Es gab zwei Fahrtage, beide lang mit 450 und 370 Km. Obwohl wir den ersten Tag auf der Autobahn fuhren, waren wir alle dem Tode nahe. Über 40 Grad. Man konnte das Visier nicht aufmachen, die Luft war zu heiß. Außerdem langer Stau in den Aussenbezirken von Peking. Im Hotel gab's interessante Speisen, zum Abendessen gab's knusprige Schlangenhaut und zum Frühstück"earthworm", das sind Regenwürmer. Der nächste Tag war besser, obwohl wir wieder auf Landstraßen waren. Aber es war nicht so starker Verkehr, die Straßen waren gut ausgebaut und nur selten waren überraschend Pferdefuhrwerke unterwegs oder es kam mir ein Geisterfahrer entgegen. Also ganz normale chinesische Verhältnisse. Penglai liegt am Meer und hat einen befestigten Hafen und zahlreiche Tempel zu Ehren der Meeresgöttin und ihrer Gefolgsleute. I always stock up on beans because they can make a quick and easy meal and the only recognizable beans I've seen since I got here are aduki beans and let's face it, I'm just too tired to spend a lot of time soaking and boiling them, so canned beans it is. My friends were determined to get their Christmas shopping done today and then immediately pack it all up and ship it off, which by the way, isn't cheap. They brought a bunch of stuff with them and then we hit the Small Commodities Market, where they proceeded to buy a bunch more stuff to ship back home. My friend stopped in at one of the local shops and the clerk gave her a plastic card with raised numbers. It's so mysterious. What is the card for? Why are the numbers raised? Why does it look so official? Alas, we may never know the answers to these questions (unless my friend returns with the card in hand with someone to interpret for her to find out the purpose of said mystery card.)... read more
