Ayer tuve dia libre.

On our second visit to the Expo on Saturday, June 12th, we entered near the China Pavillion. It's hard to explain how massive this pavillion is compared to others. In the pictures, look for people at the base and you will get an idea. After entering, we walked around looking at the exteriors of the pavillions. The lines were all very long, so we sat to decide where to go and a young Chinese man came up to us and gave us 2 "fast pass" tickets for the Taiwan Pavillion! We had about 45 minutes to wait to use them, so we walked around the area a liitle more before returning. We still waited in line for close to an hour, but it was worth it. The Taiwan Pavillion has a large Sphere Theater inside of ... read more

On our previous visits to China, the riverside Promenade area of the Bund in Shanghai was completely blocked off due to construction. The construction has now been completed, so we decided to visit again and had a gorgeous day. We had made reservations for a dinner cruise on a big, fancy, "Dragon Boat." We were dropped off late in the morning on June 5th, supposedly near the cruise boat office so we could pay for our tickets. Well, we couldn't find the office, asked a few people for help, the Chinese pointed, so we headed in that direction and still found nothing. The other English speaking people we found knew no more than we did. We finally decided to head the opposite direction where we could get some lunch. We enjoyed walking along the river, all ... read more

Prometo ... read more

On Thursday, June 3rd, we went to the Shanghai World Expo for the first time. I don't recall seeing anywhere exactly how much area it covers, but it is big! There are 5 main areas, and we chose to start in area C, which has the Americas, Africa and Europe. After purchasing our tickets and getting through security, we just wandered a little to get an idea of what was around where we were. Neither one of us felt like standing in any lines for hours, so we only went in the pavillions with short or no lines. We were both just enjoying looking at the outsides of the pavillions from a distance, then getting up close to see what they were actually made of. The one we both enjoyed the outside of best was the ... read more

I visited the Pudong side of the Shanghai Expo today. It was unbelievably crowded and most of the pavilions had a 2-4 hour wait, so I didn't even bother going inside. I did visit the Pacific Islands joint pavilion, the Africa joint pavilion, and the Cuba pavilion though. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves, but I will say that I walked away from the Expo after 4 hours exhausted and knowing two things - I like Cuban rum and I have got to visit Cuba. I took photos of the outside of the pavilions. Hope you enjoy them.... read more

...like we decided, our last day of the expo we visited the rest of the Best Urban Practices area, again being very comfortable to visit compared to the crowds on the other side of the river and again, giving us a lot of good stuff! I was amazed by all the different info I got served here literally "in the face": 80 projects from around the world that demonstrate innovative solutions to urban issues, such as water treatment, energy conservation, transport, social interaction, and bring residents into closer contact with nature. To say again, both zone D and zone E are mostly set inside the area that has four factories that once belonged to Jiangnan Shipyard and Nanshi Power Plant. They have been renovated and converted into pavilions for the Expo. Afterwards, they will be converted ... read more

The Pudong Expo Area on a second day we gave it a try, with high hopes to wait in lines as little as possible and to see as much as possible... Discussing how much time we are actually ready to wait for a single pavillion, while some of them really have queues of 3h waiting time ( China, Japan, Malaysia, Korea, Saudi Arabia pavillion ...), Emi was approached by a woman, asking her if she could pose for her, cause she's looking for most fashionably dressed visitors of the Expo for some chinese fashion magazine. So, we have one fasionable person with us! =) This side of the river is much more crowded than the Puxi site and here's where the real crowds are. Here are some photos from different parts of Shanghai. We visited the Pearl Tower, the Buddhist Temple, a couple of gardens, and had dinner with a few NC State alumni who now live in China. We then toured the World Expo; a giant world's fair in which many countries show off their new technologies and culture. ... read more
