It seems like absolutely ages ago since last blog, and its only been 8 days. To be fair though, in those 8 days we have done around 1600km travelling by land (not all in one go obviously - that would be stupid) Admittedly not all of those many many kilometres were absolutely necessary, but i'll get to that... We're in Cambodia now and I love it. Such a different vibe to Thailand, so much to take in. This country does funny things to you - one minute you're relaxing and next laughing and next something moves you to near tears, then something makes you smile in the next minute. Its an emotional rollercoaster here. So we said bye to Tess in bangkok and off we went for another night train stint. I had seen on a ... read more

OK so we didnt like Phi Phi. The island is beautiful but really ruined by the tourists. Everyone was posing all the time. Its more a booze booze booze kind of place - all it needs is some holiday reps, a dixy fried chicken and a few kebab houses to top it off really. Such a shame. As Phi Phi was such a let down - we were desperate to get off the island. Whilst I was getting a massage, Graham organised a lovely Valentines present. An escape to Koh Jum, a neighbouring island. Only there are no direct boats to Jum so we had to get a longtail boat over - think small wooden boat with tiny engine doing the crossing to Isle of White. Very choppy sea in a fragile little boat made for ... read more

Left Koh Lanta this morning - on Phi Phi now. Yesterday we built a sand castle - which was great fun! Not sure what I think of Phi Phi yet - we have only just got here so I'll reserve judgement. Its beautiful as an island but is kind of like an ibiza type young wally raver holiday spot and is really really expensive. hmmmm we'll see...... read more

Now we are on Koh Lanta - an island on the south west coast of Thailand. But we've been somewhere else after Koh Tao also so I'll talk about that first... The motion sickness finally stopped - Graham and I were both swaying for several hours after our last dive on Koh Tao - very weird. After I wrote my last blog we were supposed to get the night boat from Tao to Surat Thani on the mainland but when we got there there were no beds left. They offered us a mat out the back on the floor but no doubt he would have offered that to many others also and there would have been no room to lie down. We didnt fancy sitting upright on a hard floor for 6/7 hours so declined. No ... read more

This last 5 days we have been staying on Koh Tao. Ended up staying in some bungalows in Tanote Bay, way over the other side of the island from all of the night life so it is really really chilled. Met leon and Becs one night in the main town to say bye, they've gone home now. Tanote bay is really quiet, our bungalows (the Family Bay Resort) were lovely but the staff were super moody and there was no atmosphere - the Black Tip Dive resort nextdoor was much nicer. We did our 4 day PADI open water diver course here and are qualified divers now which is great. I was super nervous, even in the pool when I could stand up! ha ha. In the sea though, it was amazing. God only knows what ... read more

So we had a really lovely time in Koh Samui, wonderful. Grabbed some dinner for Grahams birthday, it was quite a quiet night though as we all had slight hangovers from the previous night and Leon had third degree sun burns that were causing him some discomfort and us great amusement. Leaving the beautiful hotel was a little sad as we knew that would be the last luxury for the next 4 months. So I ate the free breakfast like it was my last meal, Graham wouldnt let me fill my handbag up with bread rolls though (too embarrassing apparently) Next stop Koh Pangan. Got the boat over and arrived yesterday. Staying in beach bungalows with no aircon and just a fan. Not too bad though really, just basic. The bathroom is just a wet room ... read more

Well...here we are then. Been having a really really lovely time so far. Landed in Bangkok on saturday morning around 8:30, it was super hot and humid despite being so early. Got taxi into Dusit where our hostel was, around 10 mins from Khao San road. It was really really lovely - my friend Becs recommended it and did well, definately more hotel quality than hostel. At 1000bht a night though its quite expensive for backpacking budgets. My friend Sam was staying on the Khao San Road so we tried to walk down there later but were given wrong directions which resulted in some aimless wandering but we found her in the end. She's been out here since Dec and so is an old pro and was filling us in on all of the scams etc. ... read more
