After the comforts of an air conditioned apartment and the hustle of city life, Sara and I opted to go back to our roots..... We flew from KL to Sandakan (Malaysian Borneo) and checked into a bamboo hut in a jungle resort metres away from the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre. Very similar to our Mexican jungle experiences - only marginally cooler. That afternoon we ventured along the jungle floor on the elevated board walk to the feeding station for the orangs. Here wardens provide a basic fruit diet for many of the recently released orphans. And we waited..... Ropes began to sway in the distance and we caught our first glimpse of these amazing creatures swinging their way towards us hand over hand and foot over foot. Silence reigned over the small group of onlookers who ... read more

Hello Guys, OK, left Koh Tao which was sad, but the show must go on. So headed to Raliey or Rai Lei, the Thai's dont even know how it's spelt. What chance does a dixlexik bloke have?? Anyways, caught up with Mum on her last few days in Railey which was cool. Such a beautiful place, massive rocks that look like they've forced themselves out of the sea. My mate Elliott from Koh Toa cam down to join us and the rock climbing began. Bloodly wicked. You get such a rush when you climb a 30 meter cliff and look down, very few better feelings!! Stayed there for about 5 nights then Elliott and i have come down to the perhentian lslands in Malaysia. Oh my God, such a sweet looking place. We came here because ... read more

We left Chiang Mai for a day and a night, but the lure of the Night Bazaar brought us back for one last visit. One new set of t-shirts and trousers later (for Claire and I- we are trying to instil in the children the meaning of austerity and so they are wearing rags and eating from dustbins) and we have booked ourselves on the night train to Bangkok. First class, too, as it was all they had left, and believe it or not, time is running out for us in the Land of Smiles. (I must add a note here- Claire and I are travelling first class, as Mia and Jake have yet to contribute financially in any way, we have reserved them a crate on the roof). We ventured further north for a night ... read more

So we left Chau Doc and headed southwest to "beach town" of Hon Chong, when they say beach, they mean, one beach. Oh and its as hard as a rock from all the cement factories near by. But it was beautiful country, giant limestone rock formations jutted out of the flat rice fields like, well i dont know what like but it was cool. Hon Chong was small with 1 very nice resort, that we did not stay at, haha, but we did head over there to get a full blown message, Steam Bath, Sauna, Whirlpool, Shower, Message. For about $4.50. I dont think you can beat that! Also there was a cool Pagoda built inside a cave, the ocean hitting the limestone rocks makes caves all along the ocean here. The next day we headed ... read more

I'm sitting in my room now and I have borrowed my roommates computer with internet. Don't know for how long she will let me do that though! My flight went ok, they kept me awake most of the night serving things though which was rather annoying. So I just slept for three hours or something. When I arrived I was met by three small chinese girls and two of them were very excited since they hadn't picked up anyone before.... they answered different things every time I asked a question but they were very nice at least. After waiting for another plane and driving some americans to a hotel, they actuallt did get me checked in to my dorm and even showing me the room. The room is...ehh...well at least a room. Not very clean though ... read more

The beauty of Tokyo is like an image seen in a dream. It always stays with you. The radiant Tokyo Tower is always in my mind. It surfaces and resurfaces without even my permission so that I have to relive my memories time and again. Though we go through our life chronologically, that is with the flow of time, our consciousness and thought process is always concurrent. In any given moment, we relive our whole life. I remember Tokyo from the very moment I landed at Narita Airport. The first name I saw there was the name board of Ma Cafe, a Coffee Shoppe. I was through the customs very quickly and was taken care of by the travel agency in to a luxury coach. The first impressions were rerrific, with the landscape unfolding with the ... read more

Okay, I definitely have the most witty and brilliant family and friends in the entire universe, evidenced by your awesome comments. Thank you!!! I haven't been answering individual e-mails and comments, but I promise you, it's not you, it's me:-) I'm just too tired to answer all of them currently, but I reeeeealy appreciate them, and I will get back to every last one of you when I'm back in the States. I'm still in McLeod Gang today, and yes, I still have shingles. I didn't do a whole lot today, which is still driving me *nuts,* and now I'm debating whether I should leave tomorrow morning to Delhi by plane, and figure things out from there (benefits: more to do and better health care options), or if I should stick around McLeod Gang and do ... read more

t-143 days to mysore I don't remember the last time I have been this excited. I bought my plane ticket two days ago and have been doing endless research on India. I leave on January 16th 2006 and arrive in Delhi on the 17th. I met a man who owns clothing store on the block where I work and he's asked his family in Delhi to meet me at the airport. Needless to say in a place as big as Delhi it is nice to know that someone will be expecting me. I'm going to Mysore as a gift from my father in order to celebrate my improvement in health. I'll be studying to become a yoga teacher and yoga therapy with Shri Jayakumar for between four and six months, depending on how I like it. ... read more

The Big day! Val & I being in our relationship for 8 years now calls for the next step. God I'm going to propose!! We intended to get married next year of Aug 26, 2006. Unfortunately, we had to move the date to Dec 19, 2006 because she would be taking her board exam August of next year. We mutually agreed to move it then & announced it when our families met for brunch. I had been planning the proposal for weeks. The buying of the ring was the most stressful. I sought the help of my mom, my officemates and my brother in deciding on the “Right Ring”. And it did not end there. How to present it was even harder & involved a lot of coordination & time. I was looking for the best ... read more
