We had a great few days in Hanoi. Its an amazing and vibrant city even if the scooters take over the city and crossing the road becomes a possible suicide trip every time. One of my favourite things was embraciing the street BBQ where you cook your own food on an individual fire and sit on tiny little chairs while scooters and cars speed past you beeping their horns. Lush food and great surroundings. We booked outselves on a two night/three day cruise in order to see Halong Bay in all its glory. We were skeptical that the boat would not look quite as good as the one on the flyer but were pleasantly surprised to find it looked just as nice. All the rooms were en suite with a shower on the wall and hot! ... read more

This is going to be a pretty short entry... Last night we went to a local restaurant for tea, which was nice, seems I had the best pick of the meals though...caramel chicken with rice.mmmm From there we headed back to the hostel and caught up with a few of the others before leaving after last orders to a bar/club called the Brwn Eye (or something like that) there were a few backpackers in there and plenty of locals, playing songs going to back to the 80's and 90's. I It was a good night and we danced our feet off!! On the walk back, Carey apprantaly had his phone stolen down the alley...I didnt see this happen but we had been warned! We all got in at around 2am and slpet right though. Local 'Hue ... read more

Just the photos for now as I'm having trouble saving the text...will write later from my Ipod Love to all x Ok so I'll try again. I arrived in Hanoi yesterday on the sleeper train (14 hrs overnight ) from Ninh Binh. I shared by cabin with 3 other people. 2 Aussies and a local. Got a bit of sleep but t was really rocky! Plus I saw a few cockroaches! After getting a motorbike taxi, I checked into hue backpackers, which is awesome! In a 6 bed from with a Japanese lad, a German lad and Dutch lad plus Joanne ( who I met in Pakse) there is a great bar downstairs, tv, free computer use and offers free breakfast After a quick shower we went for a LONG walk to the famous pagoda, which ... read more

Fantastisk dag! Nu er vi ankommet til byen ”Hue”, ca. 200km ... read more

Well after getting up and having a brilliant breakfast in our hotel we decide to venture out and dodge the cyclo men to get to the Imperial Palace. We managed to dodge the cyclo men which was amazing and we are real proud of ourselves. Mind you it was such a hot day they probably decided no way are they going out in the heat of the day. Hue is a citadel which is on the banks of the river and it appears it was chosen by the last emperor of Vietnam. The Imperial Palace where the emperor lived is a citadel inside a citadel. Once we entered the emperor's citadel the heat got really bad and yes I succumbed to getting a pointed hat - so I am now an official Vietnamese lady (yes lady, ... read more

Well after a quiet day yesterday I thought I would give you all a holiday from my blog - see I can be thoughtful. We did not do a lot but that is getting to be quite normal at the moment. So we booked a luxury coach to pick us up from the hotel to take us to Hue (hway is how you say it) so up early this morning. Yes before 7am. I can remember doing that every workday and to be honest it was quite a shock to our system. I remember I am really not a morning person, I think everyone in the hotel realised when I was extremely quiet and did not make a sound. So we check out and wait for the luxury bus with A/C we were told. Anyway this ... read more

Was ist passiert?

Geo: 16.4635, 107.585The bus over the border to Hue, was yet another one running on SE Asia time, with our ETA ever increasing as the day went on! After some dinosaur crisps (yes you did read that correctly... they were actually in the shape of dinos too!) for breakfast, we were on a 'sleeper' bus all day to a town in Vietnam called Hue. The border crossing was rather uneventful, other than the guards attempting to get $1 out of us to line their pockets, apparently for the privilege of an exit stamp. Luckily, with enough of us kicking up a loud stink at the window, they backed down before we had to! However, whilst this was occurring, the bus had driven off through the border! There were a few worried faces, that's for sure, esp ... read more

Hue byvalo za vlady dynastie Nguyen hlavnym ... read more

Leaving Hoi An should have been a nice straight forward bus, the shortest on our trip up the coast at only 6 hours. Due to get us into Hue for just after lunch, although we weren't too hopeful about the arrival time. It picked us up from the hotel a standard hour late and when we got on the bus we discovered all the beds had already been used, the blankets thrown all over and rubbish everywhere! they sat us at the back again. After the usual stopping and starting to pick up locals we got on our way. I went to sleep for a while and woke up covered in and being bitten by red ants, lovely! However suprisingly managed to arrive in Hue on time. Headed for our hotel and checked in with no ... read more
