We were stopping in what used to be an old school house, the old couple running it were really friendly, the old guy especially, he had a few words of wisdom to give us every time he saw us.... and they had a whole army of sausage dogs running around the place....the first night we went out for a walk then when we came back to the room a gecko ran out from under the bed and up the wall, Frauke totally freaked out, her face was a picture!!!! I like them now though! We booked a trekking tour... well it ... read more

Chamba, Champavati Temple The temple of goddess Champavati is shikhara style stands near the royal place and the tradition holds it that this temple was made in the name of Raja Sahil Verman's daughter Champavati. Champavati was of religious disposition and used to visit sadhu's place, the site of the present temple. The Raja grew suspicious of her going to sadhu, so he followed her one day with dagger drawn in his hand. But when he reached sadhu's places, he found neither sadhu nor his daughter there. A voice however came from the stillness upbraiding him from his suspicion and saying that his daughter has been taken away from his as punishment. He was further commanded to construct a temple in her memory to atone for his sin and to avert calamity to his family. The ... read more

spent the whole of yesterday afternoon sitting at the cafe planning our trip and calling up hotels. not as pricy as we thought. around 800-1000Rs for 3 people. it's so hot now...on standing up...you'll find your trousers wet from sweat...and when your skin touch a different part of your clothes...it'll feel it's hotter than your skin. if it's humid here...then even sweating and evaporation won't work...then it'll be bad... in the evening...we had Amen Chicken delivery...recommended by the students. had cream chicken and butter chicken. really tasty but very rich. and we had difficulty finding a place where we could eat....ended up eating at the chairs outside the library. this dog turned up halfway through the meal. waiting for some food i guess. but was very good and just sat there. we collected the bones and ... read more

So we have been in Malaysia for about 5 days. Time flys when you are lost in a foreign country! Its hot and crazy, just the way I like it. Kuala Lumpur is an amazing city. If the people here operated on karma they should expect very good things to happen to them in the future. Everyone here has been so amazing. If people see that we are lost, they ask us what we are looking for. We have had one person drive us to the tourist office, we have had a cab driver give us his phone card for free when ours wasn't working. People seem so keen to help out one another. And they always seem happy! They smile and say hi to each other. They say sorry to each other at the drop ... read more

Last night in kl was cool, we went up the big KL tower and saw the city at night - it was amazing! I was a bit scared though, didnt want to go too close to the edge, but managed ok. On the way back to china town, we found this cool indian cafe place, and we were sort of pulled in by the man who showed us all his food, and then started to dish up all these things for us, before we knew it we were eating! was very funny, the man was realy nice and kept asking us if we wanted to try things, he was most distraught that chris didnt want to try his prawns! he kept bringing them on a plate and offering them to chris over his shoulder! We ate ... read more

Hello, Laura - We went on a day trip today to a canal town called Suzhou, an hour long train ride from Shanghai. Had a bit of a palava (yet again!) at the train station, and once more could only get 1st class tickets at an inconvenient time! I swear they are just trying to con us out of out money. We planned to spend a full day there but could only get a train that got us in at 1pm so it was a bit of a flying visit. We walked around a very nice traditional garden, that is on the World Heritage List. It was called 'the Master of the Nets Garden' (see pictures). It was very serene, apart from the obnoxiously loud tour guides that sort of ruined the atmosphere (one even had ... read more

Chamba, Hari Rai Temple Shri Hari Rai temple (Vishnu temple) is located near Chaugan gate. The temple is in shikhara style built in stone. The image of worship is Vaikuntha form of Vishnu having three faces-human, boar and lion. The bronze image of the deity is in superb execution. Stylistically the image is certainly of earlier date than the second half of the 11th century A.D. The central figure of the image, with a pronounced well-modelled chest and waist, is clad in dhoti with prominent but stylised folds, arrayed artistically. The fixture is elegantly decked in beaded anklets with pendants, bracelets, finger-rings, armlets with diamond-shaped central pieces, a beaded garland, an elaborate necklace with pendants, flower-shaped kundals and mukut (crown). The hair is arranged in coiled locks falling on shoulders and back. The eyes are laid ... read more

Phnom Penh has definitely been the biggest eye-opening, shocking place I have been to so far on this tour, and I doubt anywhere else will be like it. The city itself is ok, a lot more developed than I expected, with lots of bars, restaurants, book shops etc etc, the city's exterior doesn't really reveal the shocking secrets it hides within. Our full day in Cambodias capital started normal enough, a visit to the Royal Palace and the Silver Pagoda, both of which were very nice and grand buildings, that was followed by a visit to The National Museum which i'm sure was very good but as soon as I set foot into any museum my brain just turns into mush! I just don't do museums! Then on to Wat Phnom which again was very nice, ... read more
