We were in the queue for 20 minutes before I realised that we couldn't pay for our Indonesian Visa at Customs and behind waiting were scores of people holding their 50 US dollar visa receipts, too late he was calling us forward! We got away with it jumping the visa queue as Lynn waited with customs, close call and a bit stressful, but we arrived in Bali late in the dark to be taken to our Hotel in Kuta by "the transporter", more on him later. Kuta's a crazy place with narrow lanes called gang, we stayed in a quiet gang halfway between the beach and the main drag at a place called Unns. In Kuta everyone trys to sell sell sell, hawkers everywhere ,keeping an eye on where you go as its easy to get ... read more

Lots of people know that Bali is the island of the gods, especially after Julia Robert's movie 'Eat Pray Love' emphasized that. This time I'll just write about one beach on the island, Kuta, which probably is not the most beautiful beach there (considering the gorgeous Dreamland beach), but is definitely my favorite. Kiki and I had the chance to spend summer break in Indonesia last year, and that was my chance of going home after a year of living abroad. We flew from Zagreb directly to Bali (without heading to my hometown first) with two stopovers in Istanbul and Singapore. We did visit some stuff in Istanbul during the transit time, but I will write that on special section for Istanbul. Upon arrival, we took a cab from Denpasar airport to our hotel (after 24 ... read more

So its our last day in Bali tomorrow, were excited about moving on but we will miss Bali, its so nice and relaxing (apart from being dragged into all the little shops and being forced to buy everything!! lol) We have not really done a great deal, mainly relaxing in the pool or watching the sunsets on the beach. Hello dear friends! As you probably know, it was my birthday last Tuesday! Yeahhhh :) Attached you can see some pictures from the party the night before as well as from the actual day. It was the best birthday lately! I had a really great day with nice people. On 31st of May we went to a Mexican restaurant and then partied in Skygarden, Kuta, Bali. At 00.00 there was a big group of nice people with me on the roof of the club! On 1st of June I was woken up with a great chocolate cake and nice presents! Then went to a spa and end the day with a special dinner with special people. I had ordered Babi Guling - grilled whole pig! Later we chilled by the pool until 3 AM with a ... read more

We left Luang Prubang on a long journey to Bali that would take us on 3 flights and a night in Kuala Lumpar. Our first flight was on Laos airlines which we had not heard good things about but as the alternative was a 19 hour bus journey we chose the 45 minute flight. In the end all the stories we had heard of old Soviet planes being used was rubbish as it was a safe modern plane and a very comfortable flight. We arrived in Kuala Lumpar at midnight which was a shame as all we got to do was grab a quick bite to eat, sleep and then get up 6 hours later to head back to the airport for our next flight. On arriving in Bali I was instantly struck by how westernized ... read more

Greetings Blog Readers, Well, we have returned to our beloved Asia, this time in Bali, Indonesia. We decided to make the most of being close to Bali (3 hour flight) and check it out for 3 weeks before our New Zealand adventure begins. So, we left the blog last time after selling Harry to the two Israelis and finding a hostel to stay in around Perth. Now after living in Harry, and at Jan’s house, for a number of months we have not needed to use the back packs, so as we tried to pack all our things up we soon realised that we had accumulated a lot of extra things. We waved off Harry and whilst carrying our big bulging backpacks on our backs, our smaller daypacks on our fronts and both carrying plastic bags ... read more

Kuta to Yogyakarta- Merry Nypie day, chilled money brains and my tribute to earplugs We touched down safely in Bali after some worry. Coming into land, it really did look like the pilot had gone short of the runway as we were looking out of the window and there was only sea on either side. It was worrying as we were really low but sure enough the plane hit the tarmac safely and taxied in. Slightly confused, it wasn't until we reached the terminal that we could see that the main runway actually stretches quite far out to sea, hence the thought that we were about to land on water. We headed to the main tourist ghetto of nearby Kuta to recharge our batteries before heading out to explore Indonesia. Its one of those places where ... read more

Paluu tanne viime talvelta tuttuun paikkaan on sujunut jouhevasti. Takalainen urheiluelamakin on jo aloitettu:... read more

Bali Overview Bizare questions and comments are often put to the couple holding hands as we walk down the street. Usually starting with "are you on your honeymoon?" or "honeymoon couple?" To which the reply is obviously "no!" The questioning then takes a bizzare turn as the couple (still holding hands), get asked "are you brother and sister?!" The bizzare tactics of the street sellers doesn't end there, as Fay's favourite usually asks or proposes "some sandals to make your boyfriend stay with you!?" But when the funny exchanges die down and the ever persistant sellers realise that you mean it when you say "no thank you" the exchange can become quite rude and slightly disappointing. The joking, candor and banter with the more friendly vendors like those in Kenya, Sri Lanka and Jamaica are ... read more
