A few years ago, an aquaintence of ours slowly managed to convince himself that he had become a world-famous rock star. He would appear at our place in his dilapidating Audi wearing tight jeans and a leather jacket and tell us his story of the annoyances of becoming so "recognized". Rather than dispute his claims to fame or try to intercede, we listened in a way that seemed oddly pathological and tried to sympathize with his plight as it was clear that trying to derail his train to a psychotoc break was fruitless. Finally he showed up one night in a panic, the whole world was turning against him, his fans were always watching and it was driving him crazy. Other superstars were on his side, only they could understand, but he felt safe with us ... read more

Well Hello all from Mui ne Vietnam! We arrived in Mui ne following a 5 hour bus ride from Nha trang. On our way we stopped at a garage which had loads of different types of birds in cages laura ran back to the bus to get me to have a look, when I arrived I noticed a monkey was hanging on the wall right above the toilet Laura had just used, she hadn't spotted him at all. It would of made a really good story if he had jumped down beside her when she was doing her business you might of heard all the way back in Dublin haha! We got checked into our hostel Mui ne backpackers which is only recently done up, our room is really nice and very modern. The back of the hostel ... read more

Well a good nights sleep was had by all even though the electricity went off and also the water - which I do not think Mike was best pleased about at the time. Anyway waking up at 6.30 am to the sound of the breaking waves is not bad at all to be honest. Well when we woke up no one had occupied the 3 other beds so we are still not sure if we are in a dorm or not, ha ha. Maybe be able to tell you tomorrow - can you imagine waking up and finding other people sleeping in the bed next to you - I think nightmare might come to mind!!! But when you stay in beach shacks what do you expect! So we decide to get up early and go down ... read more

Well we have now lost our adopted girls as they are on their way back to Ho Chi Minh as they have another week volunteering. It was a real wrench when we left them but I know they will have a great week back at the orphanage. So we have left our 5* hotel in Nha Trang and got a taxi to our next place which was around 1 hour away. The taxi was different as once again we travelled on both sides of the road and overtook lorries in some places you just did not want to watch. Well we have now arrived at our new place which is literally on the beach. We had a choice of 2 types of accomodation one in a bamboo hut with a roof and no doors and the ... read more

Geo: 17.0849, 107.111On arrival in Mui Ne, we were dropped off at the dragonfly, with relatively little hassle - faint! There was a large restaurant attached to the front of the hotel, the rooms were freshly decorated, we had a double bed each, AC, a window, a TV that worked and a fridge = happy days! Now the place itself is more like a strip, and is full of very large and expensive resorts (the russians like it here for some reason!), shops selling EXACTLY the same things, practically next door to eachother and restaurants and bars. We went for a walk that first afternoon, to find some food and see what was about. After a 30 min walk, we came to the conclusion, not much was about and the restaurants were all pretty much the same! We ... read more

We took the bus from Dalat to Mui Ne late morning. The ride was down very winding roads and as soon as we hit the first curve someone was sick on the bus. I pushed my earphones further into my ears trying to block out the retching noise but when I looked out of the window, I saw the sick bag flying past - nice. On reflection, every bus I have been on for the past few months had at least one person who suffered from travel sickness. The ride was horrendous and the bus was tiny but we eventually made it to Mui Ne. We heard conflicting information about Mui Ne - somewhere we read that it is very small and easy to find your way around, other sources said that it was widespread and ... read more

Making it to Mui Ne finally after my adventures with the Coffee Girl and nearly being stuck in the middle of no where with no money, I was excited. Mui Ne is the Kite Surfing capital of Vietnam, this did not go to plan though with no wind and from talking to a few people wind not expected for a while and the overall season had been pretty shit, spew.... I caught up with Jazza (mentioned in my other blog), who was also travelling with Maartrten (20 odd year old Dutch guy), they both had met a couple in their previous travels that had also bought a motorbike, Rob (late 30's Canadian) and Meagan (33 American). So I had a few drinks over the next few days with my new group of friends. With the winds ... read more

We boarded our 8am bus booked last minute lastnight to Mui Ne. Mui Ne is North up the coast from Ho Chi Minh and is famous for their windsurfing and sand dunes. It wasn’t until we stepped onto the bus and were asked to remove our shoes that we realised we had booked a sleeper bus. We were slightly excited as we had wanted to experience one. Our excitement levels were soon dampened when we realised we had been shafted to the back, sharing a very cosy seat with 3 other strangers, very much hung-over from their previous night out. With our hotel address now very skilfully programmed into our phones we managed to get off the bus within walking distance to our hotel. Checking in to our $21/night room, we were upgraded to the Premier ... read more
