Asia » Indonesia » Bali » Kuta July 10th 2017

So here we are in Bali. I sensibly went to bed on first night or that may have been the beers so I didn't get to see the Taylor clan arrive, which is a great shame given that Chris fell in the hotels koi fishpond just before greeting Chloe drenched. I take a walk to the vape shop to get supplies and then have the arduous task of crossing the road, something l leant in Vietnam. Just step out and let 6 lanes of traffic go around you. Next it's off to Kuta beach where 4 take up surfing and Josh buys a genuine Rolex. Yeah sure. Not sure what we would think of Bali but so far loving it.... read more

Geo: -33.8671, 151.207After some kerfuffle at the hotel, including a leaking fridge we all head down to darling harbour for a few drinks and then a fantastic tapas. Sydney puts on an amazing electrical storm and huge downpour leaving the skyline almost invisible. It was a balmy evening for sure.Rob, Chris and I go the the slip inn on Sussex for a few more and it's here that we get the news that Stalin is in the vets. Jason & mum made the call to take him to the vets and so Chris and I change our flights to get home and make a decision.... read more

Geo: -37.8143, 144.963Apollo bay to Melbourne.Warning, koalas crossing. Warning, kangaroos next 3km. Danger of cliff fall. Beware the rip. At no bloody point did it say "beware wind burn" Anyway Apollo bay was stay in, get a few bevvies and a Chinese takeaway. Yummy It's an early start today and the Victorian weather is well....as expected really.First stop today is Kennett river and a 5 minute walk from the GOR are koalas. We spot a least 6 so these tree hugging, sleeping clumps of fur.We then drive through Wye river onto Lorne where we see the sheer destruction of last months fires. The colours are eerily beautiful and already the silver ferns are sprouting.A short stop at Surfing great, Bells beach then it's non stop to Melbourne, 108km with some good Ol' Aussie road rage from ... read more

Geo: -38.7484, 143.67Port Fairy, Warrnambool and the Great Ocean RoadA short time wandering the small harbour showing off both its colonial and modern houses along the river before heading onto Warrnambool and middle island, the setting for the true story movie Oddball in which dogs are used to protect the fairy penguins. A must see for all ages. It's here that I actually remove my footwear to enter the southern ocean to explore the island. The Taylor paparazzi are out in force as I tie my laces together and sling my trainers around my neck.First stop on the GOR is the Bay of islands, followed by the bay of martyrs. Absolutely stunning scenery of nature doing its best at erosion. The colours and textures are breathtaking.Aardvark is the magic word if someone spots a photo op. ... read more

Geo: -38.3855, 142.237The big drive.Breakfast is followed by taxi drive into SADelaide (our new nickname for the city that never wakes) CBD to pick up our Hyundai iMax and it's ready to go. Everyone has there own sat Nav on but Chris advises I turn left which turns out to be a one way street in which I have a near miss with a bollard.Turn around and we're back on track. First stop is Murray bridge to get some supplies of water, chocolates, ice creams, crisps and soft drinks. All the necessary road trip fodder. Murray bridge has the first bridge to span the Murray.Other stops are relatively short toilets stops, one which meant a nearby bush as Chris and I experienced a sizeable rat grinning at us. The others thought it would be funny to ... read more

Geo: -34.9802, 138.518It's a 5am rise and then off to the new Qantas business lounge for breakfast.Arrived safely at 2.30pm, Adelaide being 2.5 hours ahead of Perth. Checked into the Oaks on Glenelg beach with ocean views. Chloe & Joshua manage to get stuck in the fire stairs and have to go to basement and walk all the way back around hotel to get back in. It's a beautiful sunny 33c. The girls go to the beach, the boys the gym for a quick workout. We then plan to get the tram into the CBD to have a look around. We caught the tram and arrived 45 minutes later, having forgotten it's Sunday and 5pm. Everything and I mean everything is shut! Oh well back to Glenelg after a nice long walk. The evening found us in search ... read more

Geo: -31.9522, 115.861So here we are all together in Perth, some jet lagged but all fine. Slight consumption of beers last night and a bottle of champers including a failed lighting of the BBQ. Thank god for a grill etc indoors.Time to make plans as today will be a warm 36c.first stop, Pinnaroo cemetary to see the kangas. Given the heat, they are very lazy and hidden in the shade. Us muppets on the other hand wander around in the blazing sunshine.next stop. Matilda bay for a well deserved refreshment and light lunch at the tea rooms. Josh is struggling a little, both from tiredness and heat. Bless him he soldiers on as we move onto kings park, take photos like everyone else that's been to see the amazing views and do the treetop walk and ... read more

Geo: 1.28941, 103.85What a fantastic 2 weeks. Have just arrived in Singapore from Colombo before heading home and arriving early hours of Monday. We have a hell of a lot of washing to do given that we found not find anywhere to do washing. Colombo airport was quite funny as we were not allowed on the bus to the plane. They gave us our own bus just for the 2 of us as we were in business. Not really a good carbon footprint.thats all folks, and thanks for the comments. Love from us 2... read more
