Yellow, Penang, Red and Green Curry Pastes Hey everyone!!
So the last update we were in Koh Phangan for the full moon party. They hype of the full moon party was better then the party itself we found out, although it didn't help that I was sick either!! It was pouring rain from about 5.30-9.30 right before the party so we never got to take a taxi boat. Instead we got CRAMMED in the back of a little pick-up truck went nascar driving on roads that are worse then the dirt roads in saskatchewan to Haad Rin Beach where the party was. I was surprise that we all made it there without anyone falling out of the truck with all the bumps, but we were all so scrunched that we couldn't move. When we got there I felt like I was at a highschool party. It was filled with very drunk people that don't know how to hold there alcohol. There were people passed out in the sand, people falling off about 8ft high platforms, guys peeing in the water and then girls running through it to go swimming. It was...entertaining to say the least.
The rest of the time in Koh Phangan I was sick, which sucked

Sweet and Sour Chicken and my chicken salad!! You drooling yet? because it hurt just to get out of bed. I was sick here for about 4 days, but it was a good time to get sick since we were just planning on beaching it and not doing anything to exciting, so I didn't miss out on TO much! When i did force myself to get out of bed here we just relaxed on the beach or by the pool and mingled with different people! The people we have met on this journey has been awesome. We have met some really awesome people!!
On Feb 2 at 7am, we were headed for Koh Tao. Koh Tao is known for their scuba diving. It supposedly has some great diving sites and it is the cheapest place to get certified in Thailand! I had my plans to get certified but my asthma was acting up, so I didn't feel comfortable since you are not suppose to dive if you have asthma. I was a little disappointed, but I still have lots of time if i decide to do it later on in the trip!
Koh Tao was an experience in trying to find a place to stay. We heard Freedom Beach was a

my potato and carrot! nice chill beach, away from the tourists, so we got dropped off there after getting off our ferry. The resort that is on the beach was full so we were unable to stay there. So we had to trek back up and down a couple hills to venture and find a different place to stay. We did not feel like going up and down up and down hills in the blistering heat with our 40 pound backpacks, especially since I was not feeling 100% so we thought we would try and trek through the water! We were doing good trekking through the water and the rocks, seeing little crabs along the way, and we could FINALLY see the next beach where we wanted to go until we realized it gets ALOT deeper before we reach the other beach, so we had to turn back around travel back and go for an hour long trek up and down up and down hills until we found a spot to stay. We stayed at Chalok Baan Kao Bay. It wasn't the nicest beach but it was nice to get away from the tourists and the scenery here was beautiful!
After staying here for
4 nights we were headed on your journey to Chiang Mai. To get to Chiang Mai we had to take a ferry from Koh Tao to the mainland and then take a minibus to Bangkok were we prebooked at night at, 'The Overstay'. When we got off the bus we were getting hassled by taxi drivers and with us being unfamiliar with Bangkok we took a taxi, the guy told us 500Baht each because where we were staying was far away. We thought we were getting ripped off but we thought, so it can't be THAT much cheaper with anyone else. The next day when we took the taxi again, we got it metered this time and it was only 70 baht ALL TOGETHER!! So if you ever go to bangkok and get a taxi, make sure it is metered!! When we prebooked out night at The Overstay we thought we were getting a deal spending only $1.50 a night. Well we learnt, you get what you pay for. Although $1.50 was expensive for this place! When we arrived we asked around who we talk to since we booked a night there and the response back was, "No one really

bananas in coconut milk and me Penang Curry works here". So a random guy from England showed us around. We got our own room THANK GOODNESS!! Although it was nothing to brag about. In our room it was cement floors and we got 2 pillows, a sheet and a mat. Well all this stuff looks like it is a perfect home for a few rats and like it has been sitting outside for 3 weeks in the middle of the road getting run over by vehicles, getting spit on and gum stuck to it. There were stains ALL over it! We couldn't even tough it let alone sleep with it! Words can not explain how disgusting this place was! If this building was in Canada it would be considered condemned. I am not sure what was cleaner, the bathroom or the kitchen. The people that stay here, were well, looked like they hadn't shower in about 3 months and like they were all drugged up. This is exactly what this place was...it was a drug house!! I felt dirty just breathing in the air. We were lucky that we only had to spend one night here. I am surprise we made it out alive.
From Bangkok we took

Our cooking class..We are PASSED!! our first train!!!!!! We took a night train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai. It was fun!! It ended up being about a 15 hour train ride, but it wasn't bad since it was through the night. We arrived in Chiang Mai Feb 9 at stayed at the Seven Suns hostel for out first night. We shared a room with a girl from Naniamo. The next 6 nights we stayed at the Libra Guesthouse which is only 200 Baht for the 2 of us and we have our own room with our own shower!! We got pretty lucky here. We have fallen in love with Chiang Mai. Chiang Mai is a beautiful city with temples all over the place! We found out that the best way to see the city was to rent a motorbike, grad a map and away you go!! Although you have to be careful and remember to drive on the LEFT HAND SIDE!! This was a little bit of an adventure but it was fun. We ended up driving around the city, and driving up ontop of the mountain to see a temple and a famous buddha. I can't explain how much fun we had, we felt

While eating supper, this is what we saw! so...free!! Other things we did in Chiang Mai was we went toa Khan Tok supper. This was great to see. We had a traditional buffet supper with entertainment. They did their traditional dances for us such as the fingernail dance!
The following day we were SUPPOSE to go on a trek, but Ashley got sick so we changed it to Feb 14 (the following day) but we were BOTH sick. Remember to DRINK WATER!! We both got dehydrated which then we missed out on bamboo rafting, white water rafting, elephant riding, trekking, waterfalls, and visiting a tribe!! I am very upset about this, I guess this is one of the downfalls to prebooking! But we are looking forward to our cooking class tomorrow!!
We are having alot of fun, we are having our cooking class tomorrow and then the following day we are leaving for a 3 day slowboat adventure to Laos, WISH US LUCK!!!
Although we have been sick, and we have had our ups and downs, I am SO happy that I am experiencing this. The people are amazing, the weather has been awesome and the sites have been beautiful!! I am in love with Thailand
and I am sad to be leaving here in 2 days, but we WILL be back!!
I think that is all I have for now,
Love you and miss you,
Keyla 😊
