We cant feel our butts but we made it! Laos here we are. Starting in Luang Prabang where the boat drops us off we thought was a good idea. As we were talking to people on the slow boat however we began to understand the corrupt nature of this country The first of many scams started with where the slowboat dropped us off. Even though there are piers all through the city, we were dropped off at a pier with a hill, which from the bottom looked like everest, and we were greeted by what was later described to us as the "tuk tuk mafia". Apparently due to government standards (according to the tuk tuk drivers anyway ) the boat now had to drop us at a pier 10km from town. Not only is there nothing ... read more

The slow boats are an experience for sure. We arrived thinking we would be crammed into a mini boat but it actually turned out we had a bit of space. The seats were ripped out of a bus and the boat made from what looked like old weather boards was about 20m's long. We came prepared with peanut butter rolls? Brought them on the side of the road this was the beginning of so many peanut butter rolls to come. Our first part of the slow boats took 9 hours there is pretty much nothing to do except look at the river bank but it was ever changing, we were even lucky enough to see some wild elephants grazing by the water ?. We saw a number of children jumping off rocks and a few flashing ... read more

The bus took around three hours we hadn't booked a place to stay so casually stalked a couple and ended up at the nicest hostel we think we will ever see on this trip! Only a few months old everything was brand new it even had a swimming pool! Another JABM success. The town is well know for its white temple which has been built by a billionaire who spent more than 4 billion dollars of his own money on the project as he feels it will give him eternal life under their religion Buddhism. You are met with a pit of out reached hands and a bridge through the middle this symbolises over coming greed. The rest of it is pretty spectacular covered in millions of tiny perfectly cut pieces of glass a mosaics dream! ... read more

Here we go..... #3. Woke up to Josh with his head between his legs. Good one, Anna managed to pass it on. But anyway...breakfast at our local (the downstairs cafe , we think they almost knew our orders off by heart) and before we knew it our guide was outside looking for us. So we quickly finished our toast, put our coffees in takeaway cups and headed for the van. Baanchang Elephant Park here we come. A well known rescue park for elephants who are ready to retire or have been rescued from bad situations. All money paid for entry goes towards maintence of the park and feeding of the elephants. Josh managed to keep it in untill we arrived at the park then scurred away tothe toilet. We changed into some yolo looking clothes all ... read more

We made it. With a few hours slept, a few quick wake ups and sleeping like ninjas, we made it safe and sound without anything being stolen or drugs being slyly smuggled into our bags! Can't say much for the comfort nor the size of the beds but we didn't wake up to grumpy. We were even greeted by a group of soy dogs ( for some of us the first groups we had ever seen). Carrying on the train we had the Train conductor meet us to put our bed backs to seats, meaning us tallies could sit up straight again. We arrived into Chiang Mai as the sun was rising and were greeted by a huge swarm of taxi drivers all wanting our business. By now we are getting used to the custom of ignoring ... read more

We made it to the land of Thai after freaking at Kuala Lumpur airport as we watched the rest of the people waiting for our plane pull out their visas, but we played it cool and before we knew it we were bartering with our first taxi driver in a Shiney pink van. We greeted Michelle with our new friend real leather (Picture below!) we adopted him at the McDonald's in Kuala Lumpur airport and we have vowed to take him around the world. He's pretty chilled once you get to know him. Our hostel was right in the middle of sukimvit on a bustling side street, We waved down a Tuktuk and headed into Patpong the famous market street, josh was inundated with offers from lady boys but he politely declined. We sat down and ... read more

Although we are still living a pretty lavish life style with a roof top swimming pool, rain head shower 28 story's up and a TV, we feel as though we spent the day becoming pretty cultured. Started the day fresh with a family session of skipping and TRX (which the pro made look easy) got our sweat on which never ceased the entire day. Our first activity was to catch a train (careful not to put josh on the ladies only carriage) to the Batu Caves were we learnt our first lesson 'to research what your going to look at' we have since read up to find that it is place of prayer and sacrifice for the Indian and Hindu religion of Malaysia. 272 stairs and a pretty sweet looking sarong later we found our selfs ... read more

Oceania » Australia » New South Wales » Sydney » Sydney Airport May 3rd 2015

Our love hate relationship with airports begins at "Sidney" - according to LAN airways that is the correct spelling and I think closer to its correct pronounciation. Once the tears finished flowing and we made it through the departure gates we headed for our first set of wings, making it through customs without a second glance (but not without our first family selfie). Our flight began with the plane crew flippin' the bird at their mates coming off the previous flights, and listening in on a hippies conversations about 'Abdoriginals' and her interactions with their culture on her previous visit to Australia. We have also bumped into an old Asian man with a straight cut mullet and we sat next to a lady who wore her sun hat and sunglasses for the entire flight, how disappointing ... read more
