Sound familer? So the last couple of days ive been to the V&A waterfront, which so culd be at home, yesterday went to Robben Island where a certain Mr Mandella stayed and today went to a load of townships, quite an eyeopener and nasty beer! Funny stories about Meg in Africa! Chapter 1: My first sailing lesson, February 25 After a short afternoon out on a lake 30 minutes from campus it became obvious that I either lack the McNeill sailing ability or will soon join the success of sailing which is known within my family. Here is a short list in which describes why I think I show potential within the McNeill sailing clan. (this list may not be true for all sailors in my family) 1. I helped sail one of our Hobbie Cats for speedy trip about the lake 2. I capsized twice in the middle of the lake --it adds excitement!— 3. Despite the fact the freshwater lake does not allow me to make it to Bimini, I still have a strong desire to strive sail there. ... read more

South Africa Hi everyone!!! We just recently left South Africa and it was so amazing!! It was my favorite place that we have been to thus far. I fell in love with it so much that I want to move there! Haha we’ll see if that actually happens. The morning that we arrived in Cape Town it was so foggy that we were really delayed at getting into our place at the dock. We had to wait around on the ship for a few hours until it cleared up. The view of Cape Town from the ship was so beautiful Table Mountain was breathtaking. When we finally got off the ship, four of my friends and I were ready to go off on our Baz Bus adventure! We bought these 7-day bus passes to go up ... read more

Well fans..its come to an end. LOL. Anyways, it's been a great trip. Nichole and I are currentlt at CPT Airport catching a flight to Jo'Burg, then London, then LA. I'll be home in about 25 hours!! Quick update. Yesterday as our last official day in CPT was a mixed bag. It was the rainest and coldest day we had. We tried to wake up early to make it to Robben Island -but we were hung over...lol. BTW, we had fun on Sunday night. We actually didn't know where to go and ended up in Kamps Bay at some place called Le Mar -too bad it was all European tourists and Afrikaneers -meaning mostly disco-y house-y stuff. Let's just say we drank a lot. We then went back to Jo'Burg where we ran into our cabbie. ... read more

We last left you in Cape St. Francis on one of the southern peninsulas of S. Africa....and a beautiful little beach. From there we entered the Garden Route, a stretch of the coast that runs east from Mossel Bay all the way to Port Elizabeth, along the N2 highway. From Cape St. Francis it was a short drive (compared with our 6-hour marathons in the northern Free State) to Tsitsikamma National Park and the Storms River Mouth. We stayed in a backpackers hostel, Rainbow Lodge -- a Baz Bus stop -- in Storms River Village (not to be confused with S.R. Mouth), approximately 15 km from the National Park gate. It costs a whopping 40 Rand per person to enter for the day, so staying overnight in the park wasn't an option for us....especially since we ... read more

So it's Sunday morning here -we just went to church (ok we only stayed for about 20 minutes) and had lunch. And since Friday night we've basically been tourist. Here's a recap: Friday we headed out to Long Street (it was Nichole, myself, and Sharon aka Dead Weight). Long Street is kinda Sunsetish in the sense that its this one street with all these clubs and you walk up and down. It was a lot fo fun. We ended up at this place called Jo'Burg where they played stuff we used to listen to from like 6th to 9th grade (93-97). So all the dancing you wanted to do when you were too young to club we did!! People here are funny...and the lines are hilarious. Here are some: "You are my size." "I'll take you ... read more

So this entry is being written not about my travels or classes but about Cape Town in general. For starters the power is out in the city (or parts of it including Rondebosch where I am) for the 4th time in 3 days. (as of Tuesday) Cape Town is said to be one of the most “westernized cities in Africa” which is one reason why I am here. However, for being one of the largest cities in Africa I would have suspected that the power here would be more reliable. Sunday the power was out not only in Cape Town but the entire Western Cape (basically the entire Western Cost). I thought I would stop by the Catholic Church and wait between services (little did I know that 9 was there last morning service when I ... read more

It's been a busy two days and no longer as melancholy. As a caveat -this will probably be longer than usual because I have two days to cover Yesterday was a first day of filming. While our CPT make-up/wardrobe did a lot of work for us, there was still a lot of little things for us to find. So we split up and it kinda felt like a mission -we had to get all these things and had no idea what we were doing. But of course Nichole and I did the damn thing -and our lazy selves decided to hire a taxi while we went around time. The higlight of our trip revolved around two things -the indoor mall with our three favorite spots: Woolworth's (Target/K-mart), Pic-n-Pay (food), and Click's (Long's) and the Chinaman store ... read more
