Edit Blog Post
I know it has been a while since our last blog. We have been so busy doing so many things and as well Niki has been a little sick. She is on antibiotics now so all is good. Where to start...
Well our first day in Indonesia we flew into Bundung. It was a crazy city. Our taxi could barley drive through the streets. After we got our hostel figured out we thought that we should go to the train station to buy some tickets for the next day to go to Yogyakarta. When we arrived at the train station we found that we either had to leave in 2 hours our stay for 3 days. 3 days would have been a waste so we packed up our stuff and took a long 9 hour train ride to Yogyakarta. It was such a long train ride because it was hot and the lady beside us with the fan control somehow was cold and would not let us turn on the fan. I think we lost some weight on that trip sweating our butts off.
We stayed in Yogyakarta for 4 days. The first day we just chilled
Poo Coffee
1st a cat like animal eats the friut of the coffee bean and then poo's it out. Then the bean is used for this amazing tasting coffe out and at night we went to a massive Hindu temple and got to see a traditional Javanese dance with the temple as the backdrop. It was beautiful but I am not to sure how into the dance we were. The next day we just took a break and then the next day we went to see the largest Buddhist temple in the world, Borobudur. It was a so beautiful we left at 5 in the morning to go see it so we got to see a bit of the sunrise while we were there. I can't wait to put up the pictures for you to all see. We loved this city so much. the only down fall was the fact that Niki got attacked by bed buggs pretty bad but other then that we loved this place.
From Yogyakarta we went to solo to do a hike in a near by city. The first night we did not need a room because we would start the hike at 10 pm and get to the top to see the sun rise at 6 30 am. Debbie did not come with us so we had a place to store
our bags. To get to the town where the hike was we took a public bus from about sea level up to a small town were we caught a smaller mini bus to base camp about 2000m above sea level. The mountain was called Mt. Lawu and it was a devil of a mountain. When we got to the base camp we found out that we were ill prepared. Kalee and I had our sandals. I had my yoga paints snowboarding socks with sandals, a long sleeve and a sheet. Kalee was the worst off he had a small pair of socks, shorts and a wind jacket. Jeff of course had runners, a long sleeve and a wind breaker. Any ways it was 5 degrees when we got to base camp and we found ourselves surrounded by very prepared people with tents and full hiking boots and bags. But we were sure the good old lonely plant would never lie to us and it said it was the easiest hike on java. Piece of cake right. wrong.
First off the trail was not sandal material and it was not a steady slope it was straight up hill the
entire time. We hiked for about 3 hours with just a few small brakes and then we really started to get tired. I am sure hiking in the dark and in the middle of the night did not help our fatigue, but we manged to pull through for another 30 mins or so. With about an hours left to the top Niki started to get very dizzy and was vomiting. We were not to sure if was pure exhaustion our altitude sickness. The top was 3250m so maybe the whole day was to high for her. Either way we could not go on any further. It was freezing and we need to find a place to hide from the wind. We found a small shelter and swept the garbage away with our feet and then tried to start a fire with the worst lighter around. There was not many twigs or wood at the point in the mountain so the fire was a no go. So plan B. Survival mode. We put some grass down on the dirt and huddled together. The three of us to try to stay warm. It was not that warm but warmer then just standing
there. So there we were the three of us cuddle up together for about 3 hours. Jeff was in the middle, lucky guy. At about 6 we got up and when to find a good place to watch the sunrise. This part of the trip was the only good part. We got lots of good pictures and it was warmer for the 3 hour hike down. After we got to solo we decided to sleep for a day straight and then move on to Bromo.
We did a sunrise tour in Bromo as well. We had to be awake at 4 to make it up to the top of the mountain by sunrise, we took a old Landcruiser. There were tons of people there but it was beautiful. After the sunrise we went to the volcano and walked to the top and looked in. There was steam and smoke coming from the middle. Niki could not walk up to see it as she was still to sick to climb again. After Bromo we went by bus and boat to Bali. Our first stop was Kuta, nice waves and very busy. We surfed and party pretty hard and just
had an all around good time. We all got really unburnt the 1st day so we could not enjoy the beach to the fullest. Today we went to Sanur and are staying here for a few days. It is more chilled out then Kuta. All in all good times.
In Indo the food has been great, Jeff is addicted to one Indo dish, ordering at least two meals a day. The coffee over here is so strong. It is eaten by an animal first and then when the animal poops it out they use the bean to make the coffee. It is very good .
Until next time, we miss you guys........
