My Excuse for not posting any entry for over a week is simpley. "I'm in the ISLANDS man." Currently at Bottle beach. You need to take a boat to get here, so it prevents a lot of the big party people to stay away, allowing for a little R&R. Check it out. This is exactly what I need at the end of my trip My days consists of 9am Wake up 10am Eat Breakfast 11am Go to the beach, play frisbee, swim, chill 1pm Eat lunch on the white sand beach 2pm return to beach, play volleyball, more sun bathing, more swimming 7pm Wash up and head to dinner 8-11:59pm Hang out with cool people Go to bed Repeat this for 1 week and this is what I do. So, we're back in Bangkok. we've been here a couple of days and we leave tomorrow for Australia. Bangkok is nice but we havent really been enjoying it becase we have so many last minute things to do. HAHAH here is a funny story .... last night we were walking around Khoa sarn road which is like the backpackers street. there are tons of guest houses and strret vendors and most importantly white people. So anyways we decided we wanted a curry dish because we would shortly be leaving thailand. Lots of the restaurants here have a podium thing outside with a menu on it so you can read what they have then decide if you want to eat there. We checked out a couple places but werent amazed by any so we kept walking. After ... read more

Hello from Singapore! Arrived late but still had time to spend a couple of hours at the Long Bar at Raffles and shut the place down with my (original) Singapore Sling. Got up early and headed to get my much anticipated cup of coffee and kaya toast. So yum. Photo shows the 4 slices...delish! Wandered down along the boat quay area to the merlion and then down to Chinatown. This is such a great city/country! Gotta come back!! Taking the subway back to the airport was a breeze. Lounge is good. Lots of snacks, bevs, large with nice atmosphere, tvs, computers (usb equip as you've probably already noticed!). Only complaint...though there are lots of windows it's too hard to plane spot with the walkway in between so I guess I won't be catching a glimpse of ... read more

26th: Arrived in Sapa early hours of this morning after an over night train ride from Hanoi. Met our guide Mic at Lao Cai station. Bus ride up the mountains to Sapa. The train trip was enjoyable with beds not exactly made to measure, but a fairly good night sleep had by all. We have just had breakfast (Pho) beef soup which costs 40,000 dong or $3.25. :(Yesterday 25th) Unbelievable day in Hanoi, It is the most amazing place, spent the whole day walking the Old Qtr, Tried to follow the Lonley Planet walking Guide but I think it is better to just head down bum up and take in all the amazing stalls. Still find it hard to get over the traffic, motorbikes by the millions. Back to the Old Qtr last night for tea, ... read more

Geo: 33.9184, 108.719This time I got a guided tour from Nicky, one of our volunteers working at the museum and was able to get much more out of the trip than just the initial wow factor. I didn't realise there are 6000 warriors in total, most of which had been uncovered and then covered up again to protect them before they are taken to the warrior hospital where all the thousands of warrior jigsaw pieces are put back together. I also got to hear of the Maesoleum and the stories surrounding it i.e. Rivers of Mercury. All is yet to be excavated! The Chinese see no rush and don't want foreign help. It's exciting to think what else may be down there. In the future (when they eventually get round to excavating!) the Terracotta Warriors may ... read more

blog by Dave & Bronia Buddhism in Sri Lanka is followed by 75% of the population and March 12-14 is the Sinhalese Buddhist New Year. We were warned that the country's population swells during the week before and after the New Year as families from abroad come home and people take a week off to celebrate so hotels would be booked and the rates would soar. To avoid the crowds and the expensive hotels we decided to head next to Ella, a hill station with a cooler climate and reportedly boasting stunning views of the surrounding terrain, located in the centre of the country. To ensure we had a place to stay during this busy period we pre-booked our hotel. Upon arrival at The Country Comfort Inn we are disappointed to find that we've been placed ... read more

Ok then. BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND! Gee, I've always wanted to be able to say that :o) Yes, I am committed to bringing you the news of my travels, though by the lack of entries for the last 3 or 4 months I guess it might be hard to tell. Lets just chalk it up to the phenomenon know as 'blog lag'. In blog circles thats the name for what I've done. And it is comforting to know enough people do it that there IS a term for it. That coupled with the fact that this is the 4th entry in as many days I now don't feel quite so slack. Laos is my most favourite country to date and definately worth visiting, even if my journal isn't all that timely, since we were there in ... read more

Arrived in Chengdu at 6am, and you could already feel the heat. Temperatures in the high 20s here so finally getting to put away the jumpers and trousers. Country is much greener the further south you go, but then, there are also more flies here too so more bites. First introduction to the hostel involved sitting on the internet round 7am waiting for them to check us in, when a cat jumped out from under the pc and raced to the corner of the room, only to reemerge with a mouse between its teeth squealing. Cead mile failte! It's coming close to the national holiday so things are getting busier - the whole of China gets the week of 1-7 May as a national holiday, and around this time travelling gets chaotic and all the tourist ... read more

Fort Kochi is an interesting place: when walking around its streets lined by European-style mansions, it is almost hard to remember that you are in India. Everything seems to be a bit more relaxed here than in the other parts of India we visited, and more traveller friendly. It clearly embraces its rich cultural heritage, following spells of control by the Portuguese, Dutch, and British. To a certain extent, the city reminds me of Cape Town in South Africa: while Fort Kochi is in some ways clearly Indian, and while Cape Town is in some ways clearly South African, there is something about these places which makes me feel comfortable here as a European... We arrived in Fort Kochi on Saturday, after taking a train from Coimbatore to Ernakulam and a ferry from Ernakulam to Fort ... read more
