ENTRY SIX — November 15th 1986 Lahore Cathedral (Cathedral Church of the Resurrection or Kukar Girja ) As I struggle to put our experiences on paper (now a travel blog) in a coherent fashion, I can see now what I totally failed to comprehend then. There was a pattern emerging from the events of recent weeks. A mystery was unfolding. Our plane to Lahore was seven hours late and there was no one to meet us at the airport. We looked a sight! Not wanting me to meet the Bishop in my unkempt state, Miranda booked us into a hotel. I phoned Bishopsbourne and made arrangements for the following morning. As the next day dawned — the humidity lower and sun shining — I set out for my appointment with the Bishop. It felt good to ... read more

I was just a baby when I went to the Phillipines. Of Course I don't remember it, but my mother said I enjoyed it very much and that I ran a lot around the beach in my little swim bottoms. ... read more

ENTRY FIVE — July 31st 1986 India Bombay: is almost indescribable in its intensity, assailing all the senses at once. As you arrive in the East, what strikes you is that everything — down to the smallest detail — is radically different! You're now in an alien world. Sights, smells, sounds, all compete for attention. Our taxi inched slowly through the dense traffic, horn blasting, eddies of people washing around us, cyclists weaving their way in and out, heedless of the larger vehicles. Tiny three-wheeled auto-rickshaws putt-putted past like toy cars, fitting into infinitesimal spaces. The odor that is India pervaded everything: a sweetness of sandalwood mixed with burning cow dung, and just a hint of spicy food... read more

Linda and I decided to spend our summer vacation with my parents in Thailand and then Malaysia, revisiting the places where I had gone to high school from 1966-68. We flew Malaysian Airlines departing Frankfurt, with a refueling stop in Bahrain, arriving in Kuala Lumpur on 2 July. We stayed overnight in Kuala Lumpur, and although we were very tired we ate satay at a nearby restaurant before turning in for the night. We flew from Kuala Lumpur to Bangkok the next morning and arrived about 1 pm. My parents were at the airport to greet us. We relaxed the next two days and saw some of the sights, such as the Grand Palace. We drove to the Rose Gardens to see the Thai cultural show, and then on to Hua Hin, where we enjoyed the ... read more

I visited Great Wall of China in January 1979. It was so cold and strong wind over the wall. I met the army soldier almost the same age as I was. They are so nice and handsome guys. I asked them whether I could take photos of them. They give me the special words permission for the photos taken. So nice day that day.... read more

20 December 1978 Wednesday. Following a stopover in Kuwait, we arrived in Bangkok. Miraculously Linda's malaria fever had broken; or maybe we couldn't measure it since the air temperature was also very hot. Nevertheless, she felt much better. To be safe we spent the rest of the day relaxing at my parents' home. As my Dad was pastor again for the Evangelical Church of Bangkok on Soi 10 Sukhumvit Road, which he had founded in the mid '60's, we stayed in the parsonage. It was great to be back in Thailand; the first time we had visited since our departure in July 1975. 21 December 1978 Thursday. Before Christmas we had time to go to Hua Hin for a couple of days on the beach. My parents, Wayne and Aunt Minnie, my sister Judy and her ... read more
