So we finished up our time in Bombay. Said goodbye to friends ( it is amazing the real connections you make with people in such a short time here). I found a wonderful shop which I will go back to in March and buy many cloths and things to import. I already did a little shopping even though I told myself I should wait. And now I'm paying for it as each little thing makes my bag heavier. We took a 12 hr. train ride south to Goa yesterday. I met a nice Indian family who insisted I sit with them, and that they feed me their home cooked food - fish, chickpeas, and chapati (a tortilla like bread). It was a long journey, and getting late, so we hopped off early in Panjim, the capital ... read more

Beurk. Mon appétit a totalement disparu.

Bry speaking: After chilling on the beach for a week we both felt like complete tourists and had a need to balance with at least a little culture. So, we hopped on a couple of local busses for the two hour trip to Panaji. Georgeous old Potuguese buildings, most in a sorrowful state. We popped into the Museum, we were almost the only ones there. The exhibits were just out on tables and you could touch pretty well anything; not particularly secure but great to be able to get close to the sculptures, etc. We had a look round a few of the many churches in Old Goa, but being as neither of us has even a smidgen of Christian faith nor an appreciation of Christian art I imagine a lot of it went completely over ... read more

Merry Merry Christmas everybody! Oh how I wish i could give you all hugs today so instead you have to just imagine a big big squeeze from me ok? The subject is no lie. I officially got attacked by a santa clause in the Goa airport today. worst of all it was a santa with a white faced mask on, so he basically looked like a clown and he cornered me to shake hands and well, i am just a little scared of people in masks cornering me. another scene successfully caused. yikes. goa was so fantastically different from this city i am back in it is more than a bit depressing that the course wasnt offered there...what were they thinking? palm trees, white sand, dancing til morning, fresh fish and prawn, friendly people, old friends ... read more

Hi all, Udaipur is one of the loveliest towns we have been to. It surrounds a gorgeous lake with a palace in the middle (where Octopussy was filmed). Our first hotel was very cute near the water but there was definately electric current running through the shower taps ( the manager reckoned it was something to do with having too short fingernails) so we moved to a safer but less atmospheric place. Other than that, we saw another palace, motorbiked around a bit and had some good meals. We then caught another BO bus 7hrs to the next town with an airport to fly Air Deccan to Goa. We booked the tickets the day before the flight and had never heard of the airline so looked on the web to find it rated worlds worst airline ... read more

Spent a couple of days on the beach in Goa, relaxing and trying to swat up on my 'teach yourself hindi'. Then met a fellow traveller heading in the same direction to Hampi in Karnataka. So, after meeting at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Panaji on Tuesday, took a bumpy bus ride to Margao (pics of amazing indoor market), south Goa's busiest city, from which we caught the train (9hrs!) to Hospet, Karnataka. ... read more

Some things always seem to run like clock work over here, trains for the most part are on time, given the sheer volume of people this is no small achievement. Another regularity are the constant power cuts and blackouts which place most, in fact all places we have been so far, outside Mumbai, in a perpetual wave of power on, power off. Panjim the capital of Goa is one of these places. It’s funny what becomes familiar when you are so far from home, both Mel and I have become very attached to the constant whir of the Air Conditioners (AC), so when our familiar friend decided to stop whirring, we knew it must be close to nine in the morning. Awake now, we decided to order breakfast. One of the great things about traveling is ... read more

Ring, ring, am I dreaming, no it’s the phone, who on earth knows were here, let alone ring us at 5.15 am…. The front desk of course and the beautiful people who had looked after both of their sick guest’s had in with much Indian love remembered that we were catching the Mandovi express to Goa, which departed at 7.05am, so best be at the station at 6.30 as like everywhere else its also chaos. For those of you who live on the east coast or any major city for that fact you would understand the daily pilgrimage of commuters traveling into the city for work. Which is all well and good, but 15000 Indian’s, Kashmir’s, Pakistanis, I’m sure there were a few Afghans, with a generous sprinkling of people from countries like Nepal and Tibet, ... read more

Got up at the crack dawn for our train to Goa. A/C was fully booked so we opted for a second class sleeper carriage. Couldn't be that bad? There are 6 berths, 3 on either side. We had the top two, up in the Gods. We were up too high to sit up straight and there were ceiling fans between the top berths meaning we couldn't lean over. And it was hot!!! There was a constant stream of chai (tea) and food wallahs parading up and down the train selling a variety of snacks, shouting all of the time. It was also late so we spent happy 15 hours travelling 500ish Km. What do you expect for 4 GBP? We vowed to book further in advance for the return journey! Hadn't booked any accomodation for our ... read more
