The last I left off, I was at the border between Cambodia and Thailand. We were next to a bus depot that contained several large luxurious busses as well as some old, covered pickup trucks with long wooden benches lining each side. Nobody in the group knew whether our prayers would be answered with passage onto the newer bus or if we were going to spend the next 6 hours to Bangkok in the back of a pickup truck. I should mention here that what was advertised on the tickets bought in Cambodia was a big tour bus, not the minivan from hell or a covered pickup truck. Needless to say, when we were ushered into the back of the pickup truck our hopes for getting some sleep and having a relaxing trip into Bangkok quickly ... read more

Welcome to our next exciting installment.......Thailand (well, exciting for us at least!) We arrived at in Thailand after a loooong day. What was supposed to be a few hours travel (the flight from HCMC to Bangkok is 1.5 hours) turned into an all day affair after our flight was cancelled. We had to hang around the airport for 6 hours (not the nicest airport.....) before getting on the plane and sitting on the tarmack for another hour. All in all we were in transit for about 11 hours including cabs etc. To rub salt into the wound, when we arrived at our hotel they had had a fire in the lobby and we had to be transferred to another hotel!! Oh, and did we mention the $45US excess baggage charge......... thanks to Rach's shopping Anyway, enough ... read more

You would think after the last blog that would be it right???? Well not sure if it is Buddha, Vishnu, Allah, or who but someone is MAd at US!!! Our day started with us getting up to go back to the old hotel that caught on fire and get our luggage, yeah no clothes, toothbrushes, nothing for all of yesterday, anyways go back there to climb up 16 flights, since the elevator is not running and get our stuff, Everything is covered in the residue left over after the smoke is settled, not nice!!!! But that is it......oh no... Thinking the worst is over we headed to this shopping mall to get some last minute things for the plane tomorrow morning at 8:40am. Everything going ok, when we are getting ready to pay the taxi ... read more

OK so this is it, the final blog... I now have a passport in desperate need of renewal due to the lack of space for future stamps, and enough air miles to get me to the moon and back, so maybe it is time to return home. Over the past 6 months I have had a great time, and I have been lucky enough to have been able to celebrate 3 New Years which has definitely been an added and unexpected bonus. I have also been fortunate enough to have met many incredible people, both local to the area I was travelling in and also fellow travellers, many of whom have had a tremendous affect on me and have been very inspirational. I have experienced many different cultures, religions, beliefs, and learnt an awful lot about ... read more

Oh what a disastewr, spent my biurhtday travelling with the intent of going straight to Kanchanaburi, but no this was not to happen. As we got off the bus to change onto the next oine my bag strap broke which was totally unfixable. So we decided to stay ion Bngkok until Friday when Andys sister arrived for the weekend. We got heavily ripped off by the taxidriver but styed in a nioce guest house with ari conditioning, what a treat in the 38 degrees of Bangkok! on the Friday we had to check i to the hotel Victoria booked us into and to our surprise and delight it was the same on we stayed in when we first got here. The lift lady was happy to say the least, i think she had a crush on ... read more

Well this is not the last one, i will summarize the trip once i get home and can reflect, but this is a little taste of how things can go bad if one things goes bad!!!!! the other day we try to book this nice hotel to spend the last few days in Thailand...they were supposed to get our plane tickets sent from Canada and that should be no problem right???? Well we get there a week before to drop off our bags before we head south to an island and pick up our tickets to know they arrived in Bangkok. Well there was a merry mix up and our reservation got cancelled, so there we were no rooms, and ofcourse they have no tickets for us, it happens that they refused our tickets two days ... read more

Our intention after crossing into Thailand was to head up to the island of Ko Samui. We had flagged down a Songathaew to get us to the bus station, and although the guy went via one of his “friend's” travel agencies where they tried to sell us some massively overpriced tickets, we got to the station in the end and the tickets we bought apparently included the ferry across to the island as well which was a result! Ko Samui was, unfortunately, not as beautiful as the Perhentians and the village was set up for tourists like a mini Tenerife. We did have a great time there though, as we went "big game fishing" - or simply fishing as its known in the rest of the world! Having never been fishing before, I was quite pleased ... read more
