When we first got to bali we stayed in 2 diff hotels, Adi Dharma and Masa Inn. Oh and i would totally recomend the Masa Inn to anyone who wants to be centeral as it was right in the middle of Poppies 1. While looking for a more long term accom ($$cheaper) and on our last day a bali friend came through!!! We found a house half way between Kuta and Legian (more so Legian) which is kinda like a duplex but with 2 huge houses!!! and a pool in the middle, we are in the back house and the people who own it live in the front house with there 3 young boys, which Ax thinks is great sharing the pool with them. Our house has 5 bedrooms all with ensuites and a outdoor kitchen/dinning ... read more

Summary: Denpasar Airport to Kuta. Fat Yogi Hotel. Mamas German Restaurant. We arrived in Bali at 11pm Saturday night, November 21st 2009. The airport is not appealing, and the humidity hit us immediately. We got through customs, quite quickly and made it to the cab station outside. We got a cab to Kuta, Poppies Lane I, to our pre-booked hotel. We booked the hotel for one night only, and we were glad as Kuta and South Bali region is not our scene. We arrived at Poppies Lane, which is a small creepy alley in the middle of the night. We checked into Fat Yogi Hotel. It was descent, clean at least. With a balcony, and large shower with hot water. No A.C, but a sufficient fan. We went to a nearby wartel to use the phone, ... read more

Bali was my vacation trip. If I were to sum up the entire trip, I would describe it as a series of sunsets and sunrises. I left on a Wednesday afternoon, thereby missing quite a lot of class; but I ask myself, “how often am I in SE Asia?” That is how I justify skipping out during the middle of the week. Anyways, I traveled with two Americans (one being my roommate), two Scandinavians, and a Canadian. Bali is an Island that is part of Indonesia; the people down there are primarily Buddhist. They’re economy is based on tourism if you’re by the beach, or rice farming if you live inland. The currency in Bali is the Indonesian rupiah, 1 USD=10,000 INR. For this trip I tried to learn some useful phrases, this is what ... read more

I hope you didn’t think I perished in Bali, having left the blog hanging there weeks ago! I found a clean place to stay in Kuta, without airconditioning, but with two swimming pools (one was obviously not enough for the ambitious owners). There I caught up with a little sleep and set off to discover Kuta - still a hugely popular destination for Australian beach and party lovers who want to go abroad, but not too far. The weather was perfect, as were the warm sea and long sandy beach. There seemed to be no crowds, and the people were friendly enough. The population in Kuta was probably half Indonesian, half visitors, and most of the visitors were Australian. There were plenty of beach-salesmen - not selling beaches, but aggressively selling everything you could possibly want ... read more

Wow, it’s been a while since we’ve blogged! Sorry about that! We’ve been so on the go these past few weeks. Hmmm… let’s see… After beautiful Sideman and short stop at the Tirtha Gunga Water Palace, we set off to circumference the island of Bali, hoping for just as much amazing scenery that we saw in the first week. What we soon found is that every part of Bali is different, which makes sense considering the few volcanoes that have erupted in the recent past. They’ve left dry baron desert-like areas with little plant life and tons of black rock and dead shrubbery that are not as pleasing to the eye. Our next stop was Tulamben, a small town on the NE corner of Bali with nothing else to do but dive. Excited to explore the ... read more

Sorry about my tardiness again. Time just gets away on you when you are having a blast. I will keep this a short update for numerous reasons. The first being there is lots to catch up on. The second is that I do not feel well. Nov 3rd -Hung out at the guest house because everyone was super sore from the massive 9 km trek up the mountain. 2 of our group over exerted themselves and were puking much of the night. Sheryl's sister left and then we flew out to Jakarta at night and stayed in the shittiest and sketchiest guesthouse ever. Nov 4th - Changed guest houses, spent day just relaxing and exploring Nov 5th -Took public transport (big mistake) to China town and Old Town. neither very exciting though an interesting cultural experience ... read more

So Beash and I got back from our overnight trip to Nusa Lebangan a few days ago. It’s one of 3 tiny islands about an hour off the coast of Bali. We went with 12 friends from Max’s school. They are an easygoing, friendly bunch of people from England. It was pouring on the boat ride out and I got stung by a bee in the neck. As soon as we pulled up to shore the rains subsided and we all got situated, negotiating for hotels along the coast. The water along the shore was out of a dream. Crystal clear with teal tones, if you were neck high in the water you could easily your feet. Nusa Lebangan is known for amazing snorkeling so we hired a boat to take us out to a ... read more

Arrived at Kuta Townhouse around 1ish, after a little of a nightmare for the driver trying to navigate the gang between the two poppies! I’m not 100% sure he’d been down there before either as he is from Sanur. First impressions for me of the Townhouses......all I could think of what are all the rave reviews about? This was not really what I was expecting. Looking out from the reception desk I felt a little overwhelmed and not all that confident that I’d chosen well. After the spaciousness and relaxed feeling of the Tegal Sari, the Townhouses seemed very modern and closed in. There were a few sunbeds around the pool, but not a lot of people. During our stay we rarely saw many people around the pool. The apartments are ok themselves...maybe could be a ... read more

Ok.
