rin at about 10 in the morning. We arrived at Suncliff where we had a room waiting, 600 bath for a room for three persons. We hurried to the pool, which has the most amazing view over the cliffs and the sea. We spend all day there and walked a little around in the city to have a look, everyone was selling full moon gear. We talked to a couple of Danish police officers who stayed at our hotel and met them after dinner too, at Same Same bar which is owned by two Danish girls. We drank buckets but Frank felt sick and had to go home. Stefanie and I went to the beach which was already super crowded, there were fireshows and different parties everywhere. The next morning ... read more

We woke up at 7 to take a taxi to the airport, our flight was an hour delayed so we arrived at 11:45 in BKK. When we landed Frank - Stefanies boyfriend who came to visit from Denmark - had already been waiting for 7 hours, poor guy. We took a taxi to Kao Sahn Road again, from the taxi we saw some red-shirts that were protesting a lot at that time. When we got to Kao Sahn we booked tickets for Koh Phangan and left our bags at the office. We had some good thai food for lunch and the best orange juice in the world (again). We had a footmassage, went to an internet café and just walked around the streets. After we had dinner it started pooring down really bad, but we had ... read more

We went back to Saigon, first we spent 2,5 hours on the boat and after that 5 hours in bus. We met some nice Vietnamese people on the bus who helped tanslating when we had breaks and when we arrived. We found a hotel (Hotel 97) for 8 $ a night close to the bars and the more touristy areas. We found a pizza place and we were really hungry after the long trip. After this we walked around in Saigons streets, the first time we saw it in the evening. It was less chaotic and a better experience than our first day there - we found some crazy shops and bought some different stuff to bring home. We booked a trip on the Mekong river and to the floating market the day after, and since ... read more

Asia » Vietnam » Southeast » Ho Chi Minh City » Cu Chi April 3rd 2011

We arrived in Saigon around 11. We bought tickets for the island of Phu Quoc in South Vietnam, we had to pay 52 $ for two tickets with bus and boat, and we had to leave the same night at 10. A bit expensive. After this, we decided to go see the Cu Chi tunnels just outside the city, we shared a taxi with an Australian couple that we had met on the bus from Cambodia. The tour out there was okay, but we had to turn around a couple of times because the driver didn't know the way. We saw a lot of their weapons and homemade traps, which where quite brutal. One of the tunnels was bigger than the tourists, so the tourists could try walking around in them (Western people take up a ... read more

Asia » Cambodia » North » Siem Reap March 31st 2011

We got up at 8:30 to catch the bus to Siem Reap. I slept most of the ride, but not properly since my head kept bobbing around as it will do on every single bus you take in Asia. The guesthouse that my father had recommended had been shut down, the owner was in prison for abusing a small boy (!?) so we decided to go to Green Town which had also been recommended to us. It was a nice place, only 5 $ a night including internet. We decided to order tickets and visas for Vietnam, since we had seen all we wanted in Cambodia and had over a week left. We ate at a local restaurant, and had Cambodian food, Khmer spring rolls and chicken cashew - really good! After this we went to ... read more

Asia » Cambodia » South » Kampot March 28th 2011

We got up early the next day to catch the bus to Kampot at 8, which was no fun with a pretty bad hangover - reminded why we don't usually do that. Luckily, it only took 2 hours by mini bus, but unfortunately I couldnt sleep, because the Swedish guy next to me was very eager to talk. In Kampot we found a room for 4$ at Cozy Elefant, nice and cozy place as the name states and it has free bicycles! We found out that our plan once again was impossible. Bokor Hill Station had been closed off along with the national park, so it was no longer possible to go there on our own, there were only tours for a whole day and on top of that they had modernised the place and would ... read more

The next morning we got up early and bought some sandwiches to go, and ate some thai food for breakfast on the way to the bus. We got on the bus which was waaay to cold, they really fired up that air con, I preferred the local busses in the Phillipines with open windows. We had to change bus in Trat and near the boarder to Cambodia again. At the boarder we bought a visa for around 1200 bath. Our ticket only took us the boarder, which we didnt know, since the boarder and the city had the same name. We had to pay 10 dollars for getting to the city of Koh Kong. We were very tired and angry with the drivers at the boarders, they wouldnt let us share a taxi with the other ... read more

When we arrived in Bangkok we took a taxi to Kao Sahn Road. We found the hotel that I had stayed in with my parents a couple of years before, Kao Sahn Palace Inn. It had now been renovated and I almost couldnt recognize it. The first time we stayed there the fan was very close to falling out of the roof and everything else also looked like it was going to fall apart. Now it was all new and shiny, and we also had to pay 800 bath, which was way more than the first time we stayed there, probably double the original price. But we wanted to stay there because they had a roof top pool, which is very crucial in the heat and small closed streets in Bangkok where you have no way ... read more

We left Dumaguete and Harold helped us catch a bus heading for Sugar Beach. When we arrived at Sugar Beach with a boat and a small boy who was very angry that his brother made him sail us for a low price, we met some locals singing karaokee at the first part of the beach. They invited us in, but we were too tired and just wanted a place to stay. We found a really nice bungalow at Driftwood Village for 600 pesos. Nice, small and cozy place. A real Robinson feeling over the place, everything was made in bamboo and wood. We spend the next day in real Sugar Beach style. Lazy and not doing anything. We stayed by the beach in some hammocks, it was a really nice sunny day. We had lunch and ... read more

We got up at 4:45 which was really early for us, but we had to catch the ferry at 6. We were lucky to get a room at Harolds Mansion which is a very popular backpacker place there. We had to pay 500 pesos for a room, which included breakfast and 30 minutes of internet a day. We had some breakfast and packed out. After this we went to CENTROP ZOO. Here we were lucky to meet a guide - it was his day off, so he showed us around for free, I guess he didn't have anything to do. We only payed 10 pesos at the entrance. He was very proud of his job, he was in charge of the worms and rats which they used for feeding the animals, so he was breeding them ... read more
