I want to talk about a big part of myself that many of you don’t know a lot about. Her name is Maggie. Haha, the reason you don’t know a lot about Maggz is because she’s a great listener and does not feel comfortable talking about herself. You’ll never hear her boast about anything because she is too humble. For my friends or family who’ve met Maggie for the first time, they would have an amazing talk with her right off the bat. Then they realize that they revealed everything about themselves and didn’t learn anything about her, but somehow, the two of them made a genuine connection. She honestly loves to listen which is a gift because too many people in this world don’t listen in a conversation, they’re just waiting for their turn ... read more

Oh man... I just experienced some true India. I decided to take a train up north to the state Goa. It was those night trains that take 14 hours to get to the place. I spoiled myself by buying some 'first class' tickets on the train. I was half expecting the rooms to be like clean and have a nice window. Hahaha, so wrong, Vic, so wrong. The only space I had was the size of an upper bunk bed with a curtain! Such a cramped space for such a long ride. Then it started pouring so hard (finally) and it created a huge flood, blocking our path halfway. So we waited for an hour, then 2 hours... then 3 hours then 5 hours, then 7 hours!! I am so happy I'm not claustrophobic (fear of ... read more

I can remember that all my schoolbooks still showed Goa as Portuguese when I was at school - they hadn't caught up with the 1961 Indian takeover. I'm staying in Fontainhas, one of the oldest parts of Panjim, which is the capital of Goa State and it still seems quite European in appearance. It is sometimes known as Goa's Latin Quarter. Most of the food is Indian in style but with lots of influence from the Portuguese which means that this is the only part of India where pork can be quite a speciality. I was hoping that some restaurants mght serve steak, but no luck so far. They do have a nice drink here called Fenny or Feni which is made either from coconuts or from cashew nuts. Cashew nuts are something of a Goan ... read more

We had to make a stop in Mumbai on our way south to Goa. We just spent one night here before heading off as we fly home from Mumbai so will be returning to do some sightseeing. We had some problems finding affordable accomodation, one place we looked had about 30 beds crammed into a dark grubby room with half naked, sweaty Indian men lying on them. No thanks! We did eventually find somewhere that was acceptable. The area we were staying in reminded us a lot of London. Many of the bulidings here were built by the British during their rule and the wonderful architecture of the old train station, the busiest in Asia, particularly reminded us of home. We spent our day just wandering around and we found a Macdonalds which we just couldn't ... read more

So one week into my travels and it feels like I've been here for ages! Took a tour yesterday to Dhudsagar waterfalls in the National park in the east of Goa ( the name of the park escapes me now!) It was a 2 hour drive in a wee bus( thank god for air con!) followed by a very bumpy 8 km jeep ride through the Jungle and rivers, listening to the guide telling us about the termites, small snakes, spiders that make their webs between the trees and eat birds , leeches and other delightful creatures that live in the jungle! But the best bit was seeing all the Monkeys and being able to feed the Makack (sp?) monkeys. Although there are signs everywhere telling you not to feed them you can buy fruit with ... read more

The night before we left Palolem Beach, we decided to treat ourselves to an ayurvedic massage. Not really knowing much about it, we just ordered the full body massage, that focuses on our back, neck and legs, or so we thought. Joe started first while I ran to our hut to change into my bikini, when I came back, all I could see was Joe, lying on his front with his bare ass being massaged by a big fat Indian man and Joe's face of horror!!!! I nearly died of laughter but it was my turn to begin. Good thing I had a woman doing my massage. So a full body really means FULL BODY!!! It felt really good afterwards!! The next day we headed to Panaji, the capitol of Goa, for some more R & ... read more

Well we left mumbai in a whirl of craziness (as the norm there!) - last night there we took a "romantic stroll" down marine drive (as described in the guide book) - we only lasted about 30secs before getting a cab as children and their parents were letting off fireworks all the way down - health and safety is not big here! Took early morning train to goa - our names did not appear on the list for the train reservations but we got on any way and it worked out fine... 14 hours on a train was not all bad in the end. A little Indian girl practised her English on us asking if we liked it here and "what was the difference with england". We went straight to Benaulim beach from Margao train station ... read more

Well we finally made it out of Baga, but not before we were harrassed mercilessly on the beach, in the bar, in the street and some guy even hovered outside our hotel (we think he was exposing himself in the bushes). Generally we didnt do much there and couldnt face the prospect of going to teh seedy bars and just ended up staying in for the two nights we were there. Unfortunately i woke up to find i had been abised by mosquitos in the night and had 39 bites all over my body but in practically a full sleeve up my arm which swelled up in red welts. Not pretty. That was pretty much the last straw for us as we had been having a shit time in Baga. The beaches are dirty, the sea ... read more

What will follow, in summary: Thursday 7th - Depart Udaipur Friday 8th - Arrive Mumbai Saturady 9th - Depart Mumbai Sunday 10th - Arrive Goa (Eventually!) So a trip between cities doesn’t really merit a posting, but if you have nothing better to do, you might want to have a wee laugh at how bad a day this turned out to be! The story We left Udaipur at 10pm on Thursday 7th aboard the 3tier sleeper train, all set for our 17 hour train ride down to Mumbai. The overnight part of our journey was made easy due to our long walk earlier that day in Udaipur; we slept like lambs! We actually managed to sleep right through until about 7am. I would like to think we awoke naturally, but I have a sneaking suspicion it ... read more

Namaste! 53 hours, 4 flights, 4 different airlines and one broken plane later Holly and I made it to Bombay! Unfortunately...our bags weren't so lucky... Having been in 4 different countries over the past 2 days our bags could be literally anywhere! We filled out a lost baggage form with Sri lankan Airways and set off bewildered into the Jungle of taxi wallah's where we started the never-ending game of no thankyou. Despite promises to call us and keep us informed of any updates we heard nothing for the next few days untill saturday morning we recieved a phone call informing us that the bags had in fact arrived in Chenni and when would we be collecting them! I explained AGAIN that we were in Mumbai not Chenni. (32hrs train ride away) We were promised that ... read more
