Edit Blog Post
Well after a quiet day yesterday I thought I would give you all a holiday from my blog - see I can be thoughtful. We did not do a lot but that is getting to be quite normal at the moment.
So we booked a luxury coach to pick us up from the hotel to take us to Hue (hway is how you say it) so up early this morning. Yes before 7am. I can remember doing that every workday and to be honest it was quite a shock to our system. I remember I am really not a morning person, I think everyone in the hotel realised when I was extremely quiet and did not make a sound.
So we check out and wait for the luxury bus with A/C we were told. Anyway this yellow bus turns up and we give our bags to the driver who throws them into the boot at the bottom of the bus and we get on.
I think luxury is being nice as we had to try to find a seat which did not have a tear in it. Not only that none of the air conditioning vents were working
Motorway Service Station
This is a Vietnamese Service Station - good or what? and to cap it all in this heat the seats were plastic - Only 4-5 hours on this but hey ho we are in Vietnam. We are driving on mountain roads to get to Hue and guess what our driver does overtakes 2 cars and a lorry on the wrong side of the road going round a bend! Yes we are still alive. If anyone knows me well they know I am the worst back seat driver in the world - I nearly went up to him dragged him from his seat and drove the bus myself - then I remembered I have never driven a bus! So I decided best thing for it was to open the window and go to sleep.
We arrive in Hue to a barrage of men trying to get us to take a motor bike taxi (with a backpack that is now bigger than me due to my buying new clothes in Hoi An) - not going to happen and then we get bombarded with men asking if we want a taxi. Sometimes in this life you just want a minute to gather your thoughts and decide what to do - Does not
Fishing!
Men fishing in the moat outside the Imperial City happen in Hue. So after saying No, No, No (cannot write the amount of times we said NO) and walked to the hotel. We booked into a little hotel which was highly rated on Tripadviser for £32.31 for the room for two nights including breakfast. The reception we got was amazing we were given a glass of lemon, cold towel and a map of Hue. Sometimes picking a small hotel/guest house does the trick - well done Tripadviser.
By the way I now rate all the hotels/guest houses we stay in on Tripadviser - I am thinking this blogging thing is getting a bit of an obsession!
We decide to have a sleep when we get to the hotel as it is really hot out there and after that we decide that we will go to the Imperial City which is across the Perfume River. I do not know why they call it the Perfume River and we get accosted by that many cyclo men it was getting ridiculous and annoying. We find the Imperial City and guess what it is closed so looks like we will have to run the gauntlet tomorrow.
As we are leaving the walled city we notice loads of fishermen fishing in the moat - we stayed a while to see if anyone caught anything - a couple of tiddlers were caught but that is all.
So after a lemon juice on a boat on the river back to the hotel we go. May go out later but not sure - remember we are oldies, ha ha
