For those of you who are keeping track, I am not actually writing this on February 14th. I got lazy/busy during my travels and didn't bother to write any blog updates. Fortunately, this thing lets me post things at a previous date. So I will be doing some time-traveling here. Our time in Koh Samui is almost over; tomorrow we're headed to a new island, Koh Phangan, supposedly the ultimate backpacker paradise of the Gulf of Thailand. Yesterday we went on a ridiculously expensive snorkeling tour of the other main island in this ocean, Koh Tao. We left the hostel early and got on a ferry, then switched boats at a small dock near Koh Tao for the real snorkeling tour. Our guide was a Thai guy named Nelly, who spoke a funny broken but comprehensible ... read more

I made it safely to Thailand. I had three flights, from Dalian to Koh Samui. the island I am staying for the time being, and due to my experience flying Chinese airlines I expected the flights to take much more than the allotted 12 hours. I flew China Southern Airlines, which like most Chinese airlines isn't very concerned with timeliness or convenient service, from Dalian to Guangzhou, and then from Guangzhou to Bangkok, to where my bags were being checked. However, the flight to Bangkok was delayed for an extra hour, for some reason unexplained to me but what from judging the scene outside the plane window seemed to be lazy baggage workers. Anwyays, I was met at the gate in Bangkok by a visibly agitated Bangkok Airways attendant, who rushed me and four other passengers ... read more

It's funny how things turn out. I hadn't expected to like Bangkok and saw it as just a stopover to recharge the batteries, acclimatise and see a few of the sights. But I loved it. I've come to this island paradise and, so far, I've been disappointed. The island of Ko Samui is one of the biggest in the Gulf of Thailand about 600km south of Bangkok. Its centre is a mountainous, dense tropical jungle. That terrain falls into the sea along a coastline of craggy rocks and palm-fringed white sands. What's not to like? Well so far I think I've stayed in the wrong parts of the island. I've spent my day sitting on a beautiful beach, listening to chrystal azure waters lapping lazily at the shore. My beach bungalow behind me, its red, pagoda ... read more

Hello, So this blog is about our trip to Thailand, which was intended for a visa run, but didn't quite end up working that way. That's OK though, because then we had more time to spend in the lovely Koh Samui (If we were to get our visas, we needed to spend more time in Bangkok where the embassy was!) So, we changed our flights and enjoyed the Thai island life! For our first few nights we splurged and stayed in the lovely Villa Nalinnadda. As you can see by the pictures, it was modeled to look very Mediterranean, and all of the rooms (there were only 8 in total) were very private and luxurious. I think our favorite part of staying here was the breakfast we received every morning on our little beachside terrace...lovely! Hopping ... read more

Today started off a bit stressful, we had all our tickets for everything on a bit of paper & we were about to board the boat when they told us we needed to exchange the bit of paper for tickets! We hadn't had to do that before! Was a mega rush & then the boat left!! But we got straight onto another boat and ended up beating the previous one to Koh Samui! Then when we got there, we had to wait best part of half hr for our taxi to turn up! Was all worth the stress tho once we got to our hotel... Crystal Bay Resort. It's gorgeous! We have 2 big a/c rooms & the beach is right infront of us with stunning views. We arrived about 1pm so after dumping our bags ... read more

We are now in Koh Phangnan. We have spent 1 night in Railay, 4 nights in Koh Samui and this is our 4th night here. Railay was Railay nice hee hee we spent a very chilled night there and had avery interesting time trying tocarry all our bags across the beach and into the sea to get on a long tail boat back to Krabi airport so that we could fly to Koh Samui. We all got a little bit wet and so did the bags!!! Koh Samui was completely different, very busy and Lamai beach where we stayed was yuck with broken bottles everywhere. Grace and Charles went cable riding It was very high but Grace wasn't scared she thought it was fun on aload of big zip wires. Everyone else went to Bophut Fishermans ... read more

We both had a comfortable night’s sleep and arrived just after 6am the following morning in Koh Samui where it was a tuk-tuk ride to where we guessed we might be able to get accommodation. Trying to find a room at 7am is difficult as if places have been full up the night before, then no-one is likely to have checked out by this time in the morning. After lots of searching for places, Matt came across a nice looking place (way more than our budget) that we were going to check into, when they told us that no, actually the room had been booked already after all. I was not amused as we had looked at the room that hadn’t been cleaned since the previous guest, had agreed to wait while the room was cleaned ... read more

Sorry my last blog was cut a little short, but I thought I should get everything updated now that I have time!! I wish my blogs did justice to this beautiful country, but it doesn't! The things we see, the things we do, the people we meet are indescribable!! We have met so many people it is amazing, and ALMOST everyone is so cool and nice!! We hopped on a bus at 7.20am on friday morning from Phuket to come to Ko Samui. It was the worst bus trip so far, and it didn't help we were a little under the weather. There was 12 people all piled into this 13 passengar minibus. That doesn't sound to bad right?! Well all these 12 people all have luggage too!!! We were all crammed in this little, stinky, ... read more

Well...here we are then. Been having a really really lovely time so far. Landed in Bangkok on saturday morning around 8:30, it was super hot and humid despite being so early. Got taxi into Dusit where our hostel was, around 10 mins from Khao San road. It was really really lovely - my friend Becs recommended it and did well, definately more hotel quality than hostel. At 1000bht a night though its quite expensive for backpacking budgets. My friend Sam was staying on the Khao San Road so we tried to walk down there later but were given wrong directions which resulted in some aimless wandering but we found her in the end. She's been out here since Dec and so is an old pro and was filling us in on all of the scams etc. ... read more
