Geo: -38.0592, 145.409Well, we've been home a month today. It feels like yesterday and forever since we dragged ourselves through customs in Melbourne and headed straight for Cardinia Medical Centre. It's disturbing how quick you readjust to your routine and reality after such an adventure. You get a day or two before it feels like you never left.South America was never a priority travel destination for me. Not sure why. I guess I didn't know a lot about it or many people who had been there. Having loved Africa so much, I think I kind of expected similar demographics, some beautiful natural scenery, wild animals and some culture shock. It wasn't too far from what I expected. We certainly got a fair taste of the continent and took in a lot of experiences across the 7 ... read more

Geo: -38.0592, 145.409Well, it's a month today since we finished our honeymoon around South America. A perfect opportunity for us to reflect on what an awesome and memorable experience it's been. I asked Natalie to consider what her top 10 memories were. In her own words, here they are as a countdown from 10 to 1. 10. Parque de Aves (Bird Park) Iguazu Even if the rain was pouring, and I had wet boots for days after, this park was amazing. The birds were still happy to greet us, and walking through the aviaries is an experience in itself. 9. SkyTower Auckland Just because the majority of our trip was in South America doesn't mean I love Auckland any less. The waterfront and skytower and definitely worth a visit. Must visit the skytower at night for ... read more

Geo: -37.8143, 144.96340 days. So often, holidays seem to fly by quicker than we would like. On the flight home, we often ask ourselves where did the time go? It felt like just yesterday we were setting off on this trip. For this trip, our honeymoon, that hasn't been the case. It feels like we've been gone for ages! That's not to say we haven't had an amazing time or our marriage is already on the ropes! Maybe its because we covered so much distance? Maybe because we took so many flights? Maybe because we packed in so much variety? Maybe we both really missed our jobs? I suppose it could be a variety of factors but we certainly appreciated the duration of this trip. That's not to say were stoked its over, but nor are ... read more

Geo: -33.4691, -70.642Its been a fantastic honeymoon. We've really enjoyed exploring South America. Today, wasnt exactly an amazing send off. It was probably one of the worst days of the trip as a stand alone day. We woke for our final morning in South America at 8.45am. What better way to wake than watching Arsenal live in a comfy bed? Wrong. A 3-3 draw with West Ham after leading by 2 was predictable yet painful. We then began the joyous task of packing our bags for a midday checkout. Our flight home via Auckland didnt depart Santiago until 12.50am tonight, so we tried to consider changes of clothes in our day luggage. The frustrating thing about today is between noon and midnight, we were basically homeless. We were able to leave our luggage at reception for later ... read more

Geo: -33.2328, -70.2122What a memorable way to spend our last full day in South America. I must admit, that when I booked this tour a couple days ago, I didn't know much about the El Yeso National Park which we were bound for, nor the hot springs in the area. Despite our comfy bed, I again struggled to get more than a couple hours sleep at a time, still feeling significantly sick with some sort of head cold. Todays tour kicked off straight after breakfast, around 9am. We were using the same tour group from yesterday, Servitour Tours. Todays guide, Daniel was a bundle of enthusiasm and knowledge. We weren't alone today either, but in a group of 5 with a couple of American ladies in their 50s and a Spanish/American guy named Carlos in his ... read more

Geo: -33.3266, -71.4032You love wine. You spend all morning wretchedly vomiting. You love Chilean Wine in particular. You feel like death. You are in Chile. You have a wine tasting tour booked for today. You couldn't keep your breakfast down this morning. What do you do? Well its not like you really have any options. You suck it up, get on the tour and drink wine. You try to enjoy the experience as much as possible. We were picked up at the hotel by Sebastian of Servitour Tours at 8.30am. We had wanted to go to the famous Mendoza Wine District across the border in Argentina, but turned out it was 5-6 hours drive rather than 2-3 hours as wed hoped. So instead, we picked this tour to visit Casablanca, just 45 minutes out of Santiago, ... read more

Geo: -33.4691, -70.642Well, I'm sick. Minimal sleep and rest over the last 10 days or so has taken its toll. Finally relaxing yesterday and letting my guard down has led to a head cold/ infection. I was up half of this morning throwing up. As a result, its been a slow start to our first full day based out of Tinto Boutique Hotel. We snuck in for an included breakfast at 9.30. Ham and cheese omelettes and scrambled eggs on offer were delicious, though I couldn't keep much down. We returned to the room to rest and plan our last few days in South America. We booked two tours for the next and final two days of our honeymoon, first, tomorrow a wine tour of Casablanca and second, on Friday a tour to Embalse El Yeso ... read more

Geo: -33.4691, -70.642I swear, a guy with a hammer has just been following me around South America. He managed to find me again at our airport hotel in Santiago, kicking off hammer time around 6am. We rolled out of bed at 9.30, just in time for our breakfast. After a simple feed, we returned to our room to kill time until checkout at 1pm. We booked a cab at reception to transfer us to our final hotel, Tinto Boutique Hotel in the Bellavista neighborhood in downtown Santiago.Half hour later we were checked into a very cozy and comfortable room, with a soft giant bed, large TV, air conditioner and jacuzzi, right by the pool. We wandered down the street to a place called White Rabbit for lunch around 2pm. Amazing food, beer and service; we shared ... read more

Geo: -33.4691, -70.642Natalies cough keeps getting worse, and I haven't had a remotely proper sleep for over a week. Peru has probably been the most exciting experience of the honeymoon, but definitely the least comfortable. Were both tired and exhausted and Natalie is sick. After the amazing Grand Finale of Machu Picchu yesterday, were both hoping to relax a while in Santiago. We were awake at 6, due to various noises (a pulsating sound, some hammering and loud voices) and up around 9. Most of our group had already parted and it was time to say goodbye to our guide Will, who has been great and certainly helped us have a great time in Peru. His final recommendation was to go to a place called Jacks for breakfast. We had plenty of time to head there ... read more

Geo: -13.52, -71.99Its not hard to see why Machu Picchu is not only a 'Wonder of the World' but arguably one of the most hyped and famous global travel destinations. We woke this morning around 4.45 for a 5am breakfast and 5.30 bus ride to the wonder. If not for Nats coughing, I might have finally had a few hours sleep. Poor Nat, has picked up a nasty chesty cough over the last few days. One would speculate the altitude we've been to would be an agitating factor to her asthma.By 5.30 we were crammed into buses for a 30 minute drive up a steep, winding road into the mountains. Machu Picchu gets rain over 200 days a year, so we were hoping for the best. Early signs were pretty encouraging, scattered clouds and mist with ... read more
