Niimpa luonnollisesti menimme vaihtamaan heidan kanssaan pari sanaa. Sovimme, etta illallistaisimme yhdessa ja illalla sitten suuntasimmekin Kallen kanssa takaisin tuohon herkullisen ruuan ravintolaan. Saimme heilta hyvia neuvoja Nepalia varten. Oli muutenkin mukava jakaa... read more

Tanaan paristelimme mopolla ympari Diun saarta. Saimme kummatkin tayttaa kahdet monivaiheiset paperit kirjautuessamme sisaan. Han koko ajan neuvoi, mita tulee mihink... read more

Halusimme menna myos vahan eri reitteja, mita yleensa reissaajat koluavat. Hupaisaa on miten samoihin ihmisiin tormaa jatkuvasti tietyissa "turismi"kaupungeissa. Lahdimme Udaipurista hyvin aikaisin 6 jalkeen ja nautiskelin suuresti aamu... read more

The tour has now finished, and the group disbanded, it feels weird having spent such a long time with them to no longer have them right there. Despite this I have managed to sort myself a plan for the last few weeks, which i am currently extremely happy with. I guess I'd better recount my tales of the last part of my tour. I must first recount an event which happened before my last blog which i forgot to mention. Anna, Roberta and I were walking to the ATM in the hot hot sunshine. I decide it is time to apply the keep me white cream and so pause to apply. Then as i bend to cream up my ankles a man cycles past. turns to look, turns back, double takes, looks away, turns for one ... read more

Leaving Diu was no easy task. First of all, we had made some very good friends, Anne and Cesar, that we had become quite attached to. Second of all, its just so damn nice there! But the pull of seeing new things is very strong and we managed to leave the sedated easy going grip of this little slice of Portugal in India on the most Indian form of transport; The sleeper bus. These are buses that have, above the usual seat level, crumb-filled little cubicles with matresses where you are meant to sleep during the long hours that bus journeys in India are known for. Of course sleeping is no easy task, being bounced around like a pin ball is not exactly condusive to sleep but it sure beats being in a seat. Verdict: ... read more

Fresh out of the Aravali Hospital, Jenny and I decided to head South to the little visited state of Gujarat. If you've never heard of this place (Guja-what?) then here's a crash course on everything there is to know about it: -Its Gandhi's birthplace -booze is illegal -the last name Patel comes from here -its the state below Rajasthan -everybody's got an uncle in Toronto Our first stop was Ahmedabad, which is the economic centre of Gujarat. We had heard some dreadful comments from other travellers who had been there but our time there turned out to be quite fun. There are no amazing sights in Ahmedabad but for such a huge metropolis people are very friendly, laid back, and very much unaccustomed to seeing foreign tourists which is an appealing feature after having spent a ... read more

What a week I have had. I have trekked many kilometres over the Gujarat state as we made our way to the marriage in Vadodara (Baroda). Many experiences and much exhaustion I have acquired. Most recently I have been the victim of theft unknowingly. All my money and credit cards stolen without me knowing in a place that one would least likely find a thief in my thoughts anyway. But this is India and when you have hundreds and hundreds of people at a wedding who really knows who is who? It could have been when well dressed Indian ladies crowded me demanding photos with me, it could have been while having bag over shoulder walking and mingling through the reception? This has now brought my journey to a holt and my return to Australia as ... read more

We are now sat in Udaipur having just spent a couple of days in Ahmedabad, the capital of the Gujarat region. As we have reached the halfway point of our time in India, and as we have had a relatively quiet couple of days, we thought we would try to describe some of our thoughts on the everyday India that we have experienced. This is kind of our 'exhale' after the 'deep breath' of landing in India! We'd read lots about what to expect here, but we don't think anything can fully prepare you for the utter chaos that is this country. Streets/Roads People in Europe will say that the roundabout in Paris around the Arc-de-Triumphe is as crazy as roads can get. EVERY road here is like that, with added; cows, goats, dogs, pigs, chickens, ... read more
