I was so lucky, that one of my best freinds from home, who now studies in Buenos Aires, came to visit me here in Chile. This led to us spending the weekend in Santiago with her friend Kati, where Helena and Pia went to the Lollapalooza festival.
We arrived Friday afternoon, at the bus terminal. At first sight, from the bus, the city looked very boring and not like a big city at all, but it turned out later that this was only because we were in the outskirts in the city.
We arrived at the hostel that we had booked on beforehand, since everything is booked the weekend of Lollapalooza. When we arrived they told us that hostelbookers.com had overbooked the hostel and our room wasn’t available. At first I got really annoyed, but the hostel manager had taken care of everything so it was not a problem at all. They gave us the direction to a hotel that we had to stay in, and after a long conversation with the woman in the reception (and her calling the hostel manager), we ended up getting a room there for the same price as the hostel room, even though
it would normally be more expensive.
Guri and I had a nap since we were really tired from the party the day before in Valparaíso. Then we went out for dinner near Plaza Brazil with Pia and Helena who had some pancakes, Katis back hurt really badly so she stayed in. After that we went to a party with some of our friends from Valparaíso at their friends house. Pia and Helena didn’t stay for long, they had to be ready for the festival the day after, they did however stay long enough to give a guy the impression that they were lesbians and for Pia to find out that she had been saying the wrong word while doing her shoulder dance.. (“Hombre, hombre, hombre” instead of “hombro, hombro, hombro”)
The next day we slept until noon and had pizza for “breakfast” with Kati. After lunch Guri and I went to Plaza de Armas and were being tourists for a while. We walked around Bellas Artes and Bella Vista and went to the view point in Bella Vista. The view was craaaaay, you could see the entire city and it was so much bigger than I expected. Put
things in contrast when we think of our ‘big cities’ at home in small Denmark. Only pitty was that you see a loooot of smog over the city.
After this we met up with the guys and they helped us buy bus tickets for Guri and Kati, a nice 24 hour bus ride to Buenos Aires. For dinner we went to the COOLEST restaurant in the world called “Los Vikingos” - i might be coloured here - but we had ourselves a real Viking dinner… This is a place where kids run around with helmets and swords and no one seems to care. After dinner we had some drinks near our hotel, of course, where Pia and Helena stopped by for 5 minutes before passing out after Lollapalooza.
Sunday we checked out of the hotel and had lunch at a Chinese restaurant which was kind of bad, but at least we didn’t have to go on the bus hungry. We went to the bus station and had to say goodbye to the girls.
