Sunday 11th December 2005 Up early 7.30am, breakfast in hotel, then out. We took train from Kings Cross to Martin Place, walked through the city with its high rise blocks of tinted glass, concrete and stainless steel. Walked down to the harbour front and around the key to the Opera House. We did the usual tourist things taking photo's of ourselves in front of the Opera House, walked up the banks of steps onto the podium. Up close, the glistening shells are covered in cream and off white glazed tiles, which have been set out in a chevron pattern. David had been to the Opera House before, but I decided to do a tour of the inside so booked myself on the 1pm guided tour. The guided tour would take in the inside including the performance ... read more

Wednesday 9th December 2005 Gday Folks!! There you go!! getting Australianised already. "Just a quick word about photo's before I move on. It seems that the internet places do not like you loading photo's on their equipment, so I may need to load these on later to the individual journals when we get back to David's brothers place on his p.c. Apologies for this in advance but I promise later I will have them added." We got up early on Wednesday morning and after a light breakfast we that is David, Bobbi and me, headed out driven by David this time towards Perth airport Domestic Terminal to catch the flight to Sydney. As we were early, David decided to take a look at where the family used to live so we drove around his boyhood haunts, ... read more

Hi Folks, Sorry about the delay in getting journals onto this site, the site was down for maintenance we think!! Never mind here we are and after two fantastic flights from Heathrow to Singapore and Singapore to Perth we arrived on time and frantically excited. The first flight seemed very quick, we had a good journey and sat next to an elderly lady Irene from Birmingham who was off to New Zealand visiting her daughter this is the 13th time she has done so and was quite a seasoned traveller on Singapore airlines. I saw 3 films on the flight, Wallace and Gromitt and the Were Rabbit, Sky High and Skeleton key all thoroughly good entertainment and kept me amused. Actually managed to get some sleep as well so that was good. Arrived in very steamy ... read more

Not much to up date but took a trip to Bondi beach... wicked! Very touristy and very crowded, but lots, and I mean lots of good looking people there. Colin and I bought the Ozzie uniform... some board shorts, very cool ones (mine are Rip Curl) with which they were giving away free Rip Curl thongs (or flip flops for you Brits!), brilliant. We now almost look ready to move to the beach, still missing a tan though, Doh! I took a wee walk down to the opera house to go sit in the sun and work on that tan, was really lovely down there, I sat on my own on the gorgeous gleaming green grass and read my book (The Da Vinci Code, a bit cliche I know, but hey it's good!). The other guys ... read more

Had my job interview at the 25th Floor cocktail bar today which I felt went well and there was no mention of working New Year's Eve. The woman, Suzzy, who interviewed me said that she would get the team leader of the bar to get back to me, so again I am still jobless. I'm not sure about this place though, looks a bit shabby so i went out with a load more CV's to the Darling Harbour area where there are loads of bars where Matt and Chris have recently had trial shifts (Chris actually has a job now and so does Colin). Will keep ya posted on the job front, but it's really annoying me now. Matt celebrated his birthday on Monday night at Scubar after him, Chris and myself polished off a bottle ... read more

In my smartest of threads I headed to ECQ bar for my interview feeling confident to meet the Hotel manager, Sarah. All went very well in my opinion until she asked if was able to work New Year's Eve? So I'm in the biggest city in the world, a place where they have the best New Year's celebrations in the world!!! (other than P&P Didsbury obviously!) ....Of course I don;t want to workd New Year's so i said i would have to give it some serious thought, but would be doubtful?! Ah well, I got a call the next morning to say the weren't able to employ me due to my 3 month working Visa which isn't long enough for them... or is it because I didn't want to work New Year's??????? gutted! I had another ... read more

We walked to the Sydney observatory, which is a large grass hill with a white band stand on the top of it where every couple in Sydney seemed to be getting married! The beautiful Australian sun had made an effort to show it's face today to maximum effect, producing gorgeous 'cloud-less' blue skies. The views from up there were, as you can see, fantasic. There wasn't much else to do other than sit an appreciate both the view and the weather... so that's what we did. We also walked around the area called 'the rocks' which is one of the oldest areas of Sydney so had lot's of little pubs, one of which is one of the oldest in Oz! There was a very quaint little market there too selling a variety of homemade wood work, ... read more

We took a trip to Sydney Aquarium the other day, which was nice as it was OUT OF THE RAIN!!!!! shocking, no-one here in Oz can believe the weather, so when I'm here writing suppossedly making you very all very jealous... it's raining!!! Aquarium was fun though. On way back we went for a walk to the botanical gardens where we hooked up with some chicks.... in the form of some cockatoos.... sorry I couldn't help it! I have had a re-call to the ECQ bar to meet the hotel manager so assuming I don't mess that up I should effectively have a job. Matt and myself are going to the bar where Chris has his first shift tonight to hassle him for cocktails ha ha!!!... read more

Monday was job search day, so we all had to get our CV's shrunk down onto one page as advised by the BUNAC staff. We have the facilities of free internet and general computer services at the BUNAC office in central Sydney, thanks. I was dressed as well as i could be dressed with the limtied clothes I have brought with me and hit the streets of Sydney with a list of awesome bars from worldsbestbars.com. The first place I went to was right in Circular Quay next to the Opera house and looking directly at the Harbour bridge, wow! the bar was well nice inside all white with huge 8ft high windows some of which were just half so the air from the Harbour swept through the bar, very nice. I filled in an application ... read more

A weekend to chill... so naturally being in Oz a beach would be wonderful! We had all heard that a place called Manly was a beautiful beach town, just North of Sydney across the water. Packed my board shorts and headed to the Circular Quay Harbour to jump on a ferry to Manly. The ferry went right around the Opera house and quite close to Harbour bridge, the views were stunning so it was cameras at the ready and super snapping began, sadly this computer doesn't have USB socket though darn it! will upload them soon. We arrived in Manly with lovely sunshine beating down on our highly sun-creamed bodies. The beach was a short walk and looked amazing. I was the only one to venture into the mildy cold sea to do some hard-core body ... read more
