Days 7-10 Well it has been a while since we could write anything. Price of internet in the last hotel was v.expensive! Anyway probably going to miss bits out, it was a while ago now. General activities in Goa, swimming, sunbathing, booking hotels and trains, and eating lots of good food! Goa's beaches are beautiful, however the women selling jewellery etc ruin it, you end up having to run off the beach to avoid being swarmed. The hotel we stayed in was deserted, only an English couple, us and Indian families on an off season package. We had an organised tour round Old Goa. We saw St. Francis of Assiss in his coffin, and a temple built in the style of a portuguese church. Panaji (the capital), and a boat ride down a river, with portuguese ... read more

Pics have now been added... ENJOY! _____ Okay folks... we hate to do it to you, but we're going to have to post this entry sans pictures for now... we've already had the text written for days, and have failed tremendously to find a computer that can handle the file uploading for the pictures... unfortunately, this removes almost all of the fun from the entry, and it will no doubt frustrate the likes of Lee, Nathan, Brendan and Ken, who's frequent cries of "I'm only reading the articles!" will be more truthful this time, but serve less function of intent for once! Hope you enjoy the text... we'll keep working on pictures...! _____ We have now experienced a week in India. A week of lows and a week of highs--we are starting to see their is ... read more

After waiting for a bus from Palolem beach to Margoa for over an hour (in the heat I might add) we decided to change tact and give in to the lure of the nice friendly taxi man, 800 rupees from Palolem to Panaji, a steal in my book. While travelling on the road we did pass an overturned bus....so maybe the taxi was a good idea after all. The road trip was a great way to see Goa, lots of little villages, lush greenery, and the odd cow blocking the road now and then. Just hope it remains that way and theres not some high rise tourist apartments here in a few years instead!! When we did get to Panaji (1 hour 40 minutes) the driver refused to let us out of the cab until he ... read more

So, here I am in Anjuna, after spending a day already in Panaji little town, Goa will be for me only relaxing days, doing...well... nothing at all. I just finished the kite runner book, and wants to get on Ghandi's autobiography, keep it cool by the beach, with a banana shake on one hand, and a cigarette on the other. That's my plan and I intend to stick to that...lazy me, that is not going to be very difficult.... read more

Thanks to our host in Humpi, we managed to obtain two tickets to Goa on next Monday. This means, we would be able to spend the weekend in Humpi. Cycling made easy for us to visit many places in Humpi and exploring the area thoroughly within a short period of time. Regardless of being isolated from the other major destinations, Humpi was in fact a nice place to relax. So far Humpi remains the most visited place by us in India. Last night sleep was very short of us. We had to get up early to catch the first bus to Hospet. Our train was due to arrive at Hospet Junction at around 8.30pm, which would be in Vasco-de-gama station at 3.30pm in Goa. The bus left Humpi before the sunrise. Hospet was still sleeping town ... read more

I have left the beaches of Goa and are now in their capital called Panajim, it is a nice old city with left over bildings of when the Portugues rulled here from the 1500-1961!!!! thats some time, they are also all Catholic, so you get to see lots of signs praising Christ and the rest ofthe gang. My hotel manager is a Roman catholic and was telling me all about how the they need strong sanctions of Birth conrol not just in the state of Goa, but in all India, which was surprisingly refreshing. i have visited the old capital old Goa, which had lot of Churches, and even got to see the remains of st Francis xaviour...all very exciting. The most exciting thing was the local bus trip there, there are no rules on the ... read more

Old Goa, appropriately enough, is the old capital of Goa, and situated just 9km from the new capital of Panaji. I'd heard it was worth checking out, so gave myself a night there to see the sights. After 3 buses to Panaji (and another 1 to Old Goa) I arrived with only about 45 mins to check out all the sights. So hammering it around on foot, I managed to see most of what there was to see, which consisted mainly of old churches in various states of ruin. The highlight would have been the Basilica of Bom Jesus which contains the incorruptible body of Saint Francis Xavier, which is basically some dead dude's body that won't decay (though bits of it have been ripped off it and stolen). Unfortunately, it's not possible to see ... read more

Hi everyone, It's been a while and I've missed you. A persistent tummy bug has kept me from being anywhere near the frame of mind needed for writing, or sitting or walking for that matter. I am back now and ready for some literary action! I'll spare you the details of my past week but if you like, you can imagine an unending expanse of perfect sand flanked by coconut groves and the warm Arabian Sea. Then, one hundred paces away, beind the coconut grove, imagine a beautiful airy guesthouse painted white, trimmed with blue. Take a look at the second balcony from the right, the one with the clothesline drying bikinis and summer dresses. If you really strain your eyes you'll see two ridiculous free-standing mosquito nets, loved desperately by their owners, and some discarded ... read more

Ahoy everyone! Well, here we are back in Panaji (Panjim) for Carnival, to take a break from the exhausting and fast paced beach life, and to stay with the family of some new friends. Martha and Janet befriended us last time we were here, and invited us to stay in their extra room with their family the next time we were in town. So, we arrived on their doorstep yesterday, with Carlie feeling a bit unwell and were welcomed with open arms. Carlieā€™s been fighting a tummy bug now for about a week or more, and the taxi ride from Arambol was a bit rougher than usual as a result. The good news is that she is on the mend with the help of some antibiotics and should be running marathons again by tomorrow. So, what ... read more

So i guess you guys were wondering are they ever going to do anything over than sit on the beach in Goa - well the good news is yes we did! Today we went to the capital of Goa Panaji, even caught a public bus there - check us out! The buses are actually ok, no goats on the top weeing down the window as someone told me was the case! Only worrying thing is the door at the back of the bus stays open, so when the bus is full people are literally stood on the outside of the bus! Me and Michelle were ok though, she got the Ladies seat and i got the seat for the physically challeneged!! So got to Panaji and did a one hour walk tour that was in our ... read more
