Ok, I know i have been really bad at updating this journal. I have been trying to come up with so many excuses, I got seriously eaten by a Great White, mauled by a lion, kidnapped by a thousand South African belly dancers and forced into slavery. Then i though so what if i hadn't updated it yet....I am in Africa, andtherfore working in African time...it'll get done...EVENTUALLY There is something about this continent that has my heart racing. Admitedly I have only been to 3 countries here, Egypt, Kenya and now here South Africa. From the moment i my feet hit the tarmac of the airport i had already fallen in love with this place. Ok...so Cape Town is the jewel of South Africa, or so i am reliably informed. It's true...this city is vibrant ... read more

We have been playing a fair amount of golf at the mashi course at the River club across the river. It has yielded some trials and tribulations for many of us young and upcoming world golfers. For instance, in one of our first classic battles. Troy the Boy Danforth managed to miss a two foot putt on the eighteenth to take it to over time. Where once again he predictably crumbled under the incessant pressure from Adam and myself. The wind has also been a major factor in the story of the legendary battles that have taken place here between golfers such as 'big hitter' David Bowman, "putting sucks" Danforth, "I don't even know why I play golf" Michael Joseph, "i just hope i make it to the women's tea box"Adam London, "if only it was ... read more

We all piled into Tracy's kombi one sunny day in lovely South Africa and embarked on our mini tour of Stellenbosch. We arrived at the Bekkersdal winery where we watched a movie about all of that stuff that has do with wine. All that I can remember is that it is good for vines to grow on slopes, not too sure why though?! It is a well put together place with a fantastic break down of all the wines that they produce and market. I think the best thing about it was simply the fact that it was the same place where all Amarula Cream is made. Oh how I love that stuff. It is so fantastic to sit back and sip on some Amarula over ice. Heaven in a bucket. I offered the lady money ... read more

Well other than our harrowing encounter with the guard rail on the N2 Plett was superb. This is what we did. Went to the beach and lay in the sun during the day, went out and drank beers at night. Repeat, repeat, repeat and repeat. Fantastic. It was awesome being there with all of my boys, minus Andrew. Our house was so close to Lookout beach and had a marvelous view of the lagoon as well as the ocean. We got up to some shenanigans as could be expected, some tea bagging and funnels with our beloved Fanie. What a champ. Adam, Dave and myself made some trips to the Deck on the beach and argued over which South African beer is the best, Castle by far. I have to say though, Namibia's Windhoek takes the ... read more

I am alive and well in the beautiful town of Plettenberg Bay. Six intrepid pioneers set off from Pinelands, Cape Town at 5am for our New Years holiday along the east coast. We were about 160 KMs outside of Cape Town going down a hill at 110 km/hr when our back right tyre burst. Ryan pretty much lost control after both left tyres proceeded to blow as well. We went into the oncoming traffic s lane and then slid one way and then the next before cascading into a metal barrier on the side of the road. I honestly thought we were going to roll, I still do not know how we didn't. As this was all happening there was a stunned silence amongst all of us until the car came to rest. If the tyre ... read more

Hello almal I hope everyone one is well. I am fantastic. Cape Town could not be better, even though I am leaving it in about 3 hours for a 3 week safari up north. Cape Town has truly been a fantastic time from what I can piece together. It has been great seeing all the boytjies again. We have certainly hit the clubs and pubs hard since my arrival. And when shots of Jaeger are 75 US cents this spells trouble for anyone in Adam and ours vicinity. I have been staying with my oh pal, Ryan most of the time in Pinelands. What a place Pinelands is, I swear. It has such a tight knit community. Everywhere I go I bump into people who I have not seen in years and the best thing is ... read more

Just a quickie but Adam, myself, Steve and Tammy went for breakfast in Simonstown. It was awesome, I had seared Tuna ontop of some mash with braised veggies(i know it s a bit of a wierd b fast) Simonstown is awesome, saw the statue of Just Nuisance, the navy dog that was adored by all. They even officially made him part of the navy so that he could get free train fare. Because he used to be able to catch the train by himself. Such an amazing dog. We then went to Boulders and some the cape penguins. Really cool actually. It has been a while since I was last there. Adam and I did not want to pay so we jumped the fence, that was pretty exciting. I bought a new pair of polarized sunglasses ... read more

Here are some pictures from the last few weeks. Haven't really been doing much besides enjoying life in beautiful Capetown and doing some touristy things here and there. Beach Hiking Partying with lloyds friends... Eating a lot of really good food Interesting observations and probably some reasons my friend Lloyd is the way he is: They call BBQ's Braais (pronounced Bry) The pronounce Aluminum ALU MINIUM (Alooo Minium) weird) Everyone here has an awesome accent... I really really like South Africa. I wish it were in the USA so I could live here. It's beautiful, the women are amazing, the beaches are white white white, the food is great, and The weather is amazing... Heading to Namibia, Batswana, and Zimbabwe tomorrow for a 3 week overland trip. Can't wait to tell you all about it ... read more

I have had a wonderful week in Cape Town. It was great just to chill out in a comfortable hotel for a few days without having to pitch a tent every day. I stayed at Parliament Hotel in the City Bowl. The hotel was very comfortable, reasonably priced and the staff extremely helpful and friendly. I arrived on a Saturday at lunch time just as everything in Cape Town shuts down for the weekend. The city is like a ghost town at this time and it was a bit eerie particularly as the wind was howling and it was quite cold. But it was a good excuse to do little as I needed the time to chill out, watch TV and write my travel blog. By Tuesday I was ready to explore again so took the ... read more
