lovely toilet system Sorry my last blog was cut a little short, but I thought I should get everything updated now that I have time!!
I wish my blogs did justice to this beautiful country, but it doesn't! The things we see, the things we do, the people we meet are indescribable!! We have met so many people it is amazing, and ALMOST everyone is so cool and nice!!
We hopped on a bus at 7.20am on friday morning from Phuket to come to Ko Samui. It was the worst bus trip so far, and it didn't help we were a little under the weather. There was 12 people all piled into this 13 passengar minibus. That doesn't sound to bad right?! Well all these 12 people all have luggage too!!! We were all crammed in this little, stinky, scrunched up minibus for what felt like a life time because there was luggage EVERYWHERE all the way to the roof! We didn't arrive in Ko Samui until about 5 pm. We stayed in Ko Samui for a whole week. It was nice to settle in a place for a little while and become familiar with it instead of ALWAYS being in transit

Beach in Ko Samui and traveling. We felt like real backpackers at this time, because here and Phuket were our first places that we just showed up, with no plans whatsoever! We didn't have a place to stay or anything. Everything has worked out good for us, because when we got to Ko Samui, we just told a minibus driver the area of the island we wanted to go and he drove us around until we found a reasonable place that we wanted to stay!! We have been pretty lucky for that! I am dreading the day that we have to walk up and down the streets in 35 degree weather with out backpacks, sounds like fun hey!!
We ended up staying at a guesthouse called, "The Empire". It is a new guesthouse that has only been open for 20 days. I was pretty happy with that, because I am absolutely paranoid of bed bugs, so we stayed clear of them once again!! Where we stayed it was opened by an Italian man (VERY nice and VERY nice on the eyes too 😉 ) and right outside the guesthouse was a motorcycle rental, and across the alley was a little bar and a

getting tattoo tattoo shop. We stayed in a great area and we got to know the locals pretty good!! They would always say 'Hi' to us in the morning, see how we are doing, ask us where we are going, and tell us good places to go! Even if they were across the street and down half a block, if they would see us walking they would yell , 'GOOD MORNING, WHERE ARE YOU GOING?" They were nice, which made it hard to leave them!!
In Ko Samui was the first time we had WAVES! We were pretty excited to play in the waves, it was fun! While in Ko Samui we took a tour of the island. They told us it was going to be 4 hours, well it ended up being about 6 hours! Atleast we got our money's worth! On our tour we got to see the Big Buddha, that stood 12 meters high, Jao Mae Kuan Im, Namuang Fall, Viewpoint, Grandmother and Grandfather rocks and a Mummified Monk. It was...interesting. The mummified monk died 30 years ago at age 70, and his body is now on display, because that is what he wanted! The Grandmother and Grandfather

Finished tat! rocks, were different. The story behind that is there were a bunch of people on a ship that went through a storm and only a young couple survived, they lived in Ko Samui and when they died there 'spirits' formed rocks in a penis and a vagina! Ya, weird i know!! The last thing we saw was a monkey show. Neither of us liked this and I felt bad for just being there watching it!! The monkey's would climb to the top of the tree and twist off the coconuts! It sounds cool, but then the monkey would climb down the tree and they would make his 'pose' for pictures. He had is front arms rest on the coconut, but every time the monkey got tired and started slouching they would yank him up by his collar! I didn't like watching that at all! The cruelty to the animals is our weak points, it is very disturbing to see. Every island we have been on so far there have been these cute little monkey's and the thai people will charge you to get a picture with them. That doesn't sound to bad though right?! Well these monkey's are actually viscous

Deaw (tattoo artist) monkey's but they inject a sedative of some sort to drug them up! We got a picture with one too, and now I feel awful getting that done. There are also alot of homeless dogs around, we try to feed them once in a while!
On a happier note, I got a tattoo here!! I noticed some of you have seen a picture of it on facebook. For those of you that haven't I got it on the outside of my right foot and it says 'Always Together' with a little halo over the A. It is in memory of my cousin Katie that passed away Oct 30. When I showed one the the thai people here, they were trying to think of what 'Always Together' meant and he worded it, 'I will love you forever', so that put a whole new meaning to this tattoo!
The beach here was amazing, but our last 2 days here were a little rainy, so we never got to enjoy the beach to much. Our last night in Ko Samui we spent sitting at the motorcycle rental with all the locals around the hotel drinking some Singha and just chit chatting.

One of the locals we met We had an awesome time doing this. They should us some food, that you can't get at restaurants, and we just chit chatted all night. When we left Ko Samui they gave us a parting gift. I got a handcarved elephant key chain!! I love Ko Samui.
We left Ko Samui Friday, January 29 for Koh Phangan. On the ferry to Ko Phangan it was 'Canada Unite'. On this ferry we met up with 6 other Canadians! We met up with 2 guys from Kamloops, 2 from Red Deer and 2 from Toronto. It was kind of funny because we didn't realize it but the 2 guys from Red Deer we actually met in Koh Phi Phi about 2 weeks earlier. When we were in Koh Phi Phi we met a guy Max and his friend from Montreal, and we hung out with them a little bit. They then knew these guys from Red Deer (Chris and someone else), so we just met them briefly one night, just said hi and there was no real other conversation. So on the ferry over to Koh Phangan we kept looking at eachother funny, they it finally clicked, we already met!

Thailands recycling? Right now we are in Koh Phangan for 3 more nights. Koh Phangan isn't famous for anything except for the Full Moon Party. Everyone the SE Asia migrates to this island for the Full Moon Party. There are about 30,000 people that come to party on this one little beach. Apparently the beach is to small to hold that many people so you will find people on the streets and everywhere! Finding a place to stay on this island is impossible if you wait to long. We got a place but it is on the other side of the island from the party, which is good because we got told we have the nicest beach! The water is SO blue and SO clear, the sand is so white and soft! We are staying in little huts about 10 meters away from the beach and 30 meters away from the water!! We are living the life. Tonight we are just going to hop in a taxi boat to take us to the party. It is weird that our taxi is a boat!
We are enjoying out journey's so far and having the time of our life. I love you and
miss you all!! And don't worry, I will be safe tonight!!
Love,
Keyla 😊
