Day 9 Oct 9th Kuta Beach This morning we took off for Kuta Beach . This beach is world renownd for its white sand blue water and great waves. This also means another day of panic and teeth gnashing as we navigate the Balinese “bypass’ on the way up the coast. What the heck. We had our day of R and R. We can’t possibly be like all the other tourists and just lay by the pool or hang out at the puny resort owned beach. Off we go and we got there without incident! This is the Mission Beach of Bali. Scores of resorts and all the Western fast food you can imagine is offered. We wandered along trying to find the best place to camp when we heard a gringo voice. Two guys heard ... read more

Finally arrived in Bali....... After a good flight we landed in Bali at Denpasar airport. Took an hour to get through customs then we arrived at our Hotel Bakungs beach hotel where we will be staying for 5 nights. We have spent the first 2 days walking eating and drinking and more eating. Suhrs spenderede tiden med at lede efter et pokerspil til Langsungs nyerhvervede PSP spil.......-men men,...-de eneste spil man kunne få i Kuta var Fake, but very good copy of course, hehe :-) Nå men team Pølle og Nelle tog en runde i byen ... read more

Kuta Adrian (Aussie guy I met in ubud) had hired a car, so we went for a mooch in the countryside before hitting the legend known as Kuta! As soon as we got there, we were surrounded by so many Australian tourists! It’s like their version of Malaga or something to us! Hit the beach straight away and was sitting mindin my own business when someone walking past stops and stares at me…its only Maximiillien Maximus! The one and only! Haha I have seen this guy so many times on this trip! So spent afternoon catching up and spent about a week together after that. A friend came from England for 2 weeks, so we spent 4days in kuta doing little else but going out at night drinking and sleeping off the hang over by the ... read more

(Day 510 on the road)I think my timing to visit Bali was not quite the best. The main tourist area of Kuta was super-crowded when I was there, mostly by vacationing Australians (some of which are simply amazing on their surf boards), who seemed to have taken over the place. It also didn't help that I arrived late at night - I spent a good two hours looking for a place to crash, checking more than thirty hotels, guesthouses and homestays. All full, crazy! Just as I was thinking I would have to spend the night at the beach I found a hotel that had exactly one overpriced room left. With a couple standing in line behind me also looking for a room, I decided to take it. The next morning I was up at six ... read more

We had another early flight, and had to spend 3 hours in the airport to get there. When we got to our room and after the Mandarin it was a bit of a shock of the state of the room. You may think we have become snobs of hotels but the bathroom was outside so was exposed to all the elements.. After begging and pleading to jen and Vik they allowed us to stay in there family room which was a 1 up and 1 down. We decided to go to the beach, it was possibly the dirtiest beaches I have seen and was surrounded with Aussie surfers. Bye bye phi phi!! The waves were perfect for surfing but if you wanted to relax and swim you had no chance. We werver covered with leaves so ... read more
