Day 20 and we caught the ferry to a very overcast Ko Samui! The beach resort is really lovely and we're again right on the beach with amazing views and some very appealing sunbeds...if only the sun would come out!!! We ventured into town and purchased some bracelets and earrings (Camilla and Becky lost theirs to the ocean!!) and then headed back via the beach to shower ready for what we were hoping would be another good evening in Thailand...It started well we had an amazing dinner, Camilla and Elin had stir-fried shark whilst Becky stepped up her game to tackle the red curry! But upon leaving the restaurant it came very apparent that Lamai beach's clientele is more of the older male gender in search of slightly different entertainment of the local female variety!! So ... read more

We took a short 'island hop' from Koh Phangan to Koh Samui by boat which only took about an hour. When we arrived we went passed many beautiful hotels and restaurents until we arrived at ours...first impressions: very cracked little concrete road and car park surrounded by a lot of little 'terrace flats', not exactly the same to what the brochure/leaflet had shown. However, we found that the room was clean and tidy with A/C and the bar and restaurent served good food and had a live band on every other night plus the beach was only a 5 minute walk away. So overall, not too shabby! ·Over the next few days we pretty much glued our selves to the beach and enjoyed (and suffered from) the extremely hot weather. Needless to say i got sunburnt ... read more

Oh Thailand! We had forgotten how much we love this country. After flying into Bangkok (been there done that) we decided we would head straight down to Ko Pha Ngan (also been there but need to do it again). We took the overnight sleeper train down to the connecting ferry which would take us to Ko Pha Ngan. In all we had a surprisingly easy pain-free trip from Rome, traveling for about 48hrs before we arrived at our first destination, Bottle Beach, Ko Pha Ngan. Bottle Beach is the most isolated beach on the north eastern coast of the island and most accessible by long-tail boat. There are only 4 places you can stay at on the beach, the creatively named Bottle Beach 1, 2 or 3 or Smile Bungalows. We chose BB1 and got ourselves ... read more

16th September 2010 Again I had a lie in today! We were leaving to go to Bangkok around midday so we had to morning to do what we wanted. We got some breakfast and then decided to get a pedicure from the beauty salon down our road. It cost us 200 Baht which is about £4! We packed up out bags and check out of the hostel for 12.30pm. A mini bus picked us up and took up to the port where we were getting to ferry back to the main land. On the other side we picked up a coach which took us to the Train station for the overnight train to Bangkok. We boarded the train around 6.20pm and we weren’t arriving in Bangkok until at least 6am. The train was very basic and ... read more

15th September 2010 I had a nice lay in this morning and planned to have a chilled day by the beach. Me and Alanna headed out for some breakfast about 10.30 and then hit the beach. The beach was so pretty; we had white sand and clear blue sea. We spent a few hours at the beach and then went to The Loft for some lunch and to use their wifi. After lunch we wondered around town and i did a bit of shopping to make myself feel better after the day i had yesterday. I brought a few bits, didn’t go too mad as my bag was already over flowing! Me, Alanna and Jamila got some dinner and went to see a Cabaret show - it was very armature but it was free so what ... read more

Chaweng Beach Resort, Koh Samui..... In its day we think that Chaweng Beach Resort would have been very nice but it is in need of a lot of maintenance, just basic stuff too but most of all it came down to cleanliness, or lack of it!. Whilst we know it wasn’t 5-6 star it doesn’t matter what it is, there is no excuse for lack of cleanliness……. The first unit Dave and I got put in did not have a balcony and when we complained they said they could move us to one after 2 nights, fair enough. We were there for 2 weeks so wanted a balcony, our friends Paul and Annie had one, we felt we should have had the same. Well, the first unit had twin basins in the bathroom, one could not ... read more

Day 58 Bangkok to Koh Samui (Mon 30th Aug) Well, as mentioned previously, it was a rather early start today. The coach was to depart at 0500, so I made sure to be back at the hotel by 0415, in order to shower and pack before leaving. Actually I made it in just before Helen got up so it worked out well. We made it down to the lobby in plenty of time, only to discover that Matt and Norma were the only others there. Turned out Stephen and Tomas were just running a little late, Lynn slept in, Heather was being sick after her big night, Ali was packing and when she was phoned, she told Matt that Jo never came home. A little bit of chaos to start our morning off right. So Matt, ... read more

A quick update on whats been happening in the past 3 days (this blog will be no-where near as long as the last novel pete decided to write). Wednesday 25th: We bailed on going to the full moon party, thunderstorms/lightening doesnt make that sketchy boat ride sound too appealing, so instead we hit Chewang beach for some beers and buckets. Just off the main road we found the Viking Bar. There we got 4 buckets at 130 baht each, so we drank those, played a few games of connect 4. From there we moved on to a great club, where i seemed to find myself a girlfriend, but i let her down gently and drank the night away. Thursday 26th: The best way to check out the whole of Koh Samui is to hire a car, ... read more

So our first crack at writing a ripping yarn for all the kool kats out there. Eagerly Monday Morning after a HUGE Sunday at the footy and on the beers in Melbourne we rose to catch our flight. Five hours sleep goes a long way when your on Holidays, so we were all buzzing. All went smoothly through Melbourne Airport until Kelly reached customs who said "you may not be going anywhere" due to some issues surrounding her citizenship. Luckily for us immigration were fantastic and allowed us to pass through - I then needed to change my undies.... 12 hours later we touched down in Phuket, met a toothless taxi driver who seemed to love greeny the ranga, I did a deal and on our merry way we were. Old mate dropped us at the ... read more

We arrived in Phuket at 12:20am after a traumatic journey from Chiang Mai (I was sick again). Really sad to leave Chiang Mai, and it wasn't helped by the grossness of our airport hotel in Phuket - easily the worst hotel we have stayed in so far, we were really glad it was just for one night. The next morning we transferred to the Shanti Lodge, which was absolutely gorgeous, like an oasis full of beautiful plants and a big clean pool. Unfortunately Shanti turned out to be an oasis in more ways than one. Phuket is (as we now know) a place infamous for its crap public transport, and in low season if you don't ride a motorcycle you are more or less stuck. Taxis are available, but not as readily as elsewhere (if you ... read more
