On a Thursday night we lie, shivering under the covers desperate for the heater to kick on, the only pair of socks I'd packed working to thaw my feet up in the central highlands, surrounded by coniferous trees and nay a coconut in sight; Friday afternoon scorched in the middle of desert sands that may well take the skin clean off your feet, thick dusty air giving way only on occasion to a merciful breeze from the bay - a rolling sea of brick-red sand dunes as far as the eye can see.... welcome to Vietnam. Over thousands of years ethnicity, political allegiance, cultural practice and foreign meddle have found their culmination in a country with one of the world's most fascinating contours - a snake-like head gazing north toward China, the serpentine body wrapping itself ... read more

If your not in to kite surfing or wind surfing then 2 nights and 1 day is enough time to enjoy what Mui Ne has to offer. Having said that, getting to see it all is hard work since the town stretches all the way along the 20km coast... not a problem with a ped of course. We based ourselves right in the middle of this stretch of the map and explored north in the morning and south in the afternoon stopping back in the middle for a beer at midday. North, through the local village we stopped by the sand dunes which is apparently popular for sliding down on mats which you can rent from the local families. We were so pressured on parking, renting 'slides' and buying from the cafe that, feeling annoyed, we ... read more

Having in mind that we would be arriving in Mui Ne around midnight and searching for a place to sleep at this hour simply didn’t seem too appealing, just in case we had booked a night in one of the guesthouses online a day before. We mentioned to the bus driver where we were staying but weren’t sure whether the nodding meant that he understood what we were saying or whether he was just trying to get rid of us. The latter one seemed more probable to be honest… We arrived in Mui Ne a bit later than planned as it was getting close to 1.30 when we reached the town. Driving through empty streets, we were looking on both sides making sure we haven’t passed our guesthouse yet but we were driving so fast that ... read more

I booked my bus for Ho Chi Minh City in the morning. There were a couple of things known about Mue Ne that I wanted to do but I hadn't booked anything. A guy in the street with his motorbike approached me asking what I was up to and offered if he could show me the main sights around. Sure enough, I took him up on his offer. He took me to the white sand dunes, the red sand dunes, the fairy stream and the fishing village. The fairy stream I had no idea about. He just dropped me off, told me to take my shoes and socks off and walk down the stream. It was so pretty. On my journey sown the stream, I met two guys from Spain. They had come across a patch ... read more

On arrival in Mui Be it is a good idea to have some idea where your hotel is so you can ask your bus driver to drop you off in an appropriate place. Naturally we didn't do this and therefore we got a good look at the main tourist strip watching everyone else get off. Finally we were the only ones left and it turned out that the bus didn't go past our place. At least a taxi driver knew where we were going. It was miles out of the way! Our initial disappointment turned to delight as we had an almost deserted beach and an incredible beach front bungalow. Except for needing to get taxis going to and from the strip, it was perfect. We highly recommend the White Sands Resort. We did plan on ... read more

Die "Verbesserung" dauerte ... read more

This was my third visit to Bình Thuận province which is one of my favorite destinations in the South Central Coast of Vietnam. On this trip I spent a week visiting Phú Quý island and other famous tourist sites. It had been 5 years since my last visit in 2008. There have been so many Russian tourists coming to this province during the past few years and now they make up 70% of foreign tourists. I saw them everywhere, in Phan Thiết city, in buses and at other tourist sites. Phan Thiết is the capital city of Bình Thuận province. It’s a pleasant place to visit as the beach is only 3km away from the city. Foods are good and inexpensive. The local government has set up a good bus system which enables tourists to go ... read more

When I was traveling on Lý Sơn island last July, I met a French tourist. He asked me “Have you ever been to Phú Quý island?”. I had no idea where this island was. After I was back home, I searched information through Google and found that this island is located in Bình Thuận province. I decided that I would visit this island when possible. At last I made it and this was the 16th island of Vietnam that I have been to. The visit to this island depends much on the weather (wind) and water flow. Sometimes people were stuck on the island for weeks because there was no boat going back to the mainland. I must say that this was a hard trip because it takes a long time to travel by ship and ... read more
