Hi!!! Hope everyones ok, thaks for the messages guys! Well.. picking up from where we left off. We awoke at 3 am with our pink alarm clock piercing our ears. Made our way down stairs without a fuss, crazily Bangkok hadnt come to a complete stand still and we flagged down a taxi within two minutes. After a good argument about the 'meter being broken' we got him to switch it on. He tried god bless hi, to get us to agree to 300 baht because 'thats what metre will say!' .. lo and behold it cost 160! It was a taxi ride of DOOM. 130 MPH all the way to the Don Meung airport and I had come to peace with the fact I was about to die, paul just laughed at me; 'Tell it ... read more

I am sitting on the largest bed in the entire universe right now. This would comfortably sleep 4 adults. I have never seen a bed so large. It reminds me of the bed that 10 of my friends including myself once snuggled in Fire Island. Today was quite the day. I started off with breakfast then I hung out on the beach. A storm started and it knocked out the electricity at my hotel. As soon as the rain stopped I lugged my luggage down 4 flights of stairs in order to get a taxi to the airport before the rain started again. I drove through about 2 feet of water. I made it safe and sound to the airport (a 15 minute drive). I even got on an earlier flight out of Koh Samui. This ... read more

I arrive at my hotel in Koh Samui. There are many hotels on this island. With the help of a friend (thanks RKY), I narrowed down staying in Chaweng Beach. Hotels range from $30/night up to $1,000/night. I knew this was my vacation within a vacation… so I went for the top rated B&B in the area… cost is $50/night. Basically I wanted a clean hotel on the beach. That is certainly what I found. As I do in every other place when I first arrive, I put my bag in my room and take off. It was almost 9pm so I didn’t want to go too far as I am by myself and in Thailand! I walked what I assume is the main road in the area. Every 3rd store is a massage place. There ... read more

I thought I would finally get round to typing up one of the final blogs from our travels! Following the washout that was our first week in Ko Samui, we started the second week hoping and praying that the weather would improve and we could do some sightseeing and sunbathing. Friday 5th November brought no rain, but also no sunshine, so we spent yet more time at the villa with Rachel job hunting and me working on some things for Emerald Seas Villa before we decided that we would head down to the small village of Bo Phut and look around the food market. It was a relatively small but lively market compared to the huge sweaty markets of Bangkok, but interesting nonetheless. We made a few little purchases to stock up the villa kitchen and ... read more

Our first week in Ko Samui was literally a wash out! A fierce storm struck the island, with gale force winds, electrical storms and torrential rains which brought a deluge of water to this tropical island and left many areas flooded. 48 hours without electricity, phone lines and internet down, shops running short on stock, the car running low on petrol, the list of problems we faced went on and on! Thankfully, us and our friends the Blooms, managed to survive and make it through the storm. With resourcefulness, cooking by torchlight, the help of a local boatman and the iron will and abilities of Robert 'Captain Fantastic' Bloom (and his assistant Marvellous Stu) we were able to keep our heads above water and lived to see another day! The Blooms had kindly said we could ... read more

We headed off to the neighbouring island of Koh Samui. We stayed on Chaweng Beach which, after being on a much more deserted island for quite a while, suprised us with its over- development on the beach and main streets. Although much busier and more commercialised here, we knew we would enjoy the increased variety of entertainment, restaurants and bars. We took a tour round the island with a local guide who was enthusiastic about what we would see. We started at the temples on the island and our first stop was the "Jao Mae Kuan Im", or Chinese Lady Monk, located in the far northeast of Koh Samui island - the temple is over 100 years old and helped us to better understand the differences between Chinese and Thai Buddhism. We also visited the 'Big Buddha' ... read more

Okay, so maybe it wasn't a great investment after all. As Mikey kept Luke and Scott (and possibly every other travel in the resort) being sick the next day was a day of 'naps'. Where Luke had seen better days also, Luke and Mike took the day to recharge their battery's as Scott spent the day on the beach drinking his beloved green fanta! With not much to report, the boys did manage to go for some food and a little walk in the evening. Mikey took this opportunity to pull the score back to 3-3 on the T-Strip! On the return home it seemed a few others wanted to travel with us ... We were welcomed to a dog asleep on our door step, God only knows how many beatles on Mikey's bed and a ... read more

So the last time i wrote, we had dragged alan to the hospital to ensure he wouldnt actually die. after getting his meds, he brightened up quite a bit, problem solved we all thought. we were wrong! that night alan said he wasnt feeling well (again) and headed back to the apartment, only for us to find him shaking violentaly and being sick, not a good sight! By now he had alreadt decided in his head he had had enough and wanted to go home, so the next day, two out of the 14 weeks in, he arranged travel back home. the rest of us however decided upon the highly original trip to maya bay ( where the beach was filmed ). yes it makes you feel like a typical tourist, but the film no doubt ... read more

Sorry its taken a little while to write, as you can imagine we have all been pretty busy! Please note, with Al back in Plymouth, this is the travel story of Mikey and Luke only. With Al being the ex writer maybe Luke and Mike can do a bit of a better job! Okay, as Al left for Plymouth, England the rest of the boys got ready for 2 days of relaxation/detox on Koh Samui. This would allow Mikey to chill out before leaving for Koh Tao (to get his diving certificate) and give Luke and Scotty's livers a chance to repair before the madness of Koh Pang-an and the full moon party! The 7 hour ferry ride to Samui was made easier where the boys met a few musicians from Newcastle and it was founded ... read more

The rain has cleared and the sun is even threatening to come out, maybe Thailand isnt so bad after all. Went on an island tour yesterday with some mad middle aged German woman who started accusing our Thai tour guide of having 'poor English' and he should be better educated to tour operate...'cringe' Met some local wildlife - monkeys and elephants to be precise. The monkeys are trained to collect coconuts from the trees and made me a cocunut milkshake which was nice of him... Also met a dead monk. apparently he died 50 years ago but his body didnt decompose so to preserve his dignity they put him in a gold see through case and stuck some raybans on him for all to see. will have photos up soon - bizzare. Away to start a ... read more
