Day Fifteen-Ko Samui The Catamaran ferry to Ko samui only takes 20mins so we had a nice short journey - we arrived at our next resort and had to walk down a muddy path a little unsure of what to expect at the end. We walked through past some bungalows to a bar/restaurant and asked if we were in the right place. The bar was right on the beach front and the weather was gorgeous! We were shown to our bungalow which was average but clean and the bed was comfy. We headed out to the beach and sunbathed and chilled out in the sun for the afternoon. I had a pedicure & Manicure on the beach that cost about £3 - lovely!! We headed for an area called Fishermans Village to find somewhere to eat ... read more

Everything Happens For A Reason Relieved to have left the nightmare of Ko Pha-Ngan behind us, we quickly settled into what we had come south for... lazing on the beach during the day, drinks and chillout time at night... After settling in to our resort, Ark Bar and feasting on massive burgers for lunch in the Ark Bar restaurant with sand between our toes, we decided to walk off the burgers and headed up Chaweng Beach to see what was on offer in Ko Samui... It was roasting hot so we didnt walk too far before heading inland to Beach Road and looping back to the resort. My initial thoughts on Samui were 'wow'! Its very much what I imagine Phuket would have been 20 years ago. Quaint little smelly streets, plenty of touristy shopping ... read more

We have been on Ko Samui for the last couple of days and it is great. It took a bit to get here due to the 6 hours stop over in Singapore on the way from Bali. Our final hop was on a small Bangkok Airways jet. Must say that it was a very good flight. They were very efficient and friendly. Also just loved the very laid back airport of the Island. We have a very simple bungalow just 25m from the beach. 7 kms of glistening sand right at our door step. Got to give that a CF of 8 even if we are all in beds joined together. We have been on a couple of tours. The first was a trip around the Island showing us the verious tourist sites. For those of ... read more

We caught a ferry to Ko Samui. As you might remember, I went there with my cousin Boris in May. We stayed at Lamai beach the last time, so this time we decided to check out Chaweng beach, since it's the best beach supposedly and has the best night life. We took a taxi from the pier and were completely disgusted by the beach. It was really crowded with people and lounge chairs and sellers of all sorts. We didn't like the town either, it's really commercial and crowded. It's not exactly what we were looking for. So we took the tuk tuk to Lamai and found a nice beach bungalow place for us. What a difference. Lamai is so beautiful and not crowded at all. The town also has a much better vibe. Plus the ... read more

On a sneaky venture north of Malaysia we entered the land of riots, blood throwing and insurgency. Thailand. The truth is much further from the media image. The UK Government has lifter the travel advisories for much of the country and so we went on ahead. Though only for two weeks to the beaches. We started our little jaunt in Phuket, the town is not the prettiest place in the world, but we paired up with an Irish couple, hired motorbikes (ok, scooters) and zipped around the island to the beaches. We only had the one accident, and the bike didn't really crash to the floor as my leg held it up, but we did both get some bruises and scrapes. We spent a couple of nights in Phuket before jumping on a ferry to Ko ... read more

Well as you know its been a while since we made an entry. That's because we are in beach bum mode. After our final night in Hanoi, staying at the Splendid Star Hotel (www.splendidstarhotel.com) next to the large Catholic church, we caught a quick flight to Bangkok. The hotel, by the way is an excellent hotel and I would recommend it highly. You get a great breakfast provided and the room we had was massive with beautiful decor, Air con, large screen TV and computer with Internet in the room. Back to the landing in Bangkok. From here we had to catch a taxi to the train station to pick up the overnight train tickets we had booked online earlier in the adventure. This was thru the new booking service that Thai Railway offers via email. You ... read more

The title of my post is the typical question a tuk-tuk driver will ask you when trying to make a sale. To my surprise, they even ask as soon as you set foot out of another tuk-tuk. I just figured out how to read everybody's comments, so thank you guys! Keep leaving them, I enjoy reading what you have to say. Jim - Can you take that cash you made by selling my life away and buy yourself a dustpan? Maybe if your house was clean, you could open a public storage business out of the attic. I'm sure Lucas would enjoy it as well. It's been awhile since my last post. We're now in Krabi for a night, headed to Ko Phi Phi tomorrow.. Hopefully we'll be seeing some beautiful beaches that Hollywood used in ... read more

Apologies with the delay of this last blog - I think I was in denial of the holiday being over and back into reality. THAILAND - The Holiday.... After three months of planes, trains, buses and boats, and pounding the streets around the world in a new city/country every few days, I chose to use the stop over in Thailand for a bit of R & R before I returned to the crazy and busy life that is mine. So I extended the time in Thailand to nearly a week to do just that. The original plan (I seem to have used that a bit this trip - perhaps I should do less planning and more spare of the moment as that seemed to work out the best!) was to spend a few days in Bangkok ... read more

Well the travel blog has taken a long time as we have had trouble with our laptop. during the last lot of travel it got knocked over and we now have a laptop with a broken screen. It also means that I am unable to access all the missive that I wrote about Koh Samui but did not up load onto the blog. so here goes for an edited version! June 11-13. We had a great flight over from Krabi and arrived at the rather beautiful airport on Koh Samui. Rather than being a large impersonal place it was small and comfortable. Stuart made the ususal dash for the loo while we waited for the luggage he took so long that I tried to move the suitcase myself and managed to drop it on my foot. ... read more

Poshing it up in Koh Samui So we are waaaaaaaaaaaaay behind in our blog entries, sorry everyone. It's tricky as internet costs a bit and usually it's more the time that we don't have to write it all up and more so, upload the photos. Anyway Koh Samui....aaaah the hotel we stayed in Koh Samui!!!! We were lucky enough to get a 5 star plus plus hotel through work for penuts in Koh Samui, just near Lamai which is about 15 minute drive from the crazy Chewang (party) town. Basically, our two nights and three days on Koh Samui included enjoying and eating as much of the free breakfast as possible as late as possible (so not to have to buy lunch!), sipping cocktails by the infinity pool, resting in the luxury of our a/c room ... read more
