Ok, so this was the second to last stop of my travels and I was getting a bit sick of sight seeing, so I spent my 2 weeks in Bali mainly relaxing on the beach or at the pool, going out with friends, and learning to surf. I didn’t leave the resort town of Kuta for the whole 2 weeks. It was great. I staying in the town of Kuta which is on the west coast of Bali and is definitely one of the most popular/touristy places I have visited so far. There are lots of clubs and restaurants. including big names like the Hard Rock cafe. It was also completely packed with Australians as its so close to Oz. I stayed in a lovely hotel called Kedins. It was great location on the Poppies 1 ... read more

Back in KL, Charlotte left back to Honk Kong. And another friend of mine from Madagascar came to KL. So we decided to go to Bali. She's exactly like me, she goes where the wind 's bringing her. What an amizing trip, Bali! I've heard it's such a nice place. We took a plane from KL for 500 Ringit quiet cheap. We brought 250 Euro each for 2 weeks, it was largely enough! So we were on the road again.... read more

It seems since my time in Paradise, I've run into a little string of bad luck. Friday, the bombs went off at the Ritz and Marriott here in Jakarta, and thus far all the experts are pointing to Jemah Islamiah, a terrorist group with a long list of past episodes here in the country, including past bombing in Jakarta and Bali which together have killed hundreds. By all accounts, since the last major terrorist incidents in 2005, Jakarta has seen massive upturns in security operations, and has by and large gained a reputation as being fairly stable 10 years after the birth of its democracy. Not anymore. I had some trouble getting in touch with the Canadian Embassy here (something, unfortunately, that would play out again when I tried to get Swine Flu information from Foreign ... read more

I know I haven't posted in a while but thankfully I've been keeping notes in my journal so that I don't forget anything. I'm just going to write a short entry because frankly the weather outside is much nicer than the cold stale air in the Internet cafe. Last time I wrote we were leaving for Melaka from Kuala Lumpur. We really enjoyed Melaka. It was a lot quieter than KL and we got to experience a little bit more of the cultural side of Malaysia. We ate a lot of Nonya food (fusion between Malaysian, Chinese and Indian food) which was absolutely delicious. On the way to Meleka we also got to drive through some Malaysian suburbs that were totally bizarre. You know how in North America we try to mix up how subdivisions look ... read more

Saturday, July 18th We left Sanur early and headed for Kuta, Bali's party town, located to the west of Denpasar. If you're looking for a party scene with drunken college kids and surfers, this is the place for you. We, however, only came to drop off the Jimny and see what it's like before leaving Bali. Most importantly, it's conveniently close to the airport. On the way we took a wrong turn and ended up at a big surf shop. We both needed a pair of long trousers for NZ so we checked it out. Talita got very cheap jeans and Ferdi got a pair of cargo pants. Then we continued on to Kuta. We drove around and around and around, trying to orientate ourselves. Finally we got our bearings but then missed the turn-off because ... read more

So we are finally settling in Bali, our initial impression of it was not good but we are now loving it. After my last blog, we found the train/bus station in Jakarta, without getting run over or lost. It was an experience, we are noticing that everywhere we go people stare. We dont know if we have something on us or i dont know. They also seem to think that we look really funny. It is odd. On the way back from the station we went through the freedom square where there is a huge gold statue in the middle. It is all lit up at night which is really good. Choosing to walk along the side of the road and not follow for fear of being run over(big mistake) we made our way round the ... read more

I know it has been a while since our last blog. We have been so busy doing so many things and as well Niki has been a little sick. She is on antibiotics now so all is good. Where to start... Well our first day in Indonesia we flew into Bundung. It was a crazy city. Our taxi could barley drive through the streets. After we got our hostel figured out we thought that we should go to the train station to buy some tickets for the next day to go to Yogyakarta. When we arrived at the train station we found that we either had to leave in 2 hours our stay for 3 days. 3 days would have been a waste so we packed up our stuff and took a long 9 hour train ... read more

Landung Denpasar. ... read more
