had a pretty crazy week in bangkok, first few days were a bit boring, but theres plenty to do and as soon as I hooked up with some other single travellers its been awsome. getting rather drunk nearly every night, dancing on the podium, breaking up fights, fending off the transvestite prostitutes, pretending to be swedish all night, breaking the heart of my gay hotel receptionist, sleeping all day, falling over in the toilets, having emotional breakdowns over the death of john lennon, finding new cocktails, shopping like crazy, watching the sun come up over the river, learning to dance thai style with the girls from the veggie restaraunt, improving my thai, being searched for drugs by the police (did he really have to feel my crotch?), eating pad thai, drinking mohitos, and generally trying to ... read more

Hey everybody! Ahhh, it feels like forever since I updated this thing... So much has happened since the last posting (whenever that was!)... We made it to the National Park of Koh Ang Thong alright, and despite the facts that 1. we had the crappiest bungalows of the whole trip, 2. I got seasick and 3. three of our friends got dengae fever (yeah, more about that later) - it was alright. For the three days we mostly layed around in hammocks and talked about all the memories made on the trip. There were also some really exciting things such as the hike to the viewpoint - even though the point was only 500m up, the hike was unbelievably sweaty and gross! After spending 40 days in Thailand you kind of get used to the feeling ... read more

Well here it is Ladies & Gents, sorry it took me so long! It’s been quite busy this past week. While I still have not seen any of the Bangkok sites, I did travel a few hours out to visit the bridge over the river Kwai, yes like the movie title. The bridge was built by POW during WWII, as part of a long railroad from Burma, now called Myanmar, and Siam, today’s Thailand. While the bridge is mostly known for its strategic importance during the war, in Thailand it is mostly remembered for the thousands of young men who died at the hands of the Japanese and of various diseases…not exactly a happy story, but I thought I might share it while I still have your attention =) Incidentally, the bridge is very small, not ... read more

I wrote 'The End' on my last travelblog, but that's not strictly true anymore. Two months after being at home in England I flew over to California to live with Scott. I worked for a year whilst going through all the red tape to get into University to take a teaching degree. As soon as I graduated it was time to go travelling again so instead of 'The End' this is now 'part two'! The difference this time is that a lot of our family members and friends will join us for part of the trip as Scott and I are going to get married. In Bali. We are back in Bangkok, our first destination. We have actually achieved quite a lot in these last few days. Within hours of landing in the country, we had ... read more

Hello!!!!! We arrived Saturday afternoon after an easy journey to head to Sukumvit where we had prebooked a couple of nights in a nice hotel (Well, nice in comparison to what we would later encounter!). Also interesting was the amount of pick up joints in the surrounding area. There seemed to be a particularly popular one right next door infact, which had a steady flow of Ferang (Thai pet name for foreigners) coming in and out with a little something on their arm. The following day Martin decided to get his hair cut, which also involved a full body massage and I had a foot massage which was amazing. I left there feeling like a new woman, as I also had the full body treatment. All that for a meer 10 pound- wouldnt get that in ... read more

HONEST!! You may remember we faked a funny picture with Steve Irwin's image at his zoo... BUT this one is for real!!!Today we went to lunch with our friend Mahitorn and guess who came to lunch? MISS UNIVERSE! Her name is Natalie Glebova, she represented Canada in the contest this year. She is (as you would expect) very beautiful and she was extemely nice to us. We were the only people at the Dusit Thani Hotel Restuarant when she arrived to have photos made. She actually asked us if we would like to take some pictures with her. We still can't believe our good luck! ... read more

Hello from Bangkok! As promised to many of you, I am going to try to keep some sort of travel log while traveling in Thailand and Cambodia =) While this one might be a little longer, I intend the following ones to be shorter … although one never knows with me, especially if I end up writing like I speak…which you all know is a lot =) Well, the flight was 23 hours of flying time and, well, many more of travel time - I actually still don’t know what day of the week it is since Bangkok is 12 or 11 hours ahead and I have lost track of how many hours of layover there have been between DC, LA, and Tokyo….while approaching Japan we flew over the “international date line” - which I had ... read more

Nothing like i imagined at all!!. I know alot of people love this city but not my cup of tea at all. It is virtually impossible to navigate yourself anywhere at all on foot for the risk of dying from pollution or darn right frustration in this huge concrete sprawling mess of a city. So the only other option is to take a tuk tuk. Great fun when you first sit in one of these things and go zooming around the traffic whilst inhaling the brunt of bangkoks vehicle emissions, but 2 words describe my experience of a tuk tuk and they are R i p O f f ok they are cheap but the drivers just do not want to take you to where you want to go. .. The usual speil we recieved was ... read more

Returning to Banglamphu from my all night vigil, I stop by Hualamphong train station to buy my ticket to Northern Thailand (Chiang Mai)... The goverment tourist employees spot you immediately as you enter the station and are quite helpful with times and details but subsequently lead you to a travel agent rather than directly to the ticket counter...."Come in, sir", he called out in a commanding tone - as I excused myself and sat down at a bench outside the a coffee shop next to the Travel agent..."Later... I need to plan now"...He tried a few times but I just sat ignoring him and then when made my way to book my tickets.... The train station is near china town so I took this opportunity to see Wat Traimit (or the "Temple of the Golden Buddha) ... read more
