Geo: 6.92747, 79.8484We had two days at sea between Phuket and Chennai. We continued to go to the quizzes and one time we managed a win. It was on a tie-breaker where we were asked to guess the age of our hostess. She is a tiny, French-Canadian called Karoline. I guessed 25, one other guessed 21 and a third 29. She was actually 27 so gave prizes to both myself and the third group. I like the way they always tell us we are competing for fabulously average prizes!! We won a key-ring with a light built in but at least here they give one each.Fletcher also entered the paper plane competition. The object of this was to make two paper planes and then try to fly them through a hoop held above one of the ... read more

Geo: 6.92747, 79.8484Just arrived in Adelaide (oops Colombo Sri Lanka) same odd 2.5 hour time difference. It's wet and hot but the flight and the crew were amazing. Definitely an up an coming big player in the international market. The cabin manager gave me a cognac after dinner which was lovely but wanted to ply me with me. No way, I needed water and sleep to adjust ongoing time changes. No photos to really show as its dark, wet and humid. Couple of hours and it will be time to put on our woollies when we land in horrible Paris. Pic from lounge.... read more

We had quite the relaxing morning. We did not have to meet our guide, Vijitha until 10:30. Lynn was up first and got ready and walked down to the beach. Chester and Kirsten got ready soon after and went straight to breakfast. We were all ready for the visit to the Elephant Orphanage. Well, the 90 minute drive took 2.5 hours. Yikes. We are in a nice van, however the roads are brutal once you drive into the interior of the country. We took side, dirt roads that were all under construction because of drainage issues. The Elephant Orphanage was pretty cool. They have over 80 rescued elephants of all ages. We saw the older ones walking around eating, saw the ones that have behavior and aggression issues chained up to trees, and then we got ... read more

We made it. With a few hours slept, a few quick wake ups and sleeping like ninjas, we made it safe and sound without anything being stolen or drugs being slyly smuggled into our bags! Can't say much for the comfort nor the size of the beds but we didn't wake up to grumpy. We were even greeted by a group of soy dogs ( for some of us the first groups we had ever seen). Carrying on the train we had the Train conductor meet us to put our bed backs to seats, meaning us tallies could sit up straight again. We arrived into Chiang Mai as the sun was rising and were greeted by a huge swarm of taxi drivers all wanting our business. By now we are getting used to the custom of ignoring ... read more

So I've been in Sri Lanka for 12 days and im 2 1/2 weeks into my round the world trip. Firstly, I can’t believe I've been travelling for such a short amount of time. I have done so much - more than any holiday that it feels like I left Scotland months ago. I write this drinking tea and allowing the cool of the room fan to try and calm my blazing sunburn. My friends said I’ll come back Skinny and brown. Well if the last few weeks are anything to go by I'll be coming back fatter and burnt! Now before I get lectures about making sure to apply plenty of sun cream I would like to add that I am trying. But the heat in Sri Lanka, coupled with the extreme humidity is ensuring ... read more

I can't believe I'm still awake. On the second leg of our journey from Dubai to Columbo I was so tired I felt sick, but the sunshine and sights since arriving here have put me in a great mood, although now I'm sat in bed in our lovely hotel room I can feel my eyelids start to droop. Better get on with it then! The flights over were fine. On time and no turbulence. I watched The Imitation Game and Hunger Games Mockingjay Part 1 and started listening to Bill Bryson's audiobook The Thunderbolt Kit, which I was really enjoying. Owen also watched the Imitation Game, some film about Nick Drake and that new Dumb and Dumber. Both planes were full but we were fine and - most importantly - ... read more

... read more
